Wow. I go away from the thread for a little while and see what happens? ;)

I wanted to try and keep this focused on the perception of CA being 'out of touch' vs. 'ahead of the curve' with regard to the rest of the country.

Please keep it on topic, or I'll have to line you all up and spank each of you. ;)

The actual % which is debatable is irrelavent. To get hung up on that is trivial and a diversionary tactic so you do not have to address the points I made. We could argue about it all you want but the facts are that the Democratic party who traditionally has the minority vote is or has lost the Mexican American vote.

Please please close your eyes to that face and don't address the problem. Nothing would please me more.

Yeah uh ok. Kerry got over 50%. That does not equal "has lost the Mexican American Vote".

I should remind you, that are the one who picked on my post with trivial insights. And you were incorrect about the hispanic vote with those "facts".

Have the dems lost ground with them? Yes. Did the majority vote Bush? No.

I am aware of the problems with the dems and the minority vote.

Thanks for telling me something I already knew though.

Can we talk about California again now, or are you going to use the thread to make a point about how the dems lost ground with the minority vote for the duration?

Does the fact you're babbling incoherently mean you admit that you started the trivial crap?

That's "mock", not "patronize".

Just so you know Billy, I am not a democrat. I am not driven by party in my posts, unlike you you who has a hard time being objective, because you wear your party on your sleeve.

This is why I avoid all the ridiculous Dems vs. Reps shithole threads in the OT section.

It's all polemics.

By the way, what ARE you talking about, "everything's ok"?

Is something wrong?

Your party is gaining ground with minorities, be happy.

Btw… horrible job of “avoid all the ridiculous Dems vs. Reps shithole threads”… lol… what a crock.

And yes, I am very happy that my party is gaining ground with minorities. Go ahead and explain to the children what is wrong with that… rofl.

You find me one thread other than this one, where I have discussed politics in the past several months. You can't, because I don't. Precisely because they are full of posturing and armchair politicking. Does that mean I don't have opinions or a clue about politics? No, it means I see it as futile to debate with people who are stubborn, immovable edifices when it comes to the subject. It's pointless, as this little debate here shows.

Believe me, had I known that Billy the GOP pit bull was gonna use the thread as a podium to hate on the Dems some more, I would have closed the link.

I was responding to Prokofy's assertion, and along comes Billy to set me straight with "facts". Billy then also uses the opportunity to take a couple swings at the Democratic party.

I correct Billy, because 44% does not constitute an "overwhelming majority".

Billy, who can't be wrong, then turns it on me, and blames me for introducing trivial topics.

WooHoo! Tricky. But not tricky enough.

Children? Whaaa? Wtf are you talking about dude? I don't read minds, so if you could elaborate, I'd really appreciate it. I have not stated there was something wrong with it either way. I simply want the record to be straight as far as this claim about the "overwhelming majority" goes.

Naw. It has nothing to do with wrong or right, to be honest. It has everything to do with combating partisan based misinformation. The difference between what you claimed and where the numbers really are is as big as the Grand Canyon. If we were talking a few percentahge points, THAT would be nitpicking. Pointing out the gross disparity between your claim and reality is not.

Liberalism is like most things...okay in moderation. CA's population and many aspects of the state may not be the ideal liberal environment, but I think it gets it's reputation due to the amount of high-publicity liberal ideas that originate there. (?) Maybe the Rep successes in CA are a backlash against a very outgoing and vocal minority? (Especially celebrity driven crap.) Not to mention that most liberal economic ideas require high taxes, and that's never popular.

But a good general rule to go by is...if an actor/performer is saying it--IT IS WRONG. :D

btw - CA's governors may be mostly Rep, but how often does CA vote R for a president? It's a different game, there. Why the difference?

As a resident of New Jersey, I can say we are still living under a government that think it is 100 years ago under mob rule, and a people who are ignorant apathetic fuckwads who don't know how to drive. We are sadly behind the curve with over 600 school municipalities laided with enormous gobs of management and golden benefits packages making property taxes $5kUS for a reasonably sized house. We are sadly behind the curve in that the Feds have set records for the number of politicians arrested on corruption charges in a single year. Our last governor gave the top Homeland Security job to his lover who had no qualifications, putting our state in grave risk. Our upcoming governor (Corzine) has bought the election out and out. The Republican challenger is a complete cook, but that's what you get when only 250,000 Republicans vote in the primary election. Our Democratic party boss, Norcross, should be deported to a Gulag for the amount of corruption he is involved in. Our cost of living was rated at $15/hour to be able to afford a 1 bedroom apartment, car insurance, and utilities. Car insurance is highest in the nation. Housing prices are ridiculously inflated. We have the KKK capitol of the Northeast in Oxford.

On top of that we have the national problems like illegal immegration, bloated healthcare costs, excessive litigation, high imprisonment rate (Camden was rated #1 least safe city in the US in 2004, yay!), and debt from a lagging economy.

lol! Now this is a good topic!

But hey man, at least Jersey has the lowest gas prices in the country, last I heard! :D

Also you have to distinguish between north and south jersey. Are you in north jersey? I don't live in this imaginary concept of "New Jersey". I live in south jersey (not for much longer, which is mostly a good thing, I hope VA doesn't turn out to be a heap). But the south is much better than the north. Of course, the north is where the money is, so most news you hear about "New Jersey" = North Jersey. :p (Except for Camden, that shithole is an anomaly.) And since most Jersey news is bad news, what can I say? :D hahaha...

I think we're also the "wealthiest state" or some other such rubbish. I believe it's due to all the tightwad assholes up north with more money than they know what to do with (who, so I've been told anyway, inherited it all). Whatever. North Jersey has to be the most economically segregated area in the nation. Some areas are perfect, couldn't be better (or more expensive), and then you have areas that make living in a nuclear waste dump sound fantastic. Newark comes to mind.

An almost equally bad smelling pile of dung that NJ is blessed with is our politicians. What is it? Something like "most corrupt government in the country" comes to mind? "Pay to play" politics? Here you go, here's a donation, Mr. Asshole politican--now that government contract will definitely go to my company's way overpriced services, right??? "Oh, of course!" Our governor is *for real* "selected not elected", and Democrat, I'll add, for those who think the Dems can do no evil.

Honestly, I think something's in the water here...mostly in the north, but something has to be in the water or environment making people stupid. Whatever it is, it also spills into Philly and probably NY. It's the only rational explaination for this. I mean, this IS the chemical capital of the nation, isn't it? How did Sandra Bullock put it in that movie? :p We also have the market cornered on assholes, with the highest asshole to non-asshole ratio in the country, I think. Hell, I'm one of em.

BTW, to whoever said it earlier--how is NJ "ahead of the curve"?

Wow, Billy. Aren't you above this, my friend? It really appears to me that you're just digging your heels in vs. actively listening. As someone who largely shares your worldview, I'm gonna call you on what I see as your "begging the question;" that is, starting your arguments with the premise that you are "right" and using that "rightness" as justification for your arguments. No one enjoys the right to operating within a self-serving circular argument -- at least not for long.

"It may have to do with America's racial diversity..." — Charlton Heston, when asked why there were over 11 000 deaths due to gun violence in America.

Target-rich environment?

"I think that gay marriage should be between a man and a woman."
- Arnold Schwarzenegger

Either way you look at it, he's half right.

First one: Actually, while I think that statement is quite wrong, he may be on to something there--no racial diversity, no big racism problem, right? Of course, that's the stupid/easy way out and deprives the country of one of the very things that make us so successful over the years--our immigrants. Not to mention the fact that even if it were true, due to little things called the US Consitution and basic moral values, it would be kinda hard to do anything about.

Arnold's quote seems like one of those "misspoken" things, I don't like those kinds of quotes. He probably meant to omit the word "gay", either that or it was said in jest, who knows.

I think it's safe to say that everyone says something that they look back on later and regret saying it. Although sadly I doubt most of those we just quoted really would say they regretted anything.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

I think it demonstrates that he is a bigot, plain and simple. To expand on your comment, if there was no racial diversity in this country, the same bigots would simply aim thier hate at some other, less easily identified group. Bigotry is not like a spigot - it doesn't just shut off with a twist of the handle.
