When I started, Siobhan Taylor and Jai Nomad were kind enough to show me around, get me a bit acclimated, and help me learn to build (still learning though...hehehehe). The NexCorp gang helped me out quite a bit too.
Many of us joined at the same time, and people like Victoria Moonflower, Jade Lily, Trimming Hedges, and really the whole "old" Hawthorne crowd were a lot of fun to "grow up with". They're still all good friends to this day. ![]() Regards, -Flip _____________________

First meeting was with Jill Linden on the starter isle (still have the card). I was having trouble with video too and had to log out about then, but had a chance to talk a bit.
First detailed build lesson I attended was from Yadni Monde. Can't thank enough for clarifying things so well, things finally began to make sense. Jamie Otis has been a more recent help on building / scripting during the two weeks I was on vacation from work. I also have learned a lot from people posting here, and not from SL itself (as will happen when you work 3rd shift for a living ![]() -Alan _____________________

hrmmm... well Rysidian Rubio threatened to break my arm if I didnt try out this weird looking "game" called Second Life... "why are you wearing a penguin shirt" I asked him.. "I don't know", he replied, "but it's fun, you can fly.. look" as he crashed into a cliff face.
The first people who helped me apart from Rysie would have had to have been Francis Chung and Kex Godel and Daemioth SKlar (who incidentally I thought had a bizarre name at the time ![]() _____________________

I wish I could remember more of my first day. Oraibi Zapata dragged me onto SL and Orientation Island was deserted as I went through it. He met me at the Welcome Area, but was the only other person there and as he was no more than a day old himself I didn't really realize it was a Welcome Area! I thought you just teleported to some random place, and this one happened to have a motorcycle!
We went to some club or something, and there were people there with names.... The first place I actually remember anything about was Antagonistic Protagonist's Free Money events at Chaos Theory Gaming. There, I met the charming hostess as well as Whisper Lily, Sally Zapata, MagicJustsue Kojima, Doodles Casanova and many more. Whisper Lily was my first neighbor. Rysidian Rubio was the first person to buy land from me. Bakuzelas Khan was the first person I gave a neg rate to! (Sorry, Baku! All forgiven now) Dakota Bukowski was the first person I built a house for. Germaine LaFollette was the first person I went sailing with. Random Twilight was the first person I met on SL that I knew from somewhere else. Taeja Diaz was the first person to come over to my house just to sit and chat. _____________________

Here are my first people I met
10-20-2004 08:41
The funny thing is that I heard about SL and downloaded it, came and I was so lost I left. Then I tried again, and nothing, I even forgot the name I used at that time. I couldn't even fly and it embarrased me the way I fell all the time and how the avatar does when you fly and fall (looks like a rotten potato splashed) then how it cleans itself. And I looked so ugly I said, forget this, and deleted from the hd.
Then my friend Cage Mandala from There said, you should try it one more time, the game rocks and told me all the great things he was doing in SL. Building from a little box a whole house and selling them. I said, geezz, I can't be that dumb!! Let me try again. So he helped me thru the orientation island and wuuuuuuuuuala!! I made it to safer land where I saw others. Then I was more braver each time. Cage showed me a lot of tips and points. Actually was so dark I couldn't see anything. I thought was funny my hands typing on air and how I laughed and hold my tummy. Then I came back and met Cinda Valentino one day, I will never forget she gave me the coolest chaps, wow, I thought I was so cool!!, so I didn't take those off for a while (I still wear the chaps at times), then also Chip Midnight, cool, he was awsome, gave me a lot of tips and his own style creation, perfect for the chaps!!! And then I met Star Twilight, gosh she was so cool giving all this stuff, I was so happy!!!! And by the way Cinda gave me my free apartment and I still have it. My main event I always went was Misty's give away. I went there all the time with my friend Dirk Donovan, which was someone that landed 2 seconds after I landed that last time I tried. He said he talked to me at the orientation island, but I was so confused I didn't pay attention, I do remember him making his avatar at the island and seen his name. Then after that, Dirk and I became great friends, always sat together in events, went to dollar stores (the only store we could afford at the time) and learned everything together. You are the best Dirk!!! Great people you meet in SL....... I love you all!! Palomma |

The first person to help me was Loki. I was impatient and didn't do the whole newbie orientation island thing; rather I went right to the welcome area as soon as I could figure out how. Loki helped me learn how to fly
![]() Not long after that, I found Nephilaine's shop, and spent a long time alternating between drooling at her displays and staring at my meager newbie account balance. Neph happened to drop by, and patiently listened to me blab on and on about how great she was, and then gave me a hugely generous amount of money to spend in her shop. Thank you, you both made a big impression on me and made my newbie experience better ![]() |

My Mentors
10-20-2004 09:24
The first person to help me never knew it, it was Marcos Fonzarelli, the ARMORD foundator, builder of fully armored avatars (you can see his steambot just up there on this very page), that guy OPENED my eyes on the possibilities of SL s avatar customisation. We meet from time to time.
The Second person helped me so much I wouldnt be the YadNi you know without HIM, I m talkin of Lumiere Noir, the Creator of the Ivory Tower Library of Primitives. He first helped me undirectly with his wonderful inworld tutorial, and when I joined him on IM, i discovered the most Kind and Helpful person i could dream of. So yes, we re still in contact and I really owe him a LOT. Lumiere is my Technical and Architectural Mentor. The third person to help me too was another EYE OPENER to me, he does the BEST living form I have EVER SEEN, and his name is Starax Statoski. He is my Organic Mentor. We meet from time to time. |

The people who helped me the most in 2003 were,
Flipper, Tom Sklar (SP?) Chip Midnight who use to live next door to me till I moved to Periwinkle and sold my land to Valana Spencer. Obscuro Valkyrie who invited me to a party in Vampire Empire and then at that party Invited me to join Vampire Empire. Malana Spencer and Valana, who also use to live next door to me in Freelon. They gave me a very nice light for Christmas. Lots of others also helped me. |

I came to SL after slothing around in There for about 5 months. I left when it exited beta.
I met several people that both made me ponder if I should stay, and those that made me definately want to. Trimming Hedges was the first mentor I met. Despite his 'Dour and Uninteresting'ness according to his title, he's been a great help and has definately more than earned the Mentor title. Be sure to comment on his similar appearance to Abe Lincoln. :> Toy Lafollette was second. Again, another mentor that deserves praise and delicious cookies. She's awesome, and she's really got a green thumb. heck, she's green right up to her shoulders. The gardens in Jenner are an awesome sight, and it's a great place to relax away from the flashing lights and swirling particles of malls and clubs. Toy, I could provide you with some nature sound streams for your garden plots, if you wish. (I think I offered this once before) ^_^ Hudson Stryker gets the points for getting me interested in doing custom AVs. This was the point I started on my first dragon AV. Decent guy, creative, in general a good friend when he's around. ![]() Huns Valen was the first person to give me an "I'll never make anything that good" inferiority complex... which quickly turned into "Hmm... maybe if I do this..." inspiration. Thus the first of "the boids" began to appear. And everything went out of control upward from there. Even if Huns doesn't speak a lot (Well, when I'm around), he inspires. ![]() Michi Lumin helped me learn/find out how alpha textures and Photoshop 5.5 worked. With her help I finished my first wings, and with that help things just kept getting cooler and cooler. Siobhan Taylor, who (along with Trimming) taught most of the courses I was at in my first month. Always a treat and a good learning experience. Everyone has to start somewhere, and my start was in her classes. Definately worthy of Mentor/Instructor title. ![]() _____________________
