Who was the first person in SL to help you when you first entered this world? Do you remember their name and how and what they taught you? Do you still keep in touch with that person?

The first person I met was Stampshady Grimm. He was the first person I met and he helped show me a few basic things as in walking, focusing with camera angles and he showed me my first mall which was his and even gave me $500 lindens to have a spending spree :) He left before I knew how to take clothes from the box so I walked around with a box on my head for about an hour. A lot changes in 5 months. I never forget the first person who helped me in each world I've been in.

Two of the first people I met were Juro Kothari and Cyrus Apollo. They helped me so much. Juro built my first house and my first club and they both helped me with every aspect of the game. They are both still very good friends and I love them dearly. Thank you both!

Nice thread Sahara. :D

Madeira Westerburg, I was about 2 days new and came to the boards with a question. Not only did she contact me in game, and help me on the one question ... but since has been like a hovering angle, never interfering, just always there to save my arse from doing something stupid. Props to all the people like Madeira that get mentioned in this thread.

Nyna Slate, I bumped into her in AV Central in Natoma back in Beta, and she showed me how to take the box off my head!! LOL She also gave me a pair of earrings that I wore for over a year before ever taking off. We became good friends some time later and Garth and I attended her RL birthday party just last night.

Gotta love that gal.

It get complicated. The first thing I ever did on SL was go to a showing by Devyn Grimm of some cool things he made. While I was there, I met Alana Monde, who gave me my first ever calling card.

I remember bumping into Cristiano Midnight and Launa Fauna, at Cris's hotel in Federal. They were very nice, and told me a lot.

But I think it was Sulumor Romulus who really took me under her wing, that day. Showed me all the sights, helped me learn what all the buttons did. Introduced me to people, and even gave me a jet!

Unfortunately, I kinda lost touch with most of them. I see Sulumor every once in awhile, but I don't even think she remembers that first day. And by lucky coincidence, I became friends with Alana again, though she doesn't remember that first day either. :)

ah well, I'm still grateful.

Well, when I first signed on I think Jeff Linden was the first person to help with some things.

Then the next day Pendari Lorentz helped me out more and showed me around alot.

Then lets see, Cristiano Midnight helped with some stuff.

And, hmm... Theres been alot of other people over time who have given me various tips on stuff. But I think those were the first people to help me out. If anyone reads this and goes "Damnit Oz I helped you with this!" let me know! My memory gets foggy sometimes. :P

My first day I met Hiro Pendragon, who was very nice to me. He was the first one I spoke with, not counting the parrot : ) I will always remember his kindness to a stranger.

The first person to help me was Teean Milk. It was interesting as the first person I really met in SL happened to be from a land far away. I don't see her very much though, partially because she's a good 14 hours ahead.

The first person to help me, right on Orientation Island, was Char Linden. She was sympathetic toward my graphics and crashing issues (ill-behaved ATI card) and got me running well enough that I didn't crash out of the world every five minutes or so. Thank you, Char.

The first non-Linden was Echo Dragonfly, who took me and Katania Pennyfeather (another newbie) under his wing and showed us around a bit, including a stop by The Edge for my first night of clubbing in SL. The major thing I learned, due to generous donations of stuff from both him and random people at the club, is that I must keep my inventory organized!

Mallecho Curie - who encouraged me to go beyond the borders of Morris and Ahern, and invited me to join my first group - and Trimming Hedges - who taught me that I didn't need to click on a player to talk to them, like I did for most other graphical chat programs I'd used, so I no longer had to walk around whispering. ;)

No one!!!
Nobody helped me when I was in my first days.
It took me bloody forever to even figure out how to get out of Prelude.
The stupid client crashed every 5 minutes so I ended up logging out. By the time I had half-completed the island tutorial thing (I didnt even get my $300!) I couldn't figure out how to TP and sorta opened a landmark which took me... somewhere empty. Either the amphitheater or Da Boom or something. Those were two places I spent a lot of time at in my early days. It was so god damned buggy that I was like going around blindfolded and with my feet tied to each other... lol
I especially cherish (cough) the memories of me constantly falling through the amphitheater floor and having to TP out to somewhere...

Lynn Lippman, Cyrus Apollo, Jai Nomad and of course Siggy Romulus. They were all so generous with their time, their inventory, their patience and their tips/mentoring that they made SL an instantly welcoming place. They'll always be my favorite people in SL.

(This should be posted under the Jonquille Noir account. No idea why it keeps posting under my alt account even when I'm logged in with the other. Eh)

Waaay back when I was brand new...

We arrived in the noobie pen, and the first person to talk to me was Dan Linden. Well maybe he was talking at me, because I had no clue as to what I was doing... Ah the days of being a clueless noob. I see many posts here about being clueless, just know this my children, there are great benefits and joys in being a clueless noob. Just like RL, enjoy your SL childhood, it is a fleeting thing.

One of the first people I spoke with out of the pen was Steller Sunshine. She gave me my first + rate and it was just such a happy thing. Flyk Escher gave me my first building tips, She stopped by and saw my first home was a hollowed cube with a lid, heh. These days my homes are four hollowed cubes with domes. hahahlol.....

Somehow I managed to leave the orientation island without actually doing anything there, or even seeing all of it. Wasn't really on purpose, but then for me that's like reading the directions which I rarely/never do.

After that I spent a several days making an av (ugh, the newbie av settings are awful) and a few attachments before I saw anyone. wasn't really avoiding people, but wasn't seeking them out either.

The first person I actually spoke to was Daxian Fauna. I highly recommend her as a mentor (she might officially be a mentor now, not sure). Patient, answered questions, loaded me up with a lot of pretty useful newbie stuff. It was even fairly organized :).

Thanks Dax!

Also found Hank Ramos and USL pretty quickly and since Damien Fate has builds next to USL, him too :). Both very helpful :).

My first acquaintance was Baby Thorn... She surely helped me out alot. Gave me some freebees, showed me around. She really gave me the feel of how fun this game is.
Thanks to her, I've got a new addiction: Second Life.

Viola Bach.

I think I spent my first three days at the welcome area talking to Viola and a couple of the Lindens before accidentally deleting all my clothes and running naked out to greet the world.

Siggy.

I dont remember the first person that helped me out, but the first people I remember meeting was feniks Stone and Misnomer Jones. It was at night and they were in Boardman roasting corn on a little red bbq pit. Everything was brand new to me and I was very fasinated and sort of intimidated at the same time.

Back then, it seemed common to not see anyone at all for long periods of time. I wandered and fumbled around a lot by myself the first week or so. These days, there is rarely a time when you dont see another green dot on the minimap.

One of the first people I met in game was Darwin Applebee (god help me :) ). He gave me a hippo outfit that displayed the text (I am the stupidest person in the world) over my head as I wore it. Shortly after, I was convinced that the suit was somehow taking money from me (I didn't at that point know about rezzing costs).

Shortly after, I met Brad Lupis (who was dressed as a monkey) and Dan Rhodes. Dan and I found some great public land on the beach of Federal/Stanford, and I bought a way too big plot. It's been really great learning SL and watching the world grow with Dan.

I later figured out that I could cut back on most of my land as it didn't really matter if I was surrounded by public land (oh, those were the days).

When I first left the orientation islands, I met Catherina Omega at the welcome area in Ahern. We chatted about the client performance on the macintosh. There was a good crowd there and I mostly stayed there that night. One of the next people is Chip Midnight. I met him in Aqua, where I had a store (back when there was actually public public land). He was very nice and helpful. Hey Ben Fonzaralli, if you are reading this, giving me some land when I joined at a low cost and being so helpful, that was great. I am eternally grateful for that.

Back on the Orientation Island, I saw a couple of other totally clueless newbies. I don't remember their names. After spending the first evening fussing with my av's looks, I finally found my way off the island.

Back in May of 2003, the Welcome Area was a large open area, with some signs, the Event Board (handed us a daily notecard which listed the 7 or 8 events that day) and a few paths. No boardwalk or balloon stop yet. It was a very lonely place. The very first av I saw in-world was Dave Zeeman in his Neo av. He flew past, lingered a bit, then took off.

I don't remember the next few persons I met, but I do recall going to one of feniks Stone's basic building classes later that evening. No class stages yet. It was just on a hill near the Welcome Area. I recall feniks asking us to step over a sim line, because some of us were in a lagged sim.
