Higbee Protagonist!

He inspired me to create plants & animals. I spent days putting up a pre-fab house on the side of a cliff (my land for the landless) and it was SO bad and I thought it was SO ugly, but one day I logged in to find that he had come across my "garden" and had left all kinds of beautiful rare birds as gifts; eagles, hawks, spotted owl, raven, doves.

That single act of quiet kindness changed my SL experience and inspired me to create nature in SL.

Marcos Fonzarelli was the first person I had an actual conversation with. He gave me a ride on the hoverpad, took me to the mall, showed me his Armord vendor ... and eventually abandoned me in Luna. Yesh. :D

Kathy Dayton...she found me in Luna with a Box firmly attached to my head. She almost walked away but instead spent the next hour showing me everything she knew...then she ran me over with her boat lol :p

I came in on the night of the November Slashdot article about giving us ownership over our creations.

Loki Pico greeted me in the welcome area, then showed me the sandbox in Olive, and gave me a quick short basic intro to building. He then showed me his house near Olive and was showing me some neat screenshots he'd taken when Kris Ritter stopped by (in a Krusty the Klown avie). I've seen Kris dozens of times since then, but for some reason I still visualize her as the Krusty AV when I read her name =)

I'm guessing they must have had the Lime welcome area open for the Slashdotting, as I don't recall being teleported to Olive, yet it wasn't that far away.

I thought it was really cool how Loki was helping out new people, and how everyone was really friendly. I remember talking to Doug Linden for about 5 minutes in the welcome area my first day here as well. That just totally blew me away that the developers would talk to regular people. I think the way people treated me on my first day here is what inspired me to want to help others, and is part of the reason I'm still a welcome area regular almost a year later =)

OMG I got mentioned!!! *blushes red*

Cyrus Apollo, Nyna Slate, and Cricket Sunchaser were three people who helped me in my first few days of SL.

I am so happy to say I am still friends with all three. I could sit here for an hour coming up with names of people who have been overly generous with me in SL... perhaps that's why I love SL so much - the spirit of cooperation toward creativity.

*smiles warmly*

great post idea!

I ran into a few people that helped teach, but Steller Sunshine was the first to take an interest. She helped me to become the Welsh slacker I am today. I'll never forget my sugah momma :)

Caliandris Pendragon was the first person. Dragged me by my boot straps into SecondLife after URU. We met in URU and became friends in URU and still are. Some of the other folk from URU came over around the same time. I've found that many of the uru folk are too up tight. I suspect many fear being social, and it eventually shows through (as being up tight and control freaks). Anyway back to SL, she took me to my first building event on my second day in game (before i had any idea on how to build, or link objects). I think i would have won if i had known how to link objects. That was also the day i learned about ghost objects ~_~'

Other people of note from when i joined are Jim Wheeling. Also the Cube Riders which i was one. (we rode a cube around the ever so small world of SL 1.2). Sometimes i wish i was a noob again.

On my first day in when I first landed in Ahern (while Cali flew off to Luna to send me a tp, or was it De Haro?) i was killing a few min looking around and there was this white ferry av on one of the landing pads. The ferry had a ghost lights attachment and wings. I was just amazed at the bueaty of the av against the sky background with the trees. I wish i had taken a picture. (think the av is sold by Kats, the person who sells Ryo-ohki's and other pets)

my first av had magenta hair (the color of my hair in URU) (then i bought the Samuria armour the next week at the purple swapmeet for 500 Lindens. Cali had given me 2k to burn. which took me a good while to burn; and i haven't had hair since)

*sigh*
now i'm a homeless ronin.

The first person that helped me out in SL was actually a long time friend that I had originally met in the sims ::gasp:: :D Anyhow, i was out in the middle of nowwhere playing with my avies appearance, when somehow the screen went ::poof:: and i somehow ended up in Plum, which i later found out that I had somehow managed to "teleport."

Anyhow, my friend, Rickard Roentgen, who had had a weeks time to figure out the game while I was in Vegas, rescued me from the barren wasteland of Plum, in one of those Linden transports :D He showed me some basics, gave me some wings he had built and in no time we were off building in some sandbox meeting lots of people :)

this is sorta easy.... (i hope)

I had started here after a friends persuasion (Chele Greenstein), never made it throught the orientation.. she TP'd me out of there (nope no money:(...)
we just hung around the first day on someones land.. trying to learn, my 2nd day I hung around welcome area .. just listening.. trying to learn....
my 3rd day.. I was TP'd to another person she had met... Magnum Serpentine... its when he still lived on Freelon? (next to Chip Midnights).. he was very kind... helpful, patient with our questions.. told us we could come there any time to hang out... so I did a few days.. my most favoritest place to just sit and try to learn was the "cave stage" of Chip Midnights... while sitting there a orange devilish looking character stopped and talked to me.. (scared me at first) but the friendliest.. most gentle , Loki Pico :)
Also Stevie Stone ran into me when I was lost.. trying to find something in aqua, she gave me directions and $500! (which I still need to repay *gulps* ) sowwy
this about sums up my first week.. Oh and yes of course my friend / partner from another online game had joined me here, (Mash Mandala) and we have had a few humerous adventures... lol.. he now leaves me in awe with his beautiful creations....

yes I still stay in touch with Magnum.. he lives next door to me even (he is in periwinkle, me in purple) still a very nice , helpful friend. I don't see many of the others...
but will look them up again...

OH MY. I'm so enthused!!! So many fond memories, and I'm still on this whirlwind adventure in my Second Life. I previously blogged about my first experiences here, and I have a personal Second Life FAQ thanking the nice people who first helped me into this metaverse.

New memories are made each day, literally, and so, off of the top of my head, here goes... off of recent memory. This is by NO NO NO means a complete list, but ah, I wanted to share my appreciation. As has been sort of said in The Kentucky Fried Movie, "You have my gratitude".

Thanks to:

-Francis Chung - "don't call it that!" - for being Fran. Do you ever wonder about the wonder?

-Lady Dawson - "most excellent!" - I didn't know someone like her existed. Now I do. Life can be so full of pain and suffering sometimes, so it's nice to have someone to laugh along with. Lots. :)

-Damien Fate - "thanks I'm glad you like it" - hmmm apparently he's got an air guitar anim I'm looking for. Next time I log in I'm gonna get it. I think I must have confuzzled him when I screamed via IM, something to the effect of: "DID YOU MAKE THE YIPMEN FROM MARS?! OMG I LIKE THEM SOOO MUCH!!!" I think it's sooo sweet he and Washu are in love. I just visited their home, and guess what? Really, GuEsS WhAt? Milli Vanilli's "Girl you know it's true" was playing! How appropriate. I wanna hear more Second Life love stories.

-Kex Godel - "rhymes with Chex, one of my fave cereals" - for answering question, after question, after question and for discussing ideas with me. She is always a welcome sight in the, well, Welcome Area. Avatar traffic, passing through! Oh yeah, her FAQs are a must-read for newbies.

-Bakuzelas Khan - "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" - it's demons like him that set a good example for the rest of demonkind and why friendship among races is important. I first heard of him more recently, during NWNFE04, and later met him in Baku (coincidence), where he helped me with go kart racing and skydiving.

-Toy LaFollette - "hehehe" - I'm not sure if "munchkin" is a slur to her. I've never asked, so I'll just call her Toy. Her home is Black Rose Gardens, but for the sake of simplicity, I call it Toyland. First time I saw her was hanging out by the prim attack table shortly after I came in. I was like, "OMG!!! WHAT A TRIP!!!"

-Goshua Lament - "The Chicken Gang" - his blog was one of those I read before I was on SL. I just saw him inworld today, and we both danced around with chicken hats with Ulrika and Kendra. Puzzled? Show up at Oktoberfest this Sunday and you won't be. Or maybe you'll still be, but less. Or something.

-Hamlet Linden - "now is the time when we dance" - for writing what he writes. Fo shizzle.

-Eggy Lippmann - "the Eggmeister" - for his heartwarming generosity and sense of humor. Once inventories are easier to sort I'm sure I'll see more of his creations. ;)

-Gwyneth Llewelyn - "this is The Matrix 0.01" - for sharing her wealth of erudite knowledge with me and encouraging me to do things like Thinkers meetings and consider possibilities. She knows her stuff and I was fortunate to meet her in Ahern. I know you're sick Gwyn, so get well soon!

-Chage McCoy - "he says he's evil" - for STINGRAY and DEBUG. One of his designs was the first plane I ever flew in SL. I should mention I just crashed it into the Pixeldolls tower, right into a certain caterpillar smoking a hookah I AM VERY FOND OF -- sorry Tae and Nephi, don't worry I cleaned up the mess. :)

-Cristiano Midnight - "no 'H', but a lot of blue in the hotel" - for running SLuniverse.com, which was one of my primary sources of info before I ever dipped toes into the non-splashy water (which may change now 'cuz of something BuhBuhCuh Fairchild did ;) ). He encouraged me to dive in.

-Mistress Midnight - "welcome to Midnight City!" - first time I ever went to Midnight City, there she was. I went on Sinatra's Spook House Ride, which I had heard of in an earlier news article. She was most gracious and welcoming, not to mention encouraging of me and my adventures. A few days ago, MC had damage enabled. I died 3 times in her shop by repeatedly bumping against the design columns -- 'cuz third time's the charm. Funny thing, before I met her, I saw her larger-than-life body on a billboard, and that was a trip.

-Loki Pico - "let's go to the sandbox" - that height ruler was really handy! Thanks for your help with some of my other Q's too.

-Kris Ritter - "get your ass in here" - who basically said that when I was wondering whether I should come to SL or not. I admittedly read it rather harshly, which is humorous in hindsight, because I would find that she has been a source of inspiration for me. Yes, the UFO-abducting-a-cow av counts. Krittannia was one of the first places I visited in SL.

-Oz Spade - "Got shiny?" - I'm seeing him inworld more and more, which is a good thing, because everytime I see this classy gentleman, there's something cool to talk about. Or an airship to ride. He knows his SL history and I have much to learn.

My first night in SL was a blast!! I was with my friends Arda Fauna and Oboe Blanc. We ran into Lady Dawson and Siobhan Taylor at the welcome area, both where very kind and they helped us out allot. Then Lady Dawson took us all for a ride in here car and air balloon, we all had such a great time, I will never forget it:)

My first or second day I was building in Morris after I realized I didn't need a master's in engineering to drag prims around, and Starax Statosky and I started building together. I thought he had been around a while from his knowledge of all the edit settings, and later realized he started the same day I did! He gave me some great ideas and inspired me to keep building, and we're still friends.

Also, Jake Cellardoor welcomed me to Clementina with a boat ride and showed me the caves and Governer's mansion.

I was blundering around messing with my appearance (long blonde hair with stone texture skin) and took a rest at this nice looking Washington Memorial surrounded by American flags. Out the other sides comes George Busch and Shelley Schelgel (in a wheel chair no less). After that I ended up spending alot of time in DaBoom, back when it's Mature status really never seemed to mean anything. Learned alot watching Shelley and Jubal Protagonist play with their builds. Regretfully, none of those folks I got to know there seem to be around anymore. =\

jarod godel introduced me to the world, walked me through prelude and promptly disappeared ha ha ha. later he released a large chunk of land in mauve and gave me the money to purchase an olive lot from maryjane sunshine so i could open fate park. i miss that old park. he also hosted tech talks with me, my first events everybody say aaaaawwwww.

jon micheal gardner found me wandering through stanford my first day, gave me some clothes and taught me how to wear them. i'd been wondering if i was the only nudist inworld. he then suggested that i attend loki piko's mentoring event where i got the scoop. attend classes and events. that's the best advice anyone can ever give a newbie. loki became my mentor and dutifully answered every tedious question i asked him over the next several weeks. he was always so cheerful and kind.

i was instantly struck with the concept of landscaping. candie apple taught me loads about texturing, alpha channels, and building techniques to produce trees and bushes. i would have never figured all that out. even more than the wowz factor, the generosity of the people inworld convinced me to stick around.

Some truly wonderful stories here!! There are so many eagerly helpful folks in SL!

I joined SL on New Years eve and there was no one at the Welcome Area. I was clueless, but eventually got the flying part down. I did run across one girl, working on her avatar, and she gave me some items (wish I could remember her name) and seemed very nice, but logged off and left my alone in my small corner of the world.

For the first week, I pretty much bluffed it, learning as I went and exploring. I talked to a few folks here and there, but for the most part learned lessons the hard way.

Then I ran across the old Elite (possibly the first versions?), and recieved help and kindness from Felicia Feaver, who showed me about attaching items, clothing, how to reset scripts, etc. I believe Germaine, Tanya and few others also gave me some much needed advise and help during those early days.

The I spotted a few folks on a rooftop and landed in time to meet Myradyl Muse and she showed me such kindness, and showed me her home, which I was so shy about entering, thinking I would make some social blunder and peek into the wrong closet or break something. I was amazed.

Then I ran across Alana Monde, Angel Coral and Higbee Protagonist and truly began my SL journey...

Hmm the first person i ever talked to was Char Linden, and thats when there was no welcome area, just that lil gazebo place, i was SO confused cause there were cabins all over the place lol. I asked her how to buy land, but i didn't even realize she was part of Linden Lab, i just thought she was a another player.
