Isn't this the Lindens job? They are the expert on what is a violation and what isn't. And if the person has a license then the linden probably already know.

Which is why you ask politely. Yeah, you could AR 'em, but doesn't that create problems for the Lindens too? Keep in mind that we aren't made aware of the outcomes of the AR's, so the next person comes along and AR's what might be a perfectly legal operation again. I mean, what IF people were actually nice and didn't mind being asked in a polite manner if their product is legal? Of course, I'm probably asking too much here about the being nice all round, but hey.

If I had something that was copyrighted, I sure as heck wouldn't mind being asked by a concerned buyer if it's actually legal. I'd be flattered to think that there were others out there supporting the company in a friendly and polite manner, and not wasting the time of the Lindens by ARing me! Since I don't (eventually, I will, but it will be my own copyrights) or am not aware that I do, I also wouldn't mind a polite IM telling me that something might be! I'm not going to snap people's heads off for something like that! But be polite, please.

But that's just me. I can't speak for the rest of you, nor will I. Just assume that if I am going to buy something that looks copyrighted, I will politely ask BEFORE buying, thus showing my support for the copyright/trademarks in a positive way! ARing is a last resort to me, always has been, always will be. I was looking at in as how I would like to be treated in that respect. Ah, well.

(changed ARE to AREN'T made aware of outcomes)

My policy is a person can ask me to take it down. I'd hand them my email address and request the Copyright holer contact me directly. (lack of trust in humans).

On the other hand I did ask someone to remove a copyrighted item. I knew it was Copyrighted as I was a frequent shopper at the website and when I told them and let them know (after checking with the Copyright holder to verify), the person was very nice (although tweaked out) to take it down. He had actually been told by another resident he could use it. On a sidenote the website the picture started from states no usage without permission...and the answer is NO.

*nods* Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I've asked friends that I've seen using copyrighted stuff to take it down. Neopets had a policy of "You can use our images as long as you put that they are copyrighted to Neopets Inc and provide a link to our website from it," concerning images being used on fansites. Now to create a Kau tee-shirt in SL? Dunno, you'd have to ask what their policy is on that. But it doesn't hurt to ask the person and heck, maybe they already have the answer and can help you get in contact with them! (snickers, Since when I left that site, it had major, major support issues, good luck on the contact part)

*grins playing with his Gelert as he speaks* Yes I know what you mean about neopets. Most of the time though if I go to yell about a violation I will check with the copyright holder first. Which scares me cause right now I'm looking at copy rights from one possible violation and it is owned by two seperate groups.
