what a strange thread. if you just don't want access to sl anymore, why not just uninstall the program from your computer? why the need to get banned?

how hard can it be to get banned... i mean come on, i know friends who had there accounts suspended for trivual things, surley its easy to do.

I have a feeling there is a clue somewhere in THIS post as to why iDream is posting this thread, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

i dont want to give the impression that i may nor may not return, if its canceled only, there is nothing to stop me recreating a new account..

In my mind, i would like it so that its 100% banned, i dont like loose ends.

It's confusing.... sounds like this guy is really unhappy but is reluctant to talk about why. Is he trying to do this as a form of protest because of his friends being 'suspended for trivial things?' Is it a case of, if they can't be here then I don't want to be either? I wish he'd give some details... this is a very drastic thing to do, I hate to see new people suddenly deciding to leave over something that could be solved in other ways.

I think a review of this persons posting history tells the story.

Sounds like they hated SL since day 1.

Sometimes drastic acts like this are a cry for attention, because the person needs it. It could be he/she's hurting inside, and doesn't know the proper way to express themselves. I have a small bit of experience of that from my childhood.

I'm not qualified to deal with any of this though. However we have a lot of members in SL. Allow me to shout:

IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE???

Seriously though if we have any professional counsellors maybe they could just have a small chat with him/her.

So, it's not just that you don't want to come back, it's that you don't want to even have a choice in the matter? You don't want LL to ever allow you back, even if you should change your mind a year later?

Talk to us, iDream-- why are you so unhappy about this? What's happened to make you want to never be allowed back?

I think most things that will get you banned in SL are probably going to leave you open to litigation.

For example, a mail bomb is actually a suable offense given the can spam act.

I suggest you just cancel your account and leave it at that.

Give me your password in a private message, I'll change it. BAM! You're done. (Its not illegal to give you password out in ToS anymore; its highly discouraged.)

So it's a bonus that you might get banned for giving away your password?

I'm with Jsecure and Ilianexsi though - it sounds to me like you really need to talk to someone.

I am highly suspicious of this person's motives. Hmmmm ... let's see if this makes sense:

I am very unhappy with my phone service. Can anybody tell me something I can do that would be so awful that the phone company would never again issue me a phone.

There's more to this than meets the eye.

Exactly-- paying for a year in advance tells me that at one time iDream had big hopes and plans for SL, and liked it enough to foresee wanting to be here a while. Something seems to have changed very suddenly to bring all that crashing down. Whatever it is, it's made him/her extremely unhappy, so much so as to want to do something drastic. I don't personally know iDream, but it's more than a little troubling to me.

Has anyone considered that the iDream that is posting now may be the partner of iDream that created the account and simply doesn't want him/her to continue using SL for whatever reason? Or maybe iDreams partner has threatened to leave him/her unless he/she leaves SL for good?

I can think of a lot more legitimate reasons...

i dont want to attack people, because thats not who i am.. it has to be some other way..

Well iDream, the funny thing is, if banning you will only serve your personal agenda, maybe they'll end up letting your account stay up and active as the best course of punishment?

Quite so. But that doesn't mean they all are.
I could see this snowballing into a discusion on ethics.

I was just thinking about this statement again... wanting to make sure it's permanent, wanting to tie up any possible loose ends.

I hate to say it, and please correct me if I'm reading way too much into it-- but isn't this the avatar equivalent of committing suicide? Doing something on purpose to remove yourself permanently? Anybody else see it that way, or is it just me?

I'm really curious why you'd care about "the impression that you may or may not return". If you don't want to be here, just don't. What do you care what other people think about your chances of returning? Do you really think anyone would think about it at all? With all due respect, once you're out of sight you'll definitely be out of mind.

Okay, wait a minute. Now I'm envisioning a scenerio where someone's holding a gun to your head every day, forcing you to log into SL while he laughs with mad delight. Your only way out is to use your wits to become somehow unable to log in no matter how hard you try. That's really sucks, man. I feel for you. Have you sold the movie rights yet? This could be a winner.

Anyway, the teen grid suggestion might be the direction to go. I can't suggest this directly since it might get me in trouble, but hypothetically speaking, if one were to make an account on the TG with the same credit card one used for one's main grid account, and then did what one could to call attention to the fact that one is adult, one would end up being banned.

Oh, what's that you say? You don't have the credit card? Oh, I get it. You're not really iDream and you're just someone who's accessed his account and you're trying to get him or her banned. It's either that or else this is some really strange joke that none of us seem to get yet.

Hmm. Maybe iDream just wants somebody else in the game to know that he/she isn't coming back? I agree though, I don't think it's that simple... I'm just speculating, but it's sounding to me more and more like this is a cry for help, rather than a request for information.

It occurs to me that, if you were serious about wanting to be banned, you'd just go nuts griefing people, you wouldn't really need to ask how to do it. The best reason I can think of for asking is that you don't *really* want to leave, you desperately want to talk to somebody about whatever's made you unhappy enough to think about permabanning, but you don't know anybody you can talk to. Again, just my opinion.
