Well Flip, I thought the thread was a great idea. Hope what ensued doesn't prevent someone from creating another thread like it at some point.

There are many thing I come across in SL and dont know the creators, bad memory I guess :)

I have to agree that Starax is a very inspiratinional builder. He was one of my first neighbors in SL and one of the first people to open my eyes to what is possible in SL.

Thanking people is un-american!! Unless you do it very generically:

I would like to thank all of the people that may have, did, or might create, build, enhance, invent, alter, or otherwise have anything to do with anything that might be considered beautiful, lovely, unique, creative, inventive, interesting and/or cool by any person(s), being(s), intelligent species or sentient being(s) that has, or may someday see, feel, taste, hear, or otherwise interact with said object, item, expression, environemtn, or phenomena.

As a butterfly I'm technically not "people." I'm deeply offended by your omission.

I'll just take it back and not say that. But it does piss me off.

Exactly right.

I'd just prefer to see one of these threads titled honestly, "Here's a list of my buddies."

From: Cocoanut Koala
"What ensued" was people expressing their feelings.

And definitely they didn't express those feelings in an effort to inhibit further such threads. (Well, most didn't anyway.)

Sorry if their feelings got in your way.

Beau, I named two - Jennyfur and Ferran! :-) Granted, Jenn's just done a few poses, but Ferran is one of the best animators in game. You're very good yourself! I really envy people with Poser skills, because, well, I, uh, SUCK.

Ingrid, I actually found the discussion to be fascinating :-) No offense taken.

:-)

5 of the people I mentioned on my list (of 10 or so) I have never met in world or ever spoken to.

Thank you for the compliments FLip:)

Though now I feel like I came across as whining for a pat on the back. REALLY it was not my intent, I like to keep up other animators out there and was skimming the thread for just that.

Jonquille,

I do agree that ultimately such a generically titled thread meant to give thanks probably should not have singled out certain people, as it invariably causes hurt feelings by those who feel left off of some arbitrary list. There are so many people who create so much amazing content in SL that no list could begin to encompass it, and I often get tired of the sort of cliquish feeling a lot of threads like this have.

Not that any of the people that are mentioned don't deserve the recognition they always receive, it is just that there are so many other lesser known people who deserve recognition for their efforts that great care should be put into being more encompassing of those outside our own circles. God knows we are self congratulatory enough with each other already :)

I think Ahkenaten Grommet makes wicked cool stuff, and I've only spoken to him once or twice. :P

And furthermore, I think it's really sad that people are bitching about people saying NICE things about each other.

Seriously.

I haven't listed any of my favortires yet. My favorite skins have come from Ryntha Suavage and Starley Thereian... hopefully I spelled those right. I personally think Starax Statosky is the best prim bender in SL, but I am biased, as I have not seen others at work as much. My new favorite hair designer is Lost Thereian. I think what Jimmy Thompson does with textures is awesome. I don't have much experience with scripts and animations, so I have no idea who the gurus might be in those fields. Oh, and my favorite clothing designer atm would be Nephilaine Protagonist at Pixel Dolls.

I have only met one of these people before. I also don't shop around much, so I haven't seen much. These people get *claps* from me. :)

I actually wrote an e-mail to Catherine Linden last week after the new SL homepage was launched because I felt so strongly about "those who go unnoticed for so long" and what exactly it was that draws them to the same people time and time again. I mentioned my SL husband Water Rogers who has been in SL over two years and been involved in MANY projects. He was involved with Nexcorp and the creation of a very large scale and awesome game (along with several other really talented people) that never received any real acknowledgement from the lindens. He's an amazing scripter and an amazing builder yet in all this time the only thing he ever really got a mention for was being a mentor. I also mentioned several other people who I feel have always been looked over and how the trend continues.

I talked about how my sister (Gwinivere Grayson) has had her face stamped on the SL and IGE website and been asked for interviews etc after being in SL a short time. I've been here for two years and I'm just NOW getting a name for myself. You will rarely find my name mentioned among designers because I tend to fall in the shadows of those around me. I get lumped in with the "Midnight gang" or with Mistress. Aimee gets a great deal of publicity, as a matter of fact she was the only one to receive media attention from the SLAP ad that featured myself, Mistress, Aimee, and Surreal and Ferran (which we paid money to be in). Nephilaine, who I love dearly, is at the top of the list and I honestly don't think anyone, no matter HOW good you are will be able to touch her. Her name is pretty much the brand name in Second Life at this point, she could put out a burlap sack dress and people would flock to buy it lol.

My point here is not to complain, to make anyone feel like they shouldn't even bother trying, or to make those people I mentioned feel bad for having their name in the spotlight. My point is simply that there are just some names in SL that will always be called out and to try and compete with that or live up to that will only hurt you in the end. I had to accept a long time ago that I may always be in the shadow of people around me. I had to examine myself and ask why I do what I do. Do I make clothing to be famous in SL? Do I make clothing in the hopes of being madly popular? The answer is no, I was making clothing long before I really knew more than a handful of people in SL and I'll be making clothing til my last day in SL. I'm happy with the fact that I've learned more than I ever thought possible through being a part of Second Life and knowing that I've come a long way. Don't ever let a small amount of reponses in the New Products forum or not being named in a list of "the best of the best" or whatever discourage you.

I appreciate each and every person in SL that makes our world a beautiful place to be. When you create content you add your own special and personal touch to SL and it effects those around you whether you see that right away or not. The minute you've finished your creation the world has changed forever. I'd say that's pretty damn cool :)

Flip was just trying to add some kindness and some much needed encouragement into the forums by showing appreciation for a few of the people he loves and supports. Try not to take it personal if your name isn't mentioned, it doesn't mean there aren't people in Second Life singing your praises as we speak :).

Yes, whatever happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say..." dictating what we do or don't say.. suddenly we need to break apart what "nice things" we're allowed to say too !

aww Jonquille, I have lots of your stuff that i wear all the time. The only reason I didn't mention you is because I decided I'd concentrate on the builders for the most part. Which is more what I do in game. If it's any consolation, I'm not there either. But I'm happy with what i do... sorta. Usually.

uhuh;)
