Do the jocks and the cheerleaders sit at the lunch table in the WA?

What is what all these high stupid popularity contests on this board lately? Lame. Totally Lame.

Jonquille Noir,

I love your mens items, and you know that I buy them for friends. Please keep up the good work.

Let me tell y'all my motivation for starting this thread. I know they've been done a million times before.

Some of the heated debate around these parts in the last week or so left me feeling like a sad panda. I didn't like the side of me that some of these discussions had brought out. I didn't like that I took the bait in several cases from well known trolls, and in doing so, became a troll myself.

I decided to get back to being my goofy, fun loving self and wanted to add something positive again. So let's change the tone of this thread.

Who makes great stuff in world who YOU HAVE NEVER MET IN WORLD?

One who comes to mind for me is DejaVu Skye. I've never met him/her in world, but have found their clothing to be very quirky and fun.

Regards,

-Flip

The only friend I've had here for the past year, for the most part, has been Starax, and he is no longer. I've spent the past week now either building, staring at the ground, crying, or looking for new friends. It just so happens seeing something nice said about me personally, eventhough it's just over something I've done in a game, picked me up a little at a time I needed it very much. .

You scared the beejeebees outta me when I thought Starax was no longer in SL. I just talked to him inworld!!! He is the best creator in SL and its a shame he has never gotten a Developers incentive. Of all people he has inspired many in the sandboxes. He has probably inspired more builders then anyone I know. Lindens...listen up!! Reward this guy somehow!!!
Scriptors get the shaft too.

I believe I am allowed to speak of myself, right? I don't think I risk any kind of warning or whatever by speaking my mind. So here it is: You cannot have a good game environment if you keep trying to cut people from the herd. "Yes, we are friendly and loving and great people and of course you're welcome to join, except, of course for you, you, you, and you."

For myself, I know that I am not supposed to be one of you, and I realize that I am expected to shut up and go away by a number of people on this forum. Despite my honest expression of my views here, and my overall attempts to be kind to people (despite a sentence or two here or there, I realize), I have been made to cry. By cry, I mean, tears want to come. That is unusual for me, and I generally get that way when I discover I have accidentally hurt someone. I am not used to feeling that way because I feel hurt myself.

So overall, I am definitely not one of the in-group. In fact, I am ostracized, and have evolved only from being an alt, to being a dazzled follwer, to being a wannabe troll. Do you think that feels good for a person like me? I've told you enough about myself, despite it sounding immodest, so that you will know I have not been treated this way before.

As far as I can tell, my induction/hazing into this forum and my resultant status of pariah and outcast and, as someone well put it above, "outsider", has resulted entirely because of my making criticisms of established game routines (such as suggesting we should have more ways to make money), and most critically, because of friendships I had prior to coming to this game and my loyalty to same.

When I get hurt on these forums, and go to my friends in the game - people you guys do not even know exist - they say such things as, "they run everybody off," or, "they're a bunch of bloodsuckers," and the like. Why are they saying these things? Maybe because people feel welcomed and allowed into the group only if they toe certain party lines.

This is what you should think about.

If I can understand Amy's position - and I do, having been there - you should try to understand mine and what I'm saying here, particularly because, though you don't like to think about or admit it - it is shared by more people than me. I have been surprised to find that my normal friends in the game have this view of the forums. One of them keeps wanting to post suggestions, but he ALWAYS, ALWAYS doesn't. He says he doesn't want to have to deal with everybody putting him down. Obviously, something is fundamentally wrong with the way people differ with someone's idea or opinion in here.

You should think about your treatment of me. Then you should think about your treatment of others, who may not be as good with words or as diplomatic as I am. Because if you think you can have a happy game, or pleasant forums, when you still put forward in every thread the loud and clear message, "but we don't mean YOU," then you never will. And this is exactly the message you put forward, and often. I happen to be one of the recipients of the message.

Until that changes, you will never have pleasant forums, and never have reasoned discourse, and succeed only in driving people away from not just the forums, but from the game.

Where are the people you want to mention who make nice things? :(

OK - Amy. Reddish, a nice lady, gave me an outfit of Amy's that is ADORABLE.

Starax - Backstage is a work of art.

Whoever made that moving piece of artwork with the guy coming out of the computer to embrace the person at it, at the Touchstone Fair.

Everyone who made anything at the Touchstone Fair.

Whoever made Spitooney Island.

My friend Shaggy and his beach set.

My next door neighbor who made a little Coco doll, and a little Branduff doll of himself.

The new guy in my neighborhood whose name I forget who has put in a wonderful, tranquil, and beautiful waterfall.

Nexus Nash, Adam Zaius, and all the others who participated in creating my neighborhood, Azure Islands, and the neighborhood we lived in before (though I'm kind of reluctant to mention them, because I was trashed once for shoving my aneighborhood down everyone's throats.)

Cristiano's web site is a work of beauty.

Boardman, and all the work you did there.

I know I'm leaving bunches out, but I guess you are right, there are things I can think of - it was the "people" part of the question that threw me, I guess; I tend more to think of the things and places and outfits first, rather than the creator first.

My own wonderful chair! Improved upon by Branduff. My own wonderful bowls! Improved upon by nobody, lol. My own cottage I'm working on! Half-way through, and set back by the fact that I accidentally deleted half of it two nights ago.

How's that?

I think in many ways this is a self-fulfilling prophecy for a lot of people. Some people look at well known "famous" players and assume that they're cliqueish and insular and automatically have a chip on their shoulder towards them, without ever having spoken to them. I've sensed that quite a bit from you, Coco. It always makes me sad because this is such a welcoming community and so blissfully free of snobbery for the most part.

After a while, when people (and I mean people in general, not anyone in particular) you don't know are acting resentful towards you and making accusations about unfair influence and connections or other such things it starts to cause those cliques to be created just because it's nice to be around people who don't treat you like some kind of freak or bad person just by virtue of being well known and successful. Those people like Aimee and others who end up in that position don't get there because they're power hungry or in bed with LL. They get there because they're passionate and talented and put huge amounts of work into those things that get them recognized... not for the sake of recognition but for the sake of their creative drive.

It's immensely strange when I meet new people who are very shy because I'm "famous" and act all deferential... or when someone remarks with surprise "you're so nice!" Ummm, why would you assume I wouldn't be? It seems to me that the biggest attitudes tend not to come from the well known people, but instead are projected onto them by others. That's why the whole FIC thing is hurtful to a lot of people. Even if they have no desire to be considered elite they end up feeling backed into a corner anyway. It's not a happy feeling to know that many people assume you're some kind of a jerk for no good reason.

It can't be, Chip. I explained why that can't be it. I'm used to being one of the successful, famous people myself. That's why I said I came INTO this game as a member of the FIC, lol.

But - yes - I derail the thread. You get one more remark, lol, then we stop this.

coco

P.S. Come to think of it, I didn't derail it all by myself. I was responding to OTHER PEOPLE'S feelings of being on the outside looking in.

Cheerleader?? At the WElcome Area? Yummy...

As to the lists, it's not just lately. It's been going on at least as long as I've been around, and despite what some folks think, it is meant to be positive. Of course folks list those they know. That's natural. If I could remember anyone's names I'd list a bunch.

In fact, everytime I get the chance to explore..I head off in a random direction and ALWAYS end up finding something special, whether it be beautiful, unique, bizarre or just plain entertaining and interesting. There's sooo much to see..and so little time. Many folks I've never heard of, and will never meet in-world, are making wonderous, humorous, and just plain cool stuff out there.

Yeah I don't get it. It's as if there's something about excellence that pisses off some people.

I'm involved with other hobbies and other online forums, and without fail, there is always an element who complains and moans and whines about those who excel. They cast accusations of this, that, and the other.

Sometimes it makes me a little sad, but I just try to combat it by making nifty things and trying to be nice and helpful.

I think it's simply human nature, Marcos.

As for the original topic, I can never make lists. There are so many incredibly creative and talented people in SL that I could never list them all... so to everyone who pours their creative heart and soul into SL, thank you! You all make this the incredibly compelling place it is. I can't think of any other place or thing that makes me go "oh wow!" on a daily basis :)

When people list people, I think it should be viewed as kind of a drunken toast. "I'm feeling good, I'm in a good mood, I wanna share so love, here's who's off the top of my head right now." By no means an exhaustive list by any means.

More of an "Atta boy!" list than a "These people deserve medals" list.

I'm also very happy with what I do. But seeing the same old people stroke the same old people sometimes gets old. There are a lot of very talented people in SL, and I just think it sucks that you have to belong to a clique to get mentioned.

Thank you for saying what I didn't have the balls to. *hugs Jonq*

I may not make anything per se. I don't build, make clothes or script. I would like to think that I bring beauty and creativity to SL with the music that I play and the sharing of myself with those listening to my broadcasts. Where's the love for those that create non-tangible beauty? :(

Everyone that creates is an asset to our world. For those that dont create the world wouldnt be what it is without you. So to everyone I say thank you for making SL what it is.

I find it very interesting that not one animator is mentioned in any of these post(unless I missed one). What would you say the reason is?

I'm not sure about that! When I read "beautiful" there are very few animations that inspire this term in my mind. Owen makes some beautiful animations I think as does Cristiano. But it's difficult to distinguish beauty from body movement for me. I'm such a klutz!
