From: Kathmandu Gilman All views epressed in any post I make is entirely my own, I speak for no one but myself. My opinions and point of view are entirely my own. If I ever give the impression I am speaking for anyone else or any group, trust me, you read it wrong or I worded it badly. I can no easier speak for furs than I can heard cats. If you think I do, I sincerely aplologize. I am neither gay enough, toony, kinky or interesting enough to even be considered a "real" furry by many in the fandom and have ben told that on several occasions so my opinions tend to mean little anyway. Sorry for the misunderstanding. It was just the "nothing gets a furry's attention quicker than free food and pr0n" line that kinda bugged me. I've been a furry for a good part of the last decade before people started turning it into some sort of sexual fetish. I won't lie, as I admit I do like the occasional porn, but that's not everything about being a furry. I'm just a guy who digs anthro animals the same way anime fans dig anime or trekkies dig star trek. It's not a totally sexual thing.

I wasn't really well-known in furcadia or anything. Shy-Hoolood and Tex_O were the names I used in it, IIRC.

Aaaah, ok. I didn't last long in IRC... too many of the 'lolz0rz d00d u so rawk.. asl?' stuff happening there, even MORESO than in Furcadia, and I didn't think that was possible at the time.. Anyway, I was/am Quemazon Funny, actually, I knew more artists in Furc and Taps than I have met in SL. I was so intimidated by the quality of work that these people turned out , I never even tried to get an art program and actually use it. Then I came to SL.

You guys are overlooking that Alexandra Defarge IS a furry (as far as I have seen in SL). Learn how to take a joke!

From: Pathfinder Linden Many times I have thought "boy, I really don't understand why you're dressed like that...but I LOVE the fact that you can express yourself like that in SL." Boy, I really don't understand why your dressed up as hitler, but... BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN Seems you support free expression for some but not others. Maybe I am offended as much by their animals and robots and by black waltzes and black mages (EVIL BLACK MAGIC!) as you are by hiler, islamic terrorists, and giant purple people eaters.

Friend, friends. Let us not bicker about sexual deviance or freedom of expression. Can we not unite under our one common interest? Do we not all enjoy seeing a funny hat? Enough with the arguing! Bring on the hats!

From: Jarhyn Wilde free speech is free speech reguardless if you agree with the opinions or feelings stated or not You have no free speach in Second Life. Never have, never will. Don't kid yourself. It's a private orginization, private community, etc. Pathfinder said "It's great that you can express yourself like that" (To paraphrase). The freedom he was talking about was the *ability* to do things like this (As opposed to, say, There or TSO, where you were heavily restricted in what you could dress up as). That's not the same as free speech. Down with free speech! (In Second Life only).

Should we have free speech in SL? I think we SHOULD. Is free speech a right we deserve in SL? I say if there is enough user support for it we deserve it. Is it our right to have freedom of speech in SL? Quantum Waves wrote a very long paper that perhaps says YES: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=565181

From: Pathfinder Linden SL is full of people who have fun creating non-human avatars. Please just respect each other. Room enough for everyone here. And freedoms unheard of, to boot.
Take care, -Pathfinder Path, there are large numbers of people in SL who will never agree with that sentiment. As a matter of fact; let's face it - LL's administration is in the minority when it comes to 'furries'. When Luskwood came here we were -surprised- that the administration was supportive. I'm assuming that won't remain; as LL hires more people - most 'geeks and nerds' are fully on board with SomethingAwful, and eventually the paradigm will shift. It'll be great. Everyone will look like a hot club chick, and nobody will have anything to worry about anymore. SL will be just like RL, only online. At least nobody will do anything outside of the norm, fantastical or otherwise, in a virtual world anymore. That'll be a great day.

I myself have wondered why SL's population is casting itself in the image of middle-class U.S. consumers. Given that the possibilities are limitless, why aren't we seeing more diversity and creativity in avatars such as yours? I'm going to go out of my way to be more supportive of SL's creative avatars. ~Ulrika~

From: Michi Lumin I see the future and it is full of FURSECUTION ZOMG wow, just wow. Seriously, like I've said time and time again *this* is the attitude that makes most furries on one hand quite contemptable and the other a laugh-riot. As far as fursecution being the sole export of SomethingAwful: News-Flash, there are furries on Something Awful. They are relatively normal people and they are pretty cool. However, the difference between "normal" furries and "zomgfursecution" furries is vast and wide. Stop flipping out when you get teased. It isn't productive. Hell, I still get teased for having red-hair as a 25 year old. All the time, obnoxious "Hey Red" type things as I walk in to stores, or even waiters at restaurants "And what about you Red?" I can't remember the last time my response was more than a smirk and a roll of the eyes. Actually, wait, I can - I was in third grade. Additionally, Furcadia - lol, talk about a haven for the perversion that the SL furries swear that they do not embody. I'll admit, my curiosity was piqued by this thread and I checked it out. My findings were that there is just as much sex in Furcadia as there is in SecondLife - except it is far more... extreme. All manner of REALLY out there fetishes that include things that I can't really mention here since the last time I brought them up in a post about furries and the things that some of them engage in, even the SL furries, someone deleted it. In short, if you're going to harvest more transplants - it would do you good to make sure that they are relatively sane and not into the extreme perversions that are easily found in most Furcadia profiles, that they can take a little bit of a tease here and there as well as refrain from screaming ZOMG FURSECUTION at the drop of a hat. Besides, Juggalos/Jugalettes are TWENTY BILLION times the funny of furries. (maybe you could find me one furry juggalo to tease, for my very own, please??)

From: Eggy Lippmann I used to be an avid user of Furcadia back in the 90s, when it was new... I loved the fact that you could BUILD and SCRIPT stuff, and also CUSTOMIZE your AVATAR Sounds familiar, eh? They also had vampire cliques and a whole lot of cybering / yiffing going on Now... 10 years later, furcadia still has the same crappy isometric graphics it had on my 486... zero evolution. THOSE PEOPLE NEED TO BE SAVED! Go over to www.furcadia.com, download their stuff - it's free. You get L$2000 for every person you refer to SL, and a warm fuzzy feeling of bringing someone into the 21st century. What say you? If they want to be "saved" they will come on their own. That is just rude, going into another game and recruiting people for money. People do it all the time and I walk up and welcome people and it turns out they want me to join Second Life. Well it worked! But, I play There still... Back fire!

You deserve nothing more than you pay for, no matter how many people think the same way. You aren't paying for free-speech. Long. And wrong. The entire premise is off-base to start with, which means basicly every conclusion the author draws is off-base in a like manner.

~Ulrika~ I feel the same way. So many of the furry AV's I've seen are the most creative I've seen in SL. They look great! Which is why I buy them. Being human gets boring after a while. Who cares what people or furries do with animation balls. That's their own business.

Your right to free speech is protection from the government infringing upon it. Newsflash, this is a private system and subject to interpretation. You have the rights they want to give you, whether you like it or not.

From: Alexandra DeFarge Stop flipping out when you get teased. It isn't productive. The only time I've used the term "fursecution" in my entire fucking life, is when you just went there and rewrote a quote on me. This isn't *TEASING* and you know it. Maybe as soon as sims stop being crashed by "spirit bombs" and "Hand of God", I'll take it as "teasing".

You've regularly exuded the attitude of "omg we're so picked on and downtrodden and no one understands us, waaaaaaah". That is the hallmark of the "ZOMG FURSECUTION" attitude.
Talking about paradigm shifts and essentially stating that furries will be exterminated by SomethingAwful's awesome reach and control over (apparently) everything - you don't see how that REEKS of the very thing you claim not to be doing? It's not an issue of whether or not you've used the word, it's an issue of whether or not you espouse the attitude and philosophy.

At least I just "exuded an attitude" that was a "hallmark" of another attitude. Did you get made fun of in debate class, as well as "for having red hair at 25 years old" ?
