From: Spooky Caligari I frequent Taps as well as SL. And every time I mention SL when I'm on Taps, I get moans and groans from people. Dunno what the big stigma is, as I have a blast in both places. textual purists. Like people who swear by film cameras because digital ones will steal your soul.

From: Spooky Caligari I frequent Taps as well as SL. And every time I mention SL when I'm on Taps, I get moans and groans from people. Dunno what the big stigma is, as I have a blast in both places. That happens in other games too. In There, when I was playing, people would come back "Oh Second Life rocks, it's so cool" etc etc. And your long time There players (heh, including myself for awhile), would be like "oh Second Life. That's the SEX GAME" and then a lot of them would say "So not for me". Now most of them play Second Life pretty exclusively (again, including myself)... I think there's a tendency to be antagonistic towards a new game that you lose a lot of your game buddies to. People tend to be resistant to change. They're happy and comfortable in their gaming universe, and then people leave in droves to go to a new game and they're left having to change. Then they start resenting that new game. *shrugs* It's just a theory ya know?

From: Dalea Kojima I have been to the forest several times but I only saw maybe 10 people (overall!) and trying to get into a conversation with those was not very easy (maybe because they didn't know me and were shy ). Those people are actors ; broke newbies we pay in Linden to stay there and play furries. From: someone So are there some secret underground furry gathering places?
... I am not allowed to tell you ; not here. Between you and me, I could arrange something... But you'll have to wear a blindfold during the trip, obviously. Contact me IW if you are interested (bring a suitcase filled with L$ along).

If you are going to recruit, make sure they have a thick enough skin that they can at least take some teasing about their absurd fandom, k?

Considering you play Second Life, I think that there is a parable about a pot, a kettle, and a color we should all think about. And regardless of whether it IS silly or not to you, calling it absurd is kind of (mildly, mind you) abusive. Pehaps a tad less vitrol, lass?

No problem Alexandra, I'll make sure that anyone I recruit has a good enough sense of humor to let an insult from a shaved ape (not unlike yourself there) roll right off..

Figured you wouldn't be able to resist this one. I hope waves and waves of furries pile into SL and take up residence on all sides of you.

Just for the record, according to Kale
The LAST thing we want is furcadians on SL.
Have you MET them?
EDIT: I realize this sounded horridly anti-furry. This is not the case. Kale IS a furry. Just by my experience, people from furcadia are mostly young, immature, rude, annoying, and decidedly NOT furry.
Case in point:
Hallu: TLC? Hallu: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Hallu: AAAAAAAHA Chica: Damn right. Go To Hell: BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA Chica: Their old stuff is good. weed fiend shoots Go To Hell in the face Hallu: AHAHA. Hallu: I remember their first song.. Hallu: Don't go chasin' waterfalls. LISTEN TO THE RIVERS AND THE LAKES LIKE YOU USED TO

Heh, first time I have seen this thread. :) And yes, that is my VCL page... thank you thank you, I'll be here all week... try the veal, its on special... thank you! My posts to VCL and the fur.erotica newsgroups probably recruited quite a few furs into SL. Am I a shameless pornographer? Most would agree but there is indeed method to my madness. The average furry likes pr0n, sorry but its true. With that in mind, nothing gets a furry's attention quicker than free food and pr0n:) Once seeing the avatars and that virtual sex can be taken to the next level, they are much more interested in the game as opposed to seeing some fat cartoon cowboy hand flowers to his sweetie in the old SL trailer. I had seen SL long before I joined and thought how utterly boring and went on. It wasn't until I had seen clips of Second Life actually being played by furries on an internet broadcast. It was G rated and sex wasn't even hinted at. It was the avatars that drew me into the game, the fact you could be anyone or anything you wanted. Now, when people ask me about the game, if not the first at least in the first 5 questions asked is there sex in the game so it tells me it is high in most folks' minds whether they participate or not. It's a natural question. I figured if sex could entice them in, it could make the chore of learning the game and getting through the awkard adolesence we all go through a bit easier to take. Once they are in the game and soon find it isn't a mass orgy and that they have to either buy or build their avatar, interact with others to learn to do things, begin to make things to sell and maybe build a homestead or club or whatever. In addition, if they learn not to be jerks and how to socially interact with others, they may even be lucky to have virtual sex every now and then. Plus its kinda fun to post naughty pics of your avatar. :) Now... for those who think my pictures are responsible for the bad image SL has in the eyes of some furries (and I mean just some) have it wrong and they need to look around more. It wasn't the pics, which are utterly bland in relation to most things furry, it was my mistaken inclusion of a link to the SL website that made me automatically their referer which some very vocal (and later exposed as total asswipes) posters painted me as a dirty, low down dirty skunk out for a dollar. Didn't matter that I told folks that the link let me know they were in the game so I could help them out and that I gave them their first avatar skin and in many cases made custom skins for them or split the referal money. Didn't matter that I used the money to provide a furry hangout and free vendor space. Sigh.. oh well, lesson learned. If you really want brain searing content that will forever change your life, go here I am certainly not the only one. You will never look at a care type bear the same way again. LOL

I'm probably one of the most outspoken non-furry furries there is out there. I wear my avatar because I think its more creative than any human I could come up with. As a fan of cartoons and disney and the such, being a big fat porcupine is also kinda 'cute'. But along with the avatars comes the stereotypical banter. It grows thin very often, but I suppose I bring it upon myself by creating and wearing the avatars. I think that things are better now, though, and that not all people who wear the avatars are viewed as being into the whole porn and sex scene. Most "PG" furries as many of us call ourselves, are very outspoken when it comes to what we don't like to see (namely certain attachments) and hear.
I get along alright with furries who are at the other end of the spectrum. I am not cruel by any means.
I don't know why I got into this, hehe. Maybe it just seems like an appropriate place.

maybe we should all meet up in an area on furcadia and wander around as a group telling of the wonders of SL and converting the 2D believers to the 3D SL way.

Evangaline: Yeah, I know... it gets old pretty quick. You get lumped in with all the wierd fetishes and other hijinx that some furs have done and have been publisized. I may seem like some "evil" guy out to "ruin" the fandom by promoting sex and I am just as bad as anything seen on CSI or whatever but I do have a reason for putting up those pics that is more for your side than for the wierd fetish side.
I figure (I admit it may not work but its worth a try) that if you show furs that aren't too far from the non fur's experience, the may just go "ooh" instead of "ewww". Humans in bodypaint have been getting exposure on the net for a while and sexy tiger and leopard babes have been in magizines like Ivolt and Playboy for years. You will never convince people that furs aren't sex crazed fetishists if all they ever see is splorging forests of redwood-like phaluses, oceans of bodily fluids spraying and countles pictures of Bugs cornholing Elmer. If they see something that isn't too terribly wierd, they may not condem the fandom as a whole so much. Its sort of like a woman wearing a leather catsuit. Its kinda kiny and naughty if Tiffany Fallon wears one, its brain searingly wrong if Barbra Bush wears one... Anime, for some reason, has managed to do this balancing act even though hentai, tenticle porn and "Bondage Fairies" having sex with insects sprang from it.
Anyway, what do I know...

Um, Kathmandu, while I have no problem with the stuff you do. Please... for the love of God... please... don't make it sound like you speak for all... or even a majority... of furries.

All views epressed in any post I make is entirely my own, I speak for no one but myself. My opinions and point of view are entirely my own. If I ever give the impression I am speaking for anyone else or any group, trust me, you read it wrong or I worded it badly. I can no easier speak for furs than I can heard cats. If you think I do, I sincerely aplologize. I am neither gay enough, toony, kinky or interesting enough to even be considered a "real" furry by many in the fandom and have ben told that on several occasions so my opinions tend to mean little anyway.

SL is full of people who have fun creating non-human avatars.
I've seen robots...animals...anime cosplay...even videogame characters (myself included).
Please just respect each other.
Many times I have thought "boy, I really don't understand why you're dressed like that...but I LOVE the fact that you can express yourself like that in SL."
Room enough for everyone here. And freedoms unheard of, to boot.
Take care, -Pathfinder
