While I am sure everyone wants to know whodunnit, please be careful not to start a witch hunt with speculations that could potentionally incriminate the wrong person. Honestly, I doubt we will ever have a concrete answer as to who or why it was done, unless the hacker wants to brag and incriminate themselves. I know the Lindens can't and won't divulge that sort of information.

I have my own theories as to who it was that did it, and even down to the how/why. I'll share if with the Lindens if they ask, but agreed in that let's not make this a witchhunt. Crucifying any individual(s) in public will do little to make things right. A nice private jail cell will work considerably better.

The only way we will probably ever find out who did it is if there is a public trial or some newspaper decides to leak it. Either way.. useless speculation will only hinder any investigation that goes on.

I almost feel sorry for the others who might be running hacked clients, because the Lindens are going to be running one heck of a fine-toothed comb through the code in search of the culprit.

Why wouldn't they tell us? They've likely already denied them access to their existing accounts. A list of av names (no real life information needs to be shared) would reassure me that I had, or had not, encountered the culprits, talked with them, worked with them, et cetera.

Surely they'll publish a list at some point for the good of the The Community. They're all about building the confidence and esteem of The Community. Who would they be protecting by not telling us?

I've heard that it was a group of people using the exploit and a single avatar, named (edited), published the information after becoming angry at LL.

Just because someone is a member of the Group, and is using an exploit, does not mean the entire Group would be using it.

Put it this way: Those exploiting have been banned. That isn't everyone in W-Hat.
