Do you find the Forums Disgusting?

Personally i Find the most Disgusting thing about the forums is how People tastlessly laugh at noobs for purchasing their lindens from them , even calling them suckers! Furthermore that the same people who complain that there is no longer good events and game content for noobies are also the same people who boast that the noobs will never actually have input innto the game of forums cause the Old and Tired (the people been here longer) rule them both.

Yes they are disgusting. People rip each other to shreds verbally, which is horrible and because I disagree so much with some people's posts I find myself responding the same way.

Time to exit the forums I think.

Just to be fair, I find that most online communities share this ugliness. The funny thing is that, for me, having come from FPS clans and MMO-games, this community is by FAR the nicest that I've encountered. I'm not sure what that should mean to some of you, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

That said, the forums of every game look ugly once middling-to-major changes are rolled out. I can't tell you how quickly the Planetside forums went from bad to worse every time a balance-pass was made. Yucky stuff.

For my part, I'm going to eat some cake. Because cake is yummy.

What I see on forums is a debate going on about upcoming changes in a virtual world that are about to be implemented by the company (Linden Lab) who, let's face it, has ultimate control over Second Life.

Yes, where exactly did you see this? I don't appreciate having words put in our collective forum mouth.

As for your second point- Could you rephrase that? I have trouble finding your train of thought in that horrible sentence structure.

I've been reading virtually all of the threads and I haven't seen a single person rip newbies to shreds or make fun of the poor or blah blah blah (with a few exceptions for people who are just always asses to everyone). Being disagreed with is not an attack. It's simply being disagreed with. What I have seen a great deal of is threads like this poll making accusations about established players being uncaring assholes, general fear-mongering, attempts to create a kind of class warfare that doesn't actually exist, and people casting themselves as victims when they have not in any way been victimized. This thread is a classic example of all of the above.

What you're missing there is the context of that thread. It was satire created after a new player posted a lot of long-winded rants about SL's "feted inner core" and trying to create a kind of class warfare. David's post was humor. It was not meant to be taken seriously.

I've seen far more posts to the contrary. Long time vendors getting ripped by newcommers profiting from their previoius work - by exploit, shameless copying or what have you.

I rarely meet mean people in SL. I've been to a few, mostly text based communities that take profound pleasure in roasting newbies in a pot and looting them of all valuables. In SL, newbies tend to be generally swamped with gifts and invited to be everyone's best friend. I don't come to the forums much generally, but compared to most forums I do visit, there's a whole lot less nastiness here.

I think the Lindens do a pretty good job in monitoring these forums, and most people seem to behave as the adults we are all supposed to be (though there's those nasty rumors that some are actually 12 year olds wearing their daddy's credit card). As with life, in the forums, if you don't like someone, you don't really have to talk to them, and if you do, knowing that they're cantankerous and vile, especially, you are setting yourself up for an unpleasant experience. And, upon knowing that said troglodyte is only in your presence to ruin it, you can hence ignore them. We all have control over who can ruin our lives online, pretty much - unlike life sometimes.

I gave my answer to my own question because I think it is the right thing to do. The thread is not about the responses to my answer. This thread should be about what each person finds disgusting about the forums.

I find it disgusting when a person has nothing better to do than to bitch about a persons grammar and actually judge their level of success by their sentence strucure. Get over yourslef and stop proving the Ass hole theory point on my thread.

I personally find those kinds of generalizations to be every bit as offensive as what you're complaining about.

Ahkin, you posted a link to a joke thread. The only thing to prove with that link is the lack of a sense of humour.
