A Guide to Societies within Second Life:
Oldbies - Born between 2000 B.C. and Oct. 2003 - Ultimate Power in Second Life. They control all aspects of both the forums and in-world activities, with several real world governments under thier control, the most influencial being Iceland and Tonga. Philip Linden is a puppet under thier direct control. Weaknesses: Unable to adapt quickly to new fads, fear of AV sex, and dwindling population numbers.
Midbies - Born between Oct. 2003 and April 2004 - Some influence within Second Life and forums, usually centering on individuals that are able to imitate oldbie behavior consistantly. They've seen some of the old stuff, and have adapted well to most of the new stuff. They have influence with a few Lindens, and can sometimes influence trends within Second Life. Weaknesses: Relatively small numbers, feeling of inadequacy, and thralls to oldbies.
Newbies - Born between April 2004 and Present date - Practically no influence in-world even with a large population ratio, except in small communities and circles, mainly clubs and covens. They can extend thier influence for brief periods of time through fresh ideas, invention, griefing or rabid posts. They are known to breed like rabbits. They have no clue as to the roots of SL, nor do they care. Weaknesses: Linden aggrevation, overwhelmed easily, menu challenged and often hunted by oldbies for thier fur.

/me wonders if David had joined in May of '04, would his taxonomy have pegged "Newbies" as "anyone who joined after July of '04"?

<--- Feels happy tat he doesn't fall into the clique. ^_^ From: someone - Practically no influence in-world I beg to differ. I make birds well. I make birds VERY well. From: someone - Extend thier influence for brief periods of time through fresh ideas, invention, griefing or rabid posts I like fresh ideas and invention, I hate griefing and rabid posts. :> From: someone - No clue as to the roots of SL, nor do they care. I don't have a "big" clue as to the roots but I do care. ^^ From: someone - Linden aggrevagtion Pshoo. I've always been on their side. From: someone - Overwhelmed easily Overwhelmed only by forum drahma and sound spammers in the WA. But that's what "Don't read the forums for a day or two" and "Mute Audio" is for. From: someone - Menu challenged Quack? I know the menus by heart. I'll have a single hamburger without onions, a small fries, a basket of chicken fingers (with sweet'n'sour sauce), and a small Coke. From: someone - Often hunted by oldbies for thier fur. I have feathers, and though I've often been hunted, it's usually for hugs. Most humans are inheritantly cuddly critters... if they are smart enough to wear oven mitts/asbestos suits.

I refuse to be classified as a n00b. Yea I got here in June but I was approved for beta in 03 but didn't have good nuff hardware at the time LOL Plus I got boatloads of VR experience otherwise so I am like a "neo-n00b" at least LOL

From: Unhygienix Gullwing /me wonders if David had joined in May of '04, would his taxonomy have pegged "Newbies" as "anyone who joined after July of '04"? Naw..I'm still a newbie at heart. And I fall into the mid-range of midbies with my classifications. But I can nod my head solemly and go on and on about the "good old days when AV sex involved an alpha textured box and a motorcycle sit pose" and fool newbies into thinking I'm an oldbie.
