I agree Ahkin. Perfect example.....look at a couple of the reply's to this thread. Some people are so quick to be defensive, bitter and out right cruel to one another in forums. More people might participant in forums if they felt they could express their opinions without being crucified. I rarely participate because harsh debating doesn't interest me.
SL is a community where every single person has one thing in common. We all enjoy playing Second Life for one reason or another. We should be a team, work together, listen to one another...not rip each other apart.

You are acting thin skinned, Not me. I am stating what i see. And there are plenty off other threads that prove my point. All people have to do is keep reading and its clearly there. What you have done to my Thread is a prime example. They will see CHip- your pattern as it is here in all threads. Hurry - A new one is starting --- go get it!

From: someone Do you find the Forums Disgusting?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally i Find the most Disgusting thing about the forums is how People tastlessly laugh at noobs for purchasing their lindens from them , even calling them suckers! Furthermore that the same people who complain that there is no longer good events and game content for noobies are also the same people who boast that the noobs will never actually have input innto the game of forums cause the Old and Tired (the people been here longer) rule them both.
your turn... I don't exactly agree with your viewpoint above, but I do see a lot more disrespect & condescension in some posts than I'd like. But this is something common of forums in general - I don't think it says anything about the SL population. I'm also of the opinion that the forum posting community isn't an accurate representation of the SL community at large - it’s hard to get an accurate feel for what "the majority of SL players" feel just by reading the forums. I can't tell you how many customers I get every day that upon hearing of the latest news posted in the forums respond with "What forums?". Reading the forums only gives you a feel for how *forum participators* feel about a given issue. Travis

I think Ahkin Pierce got the people in the forum confused with the old SL'ers in the IRC Chatroom *kidding* I actually like the forum because a lot of people speak out, even though they are all talking about the same thing in 20 different threads Eddie

I think the forums don't serve their purpose as it doesn't seem possible to discuss very much on here. Interestingly I've never met most of the personalities actually in world - I presume they do actually play - maybe they all have islands to keep away from the great unwashed? One good thing is that I've learnt who *not* to buy from in game. Not scammers etc but rude, obnoxious US nationalists - I'm not giving any of you a penny

Some people in the world are sadly more interested in stomping forth and TRYING TO DROWN OUT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS WITH HOSTILITY OR PERHAPS UTILIZING PSEUDOMULTIFACTED, BALLASTED STRINGS OF "ELOQUENT" TERMINOLOGY instead of... instead of... instead of...really sitting down, shushing, and listening to the other person. *sighs and smiles softly*

Deeply saddened...
01-12-2005 10:51
Since I have heard about the changes, I have had a rude awakening.
At 1st I was very upset to think that SL could do the same type of thing that There had done and lost people for. (Myself included, as I don't spend nearly as much time in There any more and I definitely do not spend any more RL $ in).
Then after I witnessed a truly ugly display of people attacking each other at an impromptu talk about the changes - I then just didn't care about the changes. Now it was bigger than “I am loosing $ and my SL job”.
Now...after reading some of the entries in forums...I have to say I feel very awkward about being a resident now. I do love the community & the game. I love what you have the potential of doing in SL, however, I have seen a community that I have know to be so beautiful to one another turn so ugly so quickly and over money.
I just hope SL makes it through all this. I hope I make it through all this and my friends. I do however still feel very awkward now. Anyone else feel the same?
I will still continue to go to events I think are worthy – and if they charge for it then I will make that decision. I will continue to do events myself when possible to help bring fun to the community. That’s really all I can say for now.

LOL...of all the threads you make an example of, it's my little attempt at humor. And the funny thing is, I've gotten my ass bit more than a few times in the forum in the past, trying to argue for newbs and those that embrace the pure social aspects of SL.
The forums can be harsh. I've seen quite a few biting and harsh comments made, particularly in the last few days, but the forums also aren't SL. They are just a very small portion of residences that like to bounce things around.
I will disagree with Chip and say that there have been many mean and smug and rude comments made to newbs in the past couple of days, but I'm far to lazy to dig through the posts and copy them all. But again, it's the forums and not SL.
While I don't like rudeness, hate arrogance and dispise bullies, I still realize a thick skin is needed on the forums if your gonna argue or debate in them.
There is no secret order of Oldbies. How could anyone in SL have any power over you other than a Linden. And while some Lindens may be more willing to listen to residence that have been around a long time and that they are familiar with, LL certainly doesn't want to alienate newbs to any great degree. That would be very bad business.
If an Oldbie comes up to you in-world and starts harassing you or being arrogant, feel free to mute them, ignore them, tell them it's not appreciated, explain why you think they are dickweeds, or give them the finger. They have no power over you at all.
Oldbies, Midbies and Newbies...we are all just people, and we are all customers. You have freedom of choice and no one holds your leash (unless you are into that sort of thing).
Edit: I was forced to say these things to save my SL family, who are being held hostage in the secret Oldbie base deep beneath Federal! The conspiracy is true! THat post ewas all fact..not humor!!

That's the impression you give yourself of this place. It'll only change once when your approach is changed. Because not many here will bend over to make things pleasant for you. I joined these forums knowing that people here readily disagree with one another and daily give each other reality checks. That's what drew me here. I liked the lack of coddling and kissing of ass. So posts complaining of whatever harshness or condescending remarks they've read, just exasperates me. It's like walking into the playground and whining when someone kicked sand in your face. Yeah, that sucks. But there are just so many more interesting reactions to that than to whine. Like stuff more sand in your mouth and blow it back in the kid's face.

From: Lash Xevious Grow a spine, thicken the skin, and for fuck's sake, don't come here and chastise the rest of us. heh heh heh heh heh heh He gets to say what he wants. Even if he's wrong. And yes, there's been mean and ugly and nasty things said about n00bs on this forum and inworld. But that's life and human nature, and entitlement disease is something that longtime residents suffer everywhere, whether it be New York, Tokyo, Paris, Preoria, Everquest, or Second Life. Generally people I've met in SL are polite and helpful, if a little too wrapped up in themselves and a little too blind to new talent. Oh, and the forums are an exaggeration of everything else. As you would expect. Deep breaths help. And rum. edited to add the last

I've dissagreed with a bunch of people today and yesterday and didn't get my ass chewed. Instead, I received throughtful responses to what I posted, even if alot didn't agree. Kudos to you guys. Arguing a point without getting personal is an art and not everyone can do it.

This thread really was meant for a person to just list what he or she finds disgusting about the forums. Wasn't meant for everyone to defend what said in another post. The examples in the poll are clearly for fun.
