My question is...Can you guys recommend a compromise? IS there a way I can get what I want while Taco gets what HE wants? Yeah I got one compromise -- and I'm only half/joking about it too: llPushObject Whack that on a sensor with 90m range -- that should get your point across pretty nicely! Pixels or not, read the TOS. Every TOS on the Internet states that that it is not permissable to upload or transmit sexually harrassing material, hate speech, and other illegal things. As far as I've seen, there are photos in this "art piece" that can be identified without doubt who the subject is. Which makes it sexual harrassment. Pixels? So I guess they're just words too, eh? _____________________

Brilliant exhibit, accidentally or otherwise.
I feel like I should go work on an "internal organs of famous avatars" exhibit, now. In a world where everybody has x-ray glass though, I think we can't expect any privacy of the 'avatar body'. However - it is harrassment if you can see avatar faces. Singling out people like that is very annoying. _____________________

I know your issue Aimee. I just don't agree with your beef, as I feel it's an arbitrary one. We can debate ethics until we're all blue in the face; it won't change much. Some believe your display to be important and socially-meaningful art. Others believe it to be a big joke. I don't care. The question is so much more simple: Why should people associate with someone who's behavior they find objectionable? You've been taking these kind of pics for most of a year. Aimee, I, and others have asked you not to. If you insist on taking and using my image without permission, I will do everything possible to make that more difficult. |

In RL, I knew an artist who was just starting out. He had an exhibition and a national magazine ran a picture of one of his pieces. He's suing the magazine because he didn't give "written permission" that they could display his artwork. I ask you, is this logical? No. Wouldn't he, as an artist who was just starting out, WANT a piece of his artwork in a national magazine? Yes. Does any of this make any sense? NO! My point is that even if it doesn't make sense -- say, someone taking a picture of Taco's lawn -- the person who took the picture could still get some heat. Perhaps Taco would have to prove that the person who took the picture was in some way profiting from it. Taking pictures for personal use is, perhaps, ok -- providing it doesn't violate anyone's privacy (a whole 'nother can of worms) -- but showing it to OTHER people in a public manner is questionable. As a real world photographer I think I can comment on this a little. Even though there are still some fuzzy areas even for us. Those photos are still his property. They may hold the proofs. This does not give permission to publish with out his consent. It would be like if I gave you my car keys. It does not mean I gave you the right to driver my car. The general rule of thumb in photography is if it's for your own use. You are generally safe from lawsuit. For example you took a photo of the Washington Momument and a stranger got in the shot. If you sell that photo. You better have a release. Side note: Most legit places will not even buy the shot with out seeing the release you have on file. Exceptions is news photography and if the subject can be indentified. In the issue up skirts. People know me by my face and not my vagina. I think his photos fall into this catagory. On the other hand I don't know the rest of you very well and people may know you by your vagina rather than your face . Rox |

I didn't know until he gave me the pic. When I saw the much to do about nothing on this. I went over and asked him to take another one. As other people have said. This is make believe. Actually, prospective peeptographers can just copy this text right now, and in 2 keystrokes (ctrl-v) be done with the whole issue. Any takers? Or are you holding out for 1 keystroke? -aimee |
