yeah, gap of interest as well as a difference in how men and women think (and what they learn growing up) - men being more visual and technically/mathematically inclined than women, etc. But now with computers being so common in homes these days, girls are being brought up on them as much as boys, so they're getting the dose of visual processing as much as boys.
And yeah, I've spoken more to Neil recently than to you - he's been showing me his new build with all the cool baked textures. He invited me over the other day to take another look, but I was too busy at the time. I'll have to come by soon.

As we have been bumped ...
I live in SE England with my son and two cats. One cat is a Bengal, and can be a handful - he's already managed to flood the house.
I'm very old - I tend to keep quiet about how old I am, but give me another decade and I will start boasting about it!
I've had a chequered career, and have been in my time a freelance writer of fiction, a computer programmer (people who know my inability to script might wonder at this, but my languages are BASIC and COBOL - I told you I was old), and I am a semi-professional (or quasi-professional) musician.
I have two children, a son and a daughter and two grandchildren. I am currently involved in local politics, and am an elected member of my local unitary council.
I have a houseful of books, but these days don't read anything and instead spend all my spare time on my computer.

May as well hop on the end here... Name's Ian, I'm 25, and work as a games programmer in Birmingham. Hobbies... hmm. SL (*grin*), computing in generaly, being a stealthgoth, and more than a passing interest in cars (though I don't have the dough to support that. Yet). No significant others of either the same-gen or next-gen variety. (Thankfully - mates of mine have started breeding and it's worrying. )

My turn, adding to the UK contingent: My name is also Ian, I'm 36, married with no kids and no cats, and I work in IT (but not a programmer!). I live in Devon, southwest England and my hobbies include gaming, music, and good food/wine. I'm a Taurean, love cheese...and have no idea why I chose Charlton as my SL name, except that I loved the surname Pendragon

I'm 34, married with two cats, living in Maryland in between Chip Midnight and Washington D.C. I got a B.A. in French literature, then focused on my true geekiness and taught myself programming at a start-up. After that failed, I spent 97 to 01 in Silicon Valley (crash not my fault), which was cool, but the only thing in Sunnyvale, CA that I miss is Fry's. Now I work for a former business partner on things he finds interesting, which currently means digital motion capture of Aikido. So I've learned how to use 3DSMax and am now taking drawing classes to get more into the creative side of 3D. I have a pool table and I drink a lot of red wine and whisk y. I like Renaissance fairs, sci-fi conventions, movies, books, and other nerdy things. Why do I feel like I just placed a personal ad, even though I didn't mention poetry or long walks on the beach?

Chip is a famous figure in Maryland for being the only person ever to run the length of the C & O canal naked and backwards. As you can imagine, his home has become something of a local shrine and a well known landmark.

Well, it's more of a civil union, really.
EDIT - with the cats, that is. I'm legally married to my wife, I swear.

So I don't know how I missed this thread but here goes,
My name is Nanci and I live in Suburban Essex County NJ. For those of you who HAD a RL and used to watch TV, Tony Soprano is my neighbor. Alas & aalck, I am WAY at the top of Philips famous 35-50 womens group of players (even a little over OK). I have a fairly functional family with one lovely grown daughter who lives & works in Manhattan, a charming husband, a sideways fish & a cocker spaniel who lords over it all. (name of KC in case Neph is reading)
Now here is the SHOCKER... READY In real life, I was a major event planner for over 20 years... It isn't just dazzling natural know how.
I am retiring now from the wholesale flower business for the first time in my RL and so happy to have SL to give me tons of things to do. (Which I did already)
I am just in love with my SL and all my terrific friends... Thanks New York Times for bringing SL to my world.

Hello, I am Annie and new to SL. I spent a lot of the past three years in a place called D'ni. Anyone ever hear of it? The other day while in SL I saw a person run past me whose name started with "D'ni VIP Andrew..." so I'm guessing there are some other former D'ni explorers here as well. I'm a fledgling film buff, new Bay Area dweller, and unemployed website designer, producer, maintainer and such. Oh, and I'm a grandmother. Ha.

Howdy! Nice to meet y'all!
I'm Vince, I live in Plano, Texas and teach English as a second language at the high school level. I speak Chinese as a second langauge, which is handy...in Plano, Chinese make up the second largest ethnic group besides Gringos, and it's helpful for our department to have someone who speaks that language.
My background and education is in art. I mastered in painting and then spent nearly four years in Taiwan learning Chinese, teaching English to Chinese people and teaching myself photography. When I returned to the States I worked as a photographic assistant, and then as a newspaper photographer. I've now been teaching high school for about six (or seven?) years and I'm 40 years old.
For the moment, Second Life is my hobby, but I'm nuts about webdesign and graphic design. I've always been interested in art and architecture, and SL gives me a means to work with some of those interests.
I'm not married, but am begining to date an amazing woman...and a photographer at that.
Vince

No kids (the short ppl scare me). I share my rl with Mark Roark who is a member of SL and we live with two crazy cats and some personable parrot fish named MiMi and Drew oh ya Pepples too. Im a shutterbug, doodler and huge music fan. I own a guitar that belonged to my mother who played gospal music and I also have an ovation. I drive a jeep and love to 4wheel and play in the mud. He has a degree in electronics and I admire his knowledge.

Heh, I have read this thread for what is it? 4 months now and still haven't posted, oh well here it goes . Hi! I'm Aaron (not to be mistaken for Erin). I'm 20, turning 21 in May! Yay! I live in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I am an undergraduate student getting a degree in Computer Programming. I am single, sorry girls, not interested . I still live with my parents. I have two brothers, an older brother and an identical twin (no, his name is not Darren). I work for a "wonderful" *dripping with sarcasm* retailer people will be familiar with. Hint: Just look for the large red letter between J and L . *sigh* I need a life. Good thing I have a second one.

Can't resist the urge to jump on the bandwagon so here goes. My real name is Melanie (but everyone calls me Mel--if you see me inworld and don't wanna type out "Timber", just call me Mel ), I'm 30 but so close to 31 at this point that I might as well say I'm 31. I'm married with two kids (daughter 9, son 3) in South Carolina. I also have two dogs who constantly "argue" about everything. Who gets to drink out of the water bowl first, who gets a treat first, who gets to bark at the squirrel in the backyard first...needless to say, with them and the kids it's not very quiet around here. I'm a writer with a few short stories published and a novel in the works, which means I don't make much money at it. Yet. In my spare time, which I don't have much of since discovering SL, I am a major bookworm and a total movie fanatic.
