Lewis I am curious as to how you can bring these two concepts into mutual agreement:

1) God is all loving and all forgiving.

2) Believe that Christ is saviour or go to Hell for all eternity and suffer endless pain and suffering.

These two concepts are diametrically opposed to one another. It’s not possible for them both to be true.

And while I am at it I might as well go all the way and ask you which of these two bible passages is correct and which is wrong. (It's impossible for them both to be correct):

MATTHEW 27:1-10

and

ACTS 1:18-19


I then ask you to explain to me how I can identify which other verses in the New Testament are wrong as well. That way I will know which I can ignore.

And before you start, I am not attacking you or your beliefs. I am simply asking legitimate questions in a polite manner.

If they don't like, that's fine. But if they want to talk to him about it they can do so in a polite manner. I imagine he would welcome polite conversation regarding his beliefs, since he is publically announcing them in his profile.)

I have a problem with Christians just like I have a problem with Nazis.
You might say they arn't even close to being the same but I think they are exactly the same.
The Nazis killed those who they felt didn't belong in their world and this is historical. If you wanted to become a Nazi no one will like you and even hate you because of what the Nazis stood for regaurdless OF PAST EVENTS AND WHETHER YOU HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!

Christians is history kill many millions because of race and religion yet we're supposed to forget about it beacuse hey that's the past and YOU DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!
Christian don't even fallow their own God, thier god created, Christians stifle creativity (most but not all). Their God made mankind and then allowed them free choice but Christians would have all of us under total control.

My opinion: I was born into a christain home and went to church all my childhood. But I hated how my lifestyle was constantly being bashed. Seamed like every other sunday my pastor came up with more and more reasons why homosexuality was evil... Nobody can help being born something like that. Who are these people to say what god likes and dislikes? If God didn't like it why did they create it? Anyway... All the insultive crap drove me away.

I still believe in jesus but in my own way. I know he was real. There is proof. I know he was a healer. People loved him for that. But this was in a day where man was very primative and easily mislead. The bible was written by man with how they comprehended things back then. I'm not saying its fake... Just they couldn't have got it perfect. And the bible has been rewritten a few dozen times... New Translations tend to change the story if youve noticed.

This is where ignosticism comes in. It simply doesn't make sense. All of it doesn't make any more sense than the stuff one of my late aunts used to think. She'd cover the floor in newspapers to "protect against radioactive dust", would say things like "don't put the shoes on the carpet, or they'll explode", and thought the neighbours were shooting at her with lasers or something through the walls.

When presented with that kind of thing, there's no way to even begin discussing it rationally. Hence the position of ignosticism: First come up with something that makes sense, then we can talk about it.

I bet if we all decided to read the bible we will find out how wrong some of these christians are. Getting our own view of the bible will give us a better understanding of the real story. No matter how many times its been rewritten and translated. Atleast we would be able to defend ourselves.

Well stated, and I definitely agree. That said, I don't think it's a good idea to take any philisophical ideas and declare them immune to dissent or discussion. When you have people claiming that religious thought is sacrosanct and at the same time using it as the basis for legislation that's a very dangerous combination, and it's unfortunately a fact of life in this country.
