Westboro Baptist = nutjobs picketing funerals.
Julie Banderas (of Fox News) looses it while interviewing Shirley Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church.
*Quite* entertaining.

The interviewing reporter needs to learn how to interview, and not badger. I think it made Fox look terrible.

Considering the circumstances, I think she was fair. No she was not. As a news gathering reporter, it's not her place to judge or argue with those whom she is interviewing. She must be objective as a reporter. Nothing was gained by having a shouting match with the one being interviewed |

Oh come on, FOX is endlessly judgemental. In this case I agree with them. Give the Phelps bigots hell.

If we have learned anything about fighting bigotry, it's that we fight hatred with love, not more hatred. People tend to feel sorry for the one being verbally abused, especially when the purpose of the abuse is focused on the religious beliefs of that person. If the interviewer had just allowed the person to say what she believed, the viewers could have judged without her help. All she did was make it hard to hear. |

When Godzilla and Mothra are rampaging through Tokyo, does it really matter which one is the good guy?

Sorry, but Ms. Phelps was dishing it out as well, including preaching her hatred. Just be glad these two women weren't in the same building. _____________________

Kevn, I really, really doubt that anyone but people who already believed as she did felt ANY sympathy.

I do agree that the interviewing process would have been much more humiliating for the Westboro "Church" if she had remained calm and answered their rhetoric with some sharp but subtle questions. The best interviewer makes the interviewee say "I AM AN IDIOT!!!" several times, loudly, without having the interviewee know they are saying it. ==Chris |

I don't blame her for losing her cool, but it wasn't, by any means, a piece of masterful reporting. I do admire her for not letting a four-letter word slip out though, even while she was frothing at the mouth. _____________________

That Westboro witch said one thing I agree with: Evil must be confronted, loudly and under no uncertain terms. This is what the interviewer did, and she did it well. I've had the chance to speak out to Phelps himself, and to the so-called "national director" of the KKK. I personally believe there is a moral imperative to speak bluntly to these people, to tell them what you believe. That doesn't necessarily mean screaming or hysterics, but there should be no tip-toeing around it, either. _____________________

If the interviewer had just allowed the person to say what she believed, the viewers could have judged without her help. All she did was make it hard to hear. While I personally do think it's time for news reporting agencies to stop and remember the days when they still believed in remaining neutral and strictly reporting.... A) The woman was picketing funerals for cryin out loud, no one is feeling sorry for her anytime soon. B) If you pay closer attention to the video, in it the "religious" woman was calling the reporter a bimbo and telling her she was going to hell. I'd hardly call her an innocent victim. They were both giving as good as they got. One was emotional, the other was fanatical.... They both lost it. C) It was still dammed entertaining. ![]() EDIT: Those other two reporters did a pretty good job of making the Phelps woman look like a lunatic. _____________________

If we have learned anything about fighting bigotry, it's that we fight hatred with love, not more hatred. And yet you still believe that gay people shouldn't be allowed to marry. _____________________
