Ok, Here is the Deal.

SL Forums are getting pretty large, and I an unable to donate enough time to follow all the forums here. I started this thread to keep track of the good juicy day to day forum drama that I might miss.

So please, post any real drama thread links here in this thread, so we may keep an eye out for the drama.

Also, will help us update old dramas if they kick up again (like a Dogspot/Nolan or Aimee/Prok flare up) and of course keep track of new (especially if they wander from thread to thread).

Really show your nose for drama by predicting drama before it develops into a full blown episode. Please, do not post threads in which Coco and Enabran get into it, otherwise this thread will read like a forum site map...

So thats it, keep track of drama and post some minor commentary that would disrupt the drama in the original thread. Like scientists studying the natural habitat, we want to be sure not to disturb or influence the drama in its own habitat, so discuss the drama here and leave the originating thread untouched.

As with any post mentioning SL's most (in)famous real estate baron by name, there is drama on the AC Wikipedia Thread, but the drama is actually made up of a series of misunderstandings, with 2 normally good natured Midnights locking horns. Also worth following is AC's apparent #1 fan whose hobby seems to be editing Wikipedia re: SL. Developing...

LF ruffled some feathers with his humble request, including kM, whose response ruffled the feathers of others. This seems to be the calm before the storm, I expect some serious drama to develop over this one.

Also, the range of people influenced by a FIC type mentality in a congratualatory thread has rconcerned the talented MM, and the dialog is bordering on the edge boiling over. Is there proof of a conspiracy?

I am sure they is other tasty drama I have missed, so please be dilligent in your reporting.

And remember, do not disturb the specimins we are studying!

Yeah, those Coco/Enabran dust-ups are a yawn.

My prediction for forum drama to come (glad you asked, cause this prediction has been on my mind for days):

The GOMing of SL Exchange and other shopping sites.

What we have brewing up toward this drama is the sale of SLBoutique by Flipper to Electric Sheep Company, with Flipper still remaining a part of SLBoutique.

We also have Satchmo, an officer of the for-profit private business Electric Sheep Company, who enjoys under his own name an educational partnership with SL, which includes an "educational discount on private islands for educators." In this case that would probably be Sheep Island, used by the Electric Sheep Company.

At the same time, the for-profit business Electric Sheep Company, of which Satchmo is an officer (as well as being at the same time an educator enjoying the discounts awarded to educators) announces on its website that it is working in partnership with LL to create better tools for LL. (This in addition to working on contract for anyone who wants them to make content in SL.)

And as icing on the cake, Satchmo has also been made a resmod of the forums, in a position of authority over the rest of us.

So here we have one outfit involved in a multitude of things:

. receiving discounts on land through its educator member
. running SLBoutique for profit
. creating tools for LL to use, in partnership with LL, that will improve access to websites and SL businesses
. providing for-profit SL services to outside companies
. with one officer resmoding the forums

Just one group, doing all these things, my my!

Add 'em up and put 'em all together. What does it spell? The GOMing of SLExchange.

Because Electric Sheep Company is in bed with the Lindens in a number of (clearly conflicting) ways, and SLExchange isn't.

You know what they say, vice is nice, but incest is best.

Even if it's not the GOMing of SLExchange, many months of drama to come are guaranteed by the myriad conflicts of interest inherent in the Electric Sheep Company's relationship with LL.

"in bed with..." is a phrase used to imply that elected officials are breaking the law by giving private companies special privledges with taxpayer money.

"joint-venture" is what companies do when they want to do projects with other companies.

"incest" is about sex or inappropriate touching between family members

How is any of that a conflict of interest for LL? ESC is an independent company, just like LL is. If two companies do business together, how is that conflict of interest?

I'd imagine there are a number of educators that also run businesses in SL. Are you saying they can only do one or the other?

SLBoutique for profit - well, what do you want them to do, run it at a loss? A non-profit shopping site?

Creating tools for LL to use, in partnership with LL: sounds like LL is subcontracting work out to me. Happens all the time. If ESC has the manpower and the ability, and LL wants to pay them to add features that enhance the SL client, how is that different from LL hiring any other firm?

Providing for-profit services to outside companies: again, what do you want them to do, provide their services for free? There are a growing number of SL-based companies that make money off providing services and content to outside companies. That's their JOB.

One officer resmodding the forums: which he was appointed for, and will shortly end when they bring in the new batch of resmods. Other resmods also run their own businesses. Again, one person can't be both?

You'll have to be a little clearer in your explainations for your theory that ESC and LL are involved in any conflict of interest. Who's interest? Sounds like two companies doing business with each other.

Educators receive discounts on Sims used for education. I currently do not use any full sims for educational projects and do not receive any educational discounts on sims.

I do co-teach a class on Virtual Worlds at the Teachers College at Columbia University this semester. It's a graduate level class for students studying education, and they are very jazzed to be learning about Second Life and brainstorming on ways to use it for education.

Stands as what? As other have pointed out to you - you're inventing a "conflict of interest", and your having been stone-cold wrong about one of your biggest claims to that end supports that idea.

What is your purpose in making unfounded accusations of unethical business practices against ESC and LL? If it was to alert us to abuses, then wouldn't it be good to do some research first and confirm the facts?

You've said elsewhere that you have been published nationally, so you should be well aware that to print something like this in a paper or journal would get you, the editor, and the publisher slapped with either a defamation of character suit, or labeled as a "yellow journalist."

Just because this is an informal setting doesn't grant anyone the license to make unfounded, serious allegations.

Linden Labs working with ESC is exactly like Comcast working with AOL. I may be a customer of a service Comcast provides, but unless I own part of the company, it's none of my damned business who they do joint venture work with.

Unless of course, one is the self-appointed ResMod of these forums. Afterall the self-appointed ResMod is the only one entitled to their opinion, which shall be presented as fact and no one else has an opinion, other than to victimize them.

Coco, this thread is to moniter drama, not to engage in it. I thought I made it clear this was an observational thread, not a drama thread.

And Nolan is the only one who contributed correctly by prognosticating future drama(although that thread has stayed civil thus far)

so please contain all drama in the originating thread in the originating thread

this is a discussion and guide to the myriad of drama SL has to offer

Do I at least get some props for "go pluck yourself"?
