I'm curious as to how many people are either vegetarian, vegan, or ominvores.
I am a vegan by choice, not because I feeel sorry for chickens and cows etc, but because I wished to live a healthier life over all.
For those who don't know, vegan's do not consume anything that comes from animals (cheese, milk, eggs, caviar, etc).
What are you?

Briana Dawson I'm not trying to be nosey, but I was wondering why you chose to cut these items out all together (as its not to do with the animals themselves) rather than just decreasing the amounts, as calcium and protein would be something I would worry about when cutting out all these items.

I am an omnivore for the exact same reason plus one: I want to live a healthier life. Genetically humans are omnivores. Good articles: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4282257.stmhttp://www.ucc.ie/fcis/DHMeatandDiet.htmand a good quote: From: someone There is no nutritional justification for the exclusion of red meat from a balanced low-fat diet. Contrary to popular opinion the level of total fat and saturated fat in the diet of vegetarians is only marginally lower that that if meat-eaters. Vegetarian diets are high in fibre and the iron and zinc present is poorly available. Even with their higher intakes of vitamin C, which aids iron absorption, there is clearly documented higher incidence of low iron status among vegetarian women.

Briana Dawson I'm 31 and spent about 2 years being vegan I loved it, but to a bachlor, it isn't a good idea because You don't really cook single serve portions of whole foods. A meal for 1 costs the same as a meal for 4, only more food waste I can't find my stove or counter I live 1 mile from an In-N-Out burger I do independant contractor work where we get paid 30 min lunches on site where the Hotel/Resort feeds us, and no matter how nice the Resort/Hotel is, they neglect staples such as real lettuce and whole grains and beans. My job, at times, can be extremely labor intensive, so not having the strength to do the job is not an option. My job, at times, can also be extremely mentally taxing . The wrong fuel, and I could get hurt, someone else could get hurt, or the show might not go on in time (or at all). I don't like having to eat every 90 minutes. I would prefer to be vegan (mostly vegan, honey and whey bans are a little excessive, and I could not be a vegan without Tofutti cream cheese and ice cream), but my lifestyle atm isn't a good fit. I did meet a couple a few years back who ate vegan like 4-5 days a week. That would be much more healthy, and I wouldn't freak if I had an Animal Style Double Double With a Neapolitin Shake on the fly once in a while I will say this. When I had the right scenerio to be vegan, I never felt better, was never slimmer, and never had more energy (friends thought I got back on meth). So I do intend to go back to that again someday...

Interesting question - I've just been told that I need to go on a gluten free diet. So I'm going to give it a shot, but it sure is difficult - there seems to be gluten in absolutely everything. Bottom line - don't eat anything that is processed, easier said than done. (not to hijack the thread - but I welcome any suggestions) .

Oh! I have a question for Vegans answering this. Do condoms have some vegan prohibited ingredient? I mean... they're latex right? But I figure if there is something, a vegan would know A vegan I know got his girlfriend of 2 months pregnant and claims it's because vegans can't use condoms/hormonal birth controls... Not just him being an irresponsible git, which is my opinion of it. The hormones I can easily see having -something- in them not cool for them... but condoms?

Yeah, me too, what he said. That, and cows deserve to die.

Speaking of I had lobster for dinner last night.
At home.
Cooking them myself.
I have no sympathy for lobsters..after all they can breathe both air and water (as long as they dip occasionally to wet their gills) but are too stupid to swim to the surface to grab a breathe..they'd rather 'drown' in an uncycled pool of water..

Omnivor. We have canine teeth for a reason. If we weren't supposed to eat meat, we would get sick eating it, like real herbivors do.

Ha Ha - I had a friend bring one back from a trip to SFO and it lived in my fridge for a week until I gave it to my neighbor for their salt water fish tank where it lived for another 3 years because I did not have the heart to cook it. I cooked crabs once and they screamed and tried to get out of the pot and that did it for me, no more home cooking of the crustaceans! (Not that I won't eat them if someone else cooks them - cause I will). .

Well actually, carnivorus creatures have a mouth full of canine teeth and herbivores have a mouth full of flat teeth... Just like humans who have only 4 canine teeth. Briana Dawson

And such exclamations like "If we werent supposed to eat meat..." is pure fallacy. And maybe you don't know this but "real herbivors" like cows and chicken are actually fed a feed mixture consiting of meat and they aren't getting sick. Briana Dawson

Well it started with me wanting to eliminate excess fried foods, and then after thinking abou tit for a while and knowing what types of fat the body can and cannot breakdown made me choose plants. There are all sorts of varying rationals. I genuinely feel better and lighter in my step. I also take multivitamins and a good dosage of B-12 and omega 3. Briana Dawson
