I'm interested. Since on here on the west coast (Seattle) it's pretty inexpensive to get to San Fran.

Originally posted by Robin Linden Thanks for all the great feedback. It's most helpful. Many of you asked why we didn't have the conference in Second Life. Good question, and good suggestion. In thinking through everything we want to discuss and consider, we agree that's the best idea. It allows the widest participation, immediate demonstrations, and we'll still figure out a way to include swag (real and virtual!). Aww there goes my excuse to visit SF! Sorry, Juro! ![]() |

the update is that it's been proven that the software isn't ready to host mass conferencing events. plus, it bolts the primary function of such conferences which is meeting the real people behind the avs.
i'll arrange the time and the money to go to san fransisco for that reason alone. i wouldn't bother to attend an inworld conferance because, frankly, i wouldn't get anything out of it that i don't already have. _____________________

Well, we're not going to have that developer conference in SF this summer, but if you can make it, please join us for a party on July 22! Even if you can't make the party, please go ahead and enter the contest! If you can come, please remember to rsvp so we have your name at the door.

Just a suggestion, Robin...
I'm familiar with San Francisco. I worked as a programmer there for two or three months. Took the BART train from Pittsburg and walked a mile and half from the BART station to the office ... then yet again back. I wouldn't recommend SF, even if it is home for you. Yes, SF is full of culture and it's a great tourist attraction of a place. But it's also overwhelming, crowded, busy, and expensive. You might consider exploring more of California. It is horribly expensive to host events in San Francisco. But for $100 per person, you could instead have half of that money go for a train ride down here to Hanford, and the other half would cover a lot more than anything you'd get in SF @ $100/person! My office rent here is just two blocks from the train Amtrak station, and my rent here is $150/mo, including air conditioning and electricity and water. Heck, at that rate you could say I get the rent for free if I were to pay for the air conditioning! Obviously I'm not wanting you to come to this cramped office LOL ... All I'm saying is that turf is cheaper when you get away from the metropolis. I'm right across the street from a beautiful park w/ a public square and auditorium, and caddy-corner to a FOX Theater, so if you do want to get away from the SF grind, I'd be happy to help you host any events out here. ![]() |

Any RL event is kinda difficult for those who live too far away, if not to say it is practically excluding them. Especially if they don't live in America. I think this should be considered when planning such things. Of course I also don't have good solution...
