First Annual SL Developer's Conference

I'd attend if it were not for the fact that I'm in the UK. As with Damien, anyone want to buy me a plane ticket?

In lieu of RL attendance, in world interaction would be desirable. Or (with imagination running riot) perhaps an event on the UK at the same time, with big screens and video-conference....

Great idea tho :)

Fantastic idea, but like previous posters there's the not-in-US problem. (I just checked, and a boggo economy flight from London's about $800. Ow.)

Some kind of in-world link would be cool, and/or transcripts after the event. I'd like the UK conference idea, funnily enough, but I suspect the numbers aren't quite up to it yet :)

I think this is a great idea, even though I'm fairly certain I personally wouldn't be able to attend. (The travel costs would be prohibitive.) It would be an even better idea if there were also going to be an East Coast conference at another time!

Why not combine it with a resident meet and greet weekend?
The conference is organized by LL and the next day the residents go wild...umm...maybe bad idea.
I would like to come.
One question for this social recluse...what is swag?

There's also an in-the-US-but-not-on-the-West-Coast problem.

I'd be interested it was in the SouthEast, or on the East Coast but South of Washington D.C. But not all the way to the West Coast.

For those in the UK -- if you can get cheap airfare on BA to New York, do that, then take a regional american airline, like jetBlue (www.jetblue.com) to Oakland (San Francisco). Might be a lot cheaper that way.

I would be interested in a world developers' conference. US$100 is certainly not unreasonable. Please keep me posted.

How about holding it in Orlando, FL? Cheap fares there. :D

I would go if I lived closer and/or wasn't moving this summer..

$100 bucks is steep for a single day unless you get dinner and and a T-shirt.

Would be cool to see who's behind those Linden Av's..

I wanna go :-) Anyone wanna offer me a floor to crash on? *winks at Juro ;)*

I vote to hold it on a Saturday so us out-of-towners can have some travel leeway without messing with the work week too much. I would definitely be cool with $100, especially if there was a raffle involved for lifetime memberships.

Some stuff I'd like to see at the convention:

1. Big Screen of an in-world location (4 Corners prolly) where people who can't make it (Rysie!) can Second-conference(tm) with us and be there virtually. Perhaps charge a smaller fee for those people and lock the land to others. Have someone wicked fast at typing typa-cast it to those people in-world.

2. Have someone from ATI in a dunking booth so we ATI card owners can get some agressions out.

3. LSL! Some demos of some wicked cool LSL stuff, deeper in-depth classes on serious scripting would rock.

4. WiFi :D It's prolly a given but we should be plugged in at such a conference. Standard workstations for any hands-on stuff may be keen too.

5. Feature Thinktank. We all sit around going "hey wouldn't it be cool if...". Massive amounts of caffinated beverages and Cheetos are required for this meeting.

6. CHARO! It's not a party without Charo.

Oh well...maybe next year

Goodies.

to Oakland (San Francisco)

You can fly into either. San Francisco tends to have more delays and is more expensive. It also it a fair distance from the city. Oakland is smaller, easier to get in & out of and has fewer delayed (fog, yes, in the summer) flights. You'll have to cross a bridge, but it really isnt farther away than SFO.

I'm down.

LL, can you guys see if you can get us out-of-towners some kind of discount at whatever hotel is closest to the convention center? I assume the $100 is because you're not just having this at the office.

I'm 90% in.

This would seal the deal:

Cross a bridge? Are you talking about DRIVING in San Francisco? Heresy! That's what the BART and MUNI are for!

I would be in depending on when in the summer it is (blasted milestones) and what was covered. I also support the inworld conference idea, but have no problems coming to sf for this one.

$100 per person does not seem unreasonable.

Need date ASAP
04-29-2004 16:40
One more thing, I'm taking courses over the summer. The sooner you can get us a date, the better.

Can you give us a date for when you will give us the date? :)

I would come if I could, but alas I cannot.

I would be willing to pay a fee if I was able to come.

Ideas, how about talking about the future of SL? And some sneak peaks at what LL is working on?

Also what about paying in L$ to attend? :P

Oh and I would definitly like to see photos, a transcript, maybe a recording or video... actually... you could webcast it too! :D

i'd probably be up for it.. honestly i'd really like to go... but dates can be finnicky.. and a plane ticket across the country and back is kinda steep for a one day event... but potentially managable

No Muni in Oak-Town my friend. I was meaning taking a white knuckler (shuttle).

To get to BART from OAK you need to take Air BART (a bus) to get there.

Region Conferences
04-29-2004 19:01
I like the idea of a developer's conference, but if you are really looking for serious attendance/participation, I think that regional conferences make more sense. I'd love to visit Linden Lab one day but am much more inclined to attend a conference if it were on the east coast. Making conferences accessible to a wider range of SL residents and potential residents is an investment in future growth of SL.

...then you guys are the ones who get to travel! ;-P

Oh well.
