Since the last update, everyones face and clothing are blurred, unless I put my cursor over them and keep it there. Hopefully this problem will be fixed.

My prob, my friends and I notice,
is on SOME teleports on and off,
WE'RE arriving, w/ avie shape stunted [almost kiddie avie like] and skin blurred and having to relog, clear cache etc.
Doesn't matter if we've been online 2 mins or 2 hrs or who teleported in when.
Made one person take a pic, seemed normal to my view, but not by others' veiw *yikes*
or the person who is seeing this has to relog, then fine.

I have the same problem. And once I zoom in and hover my mouse over the texture to get it to load, it blurs again after a second or so, which never happened before. See my post here:

I was having this issue for many weeks, although it all textures not just faces and clothing. And if I mouse over them I can get them to rez but then they tend to go blurry. Sometimes they will get sharp then blurry several times. Then a week ago while I was inworld it just started working (I didn't do a thing, textures just started rezing fully like someone fliped a switch and didn't derez/get blurry) and was fine till I cleared my cache last night. Now the issue is back. Seems to be a cache issue (at least in my case), and I suspect it is the same with you as well.

I think it may be related to graphics card. My hypothesis:
If the graphics card isn't meant for handling all the 3d stuff, the rest of the computer tries to make up for it. To keep FPS reasonable, the texture resolution is throttled back, resulting in blurry.
Just my theorey.

Well as I said, it worked fine for a week till I cleared my cache. And the frame rates were the same before and after. So that is not it. For some reason once the texture is in cache it does not want to stay rezed. I have the same video card since I came to SL and people that have much better cards are having the same problem. I am experimenting to see if I can possibly track down the issue.

Also if it was a case of the card reducing resolution, then if you went to area with few textures you should be fine. I still experience this problem regardless.

on my slow computer - I have to click any texture advertisement I want to see clearly - on my fast one - I need to do it also - but not always - depends on the lag - but clicking is sometimes always necessary. nVidia SLI 6800 ultra is made for graphics....and I still have the problem :(

Yeah, textures didn't use to be this way. It's an on going problem that Lindin Labs can't be arsed to fix. Seriously, I've reported the hell out this texture issue and not one of them as said a word about this being a problem. It doesn't matter sometimes how 'good' a card you have. I use both a mac and pc, one with an outstanding card and other one with a crap one. I get the same issue on both. We need better texture caching like we had before 1.7. For the love of god. This should be the most important thing to LL. 'Seeing' is kind of important. Kthnxbye.

I agree it should be one of the highest on the list. But it is a very difficult bug to track down. Some people have it, others don't. And as I found out, it can disappear for a while then reappear later. The Lindens have acknowledged this problem though:

/111/23/118626/1.html

But it still seems to be a issue.

blurry avatars
08-02-2006 14:47
Hey, I've been noticing this problem recently especially with avatars - avatar textures
seem to be *de*rezzing a lot. Don't have the problem so much with prim textures though I don't mind blurriness so much there (and textures sometimes don't seem to load until I click on the object).

So, for a while (I think since the update a week ago but I'm not sure), avatars rez if I focus the camera on them, but unrez and become very blurry immediately afterwards if I look somewhere else. In effect basically everybody looks blurry all the time unless I focus on them now.. :(

I wanted to note that this problem seems to be particular avatars - it might not be the same issue as the ones listed before with textures in general...

Have never had this problem before the past few days. Now it is incessant. Both object and other avi textures derez. My own avi's does not. But it is freaking infuriating. Have cleared cache, manually deleted cache, messed with settings on avi detail. You name it, this is somehow beyond my control.

Mine seems to be behaving a LITTLE better since yesterday's update, but not much. Could be that the asset compression has freed up enough room for textures to load faster than they disappear? There's still obviously a major defect in there though. I think if they could actually figure it out, they might decrease lag enormously because clients would be downloading textures a LOT less frequently. Unless it is a LOD computation on the client-side that is broken....

Ha, they'll just tell you to upgrade your card. Soon you'll need a super computer to rezz textures completely in this game.

took me 1 hour 53 min to rez land texture ;)
something that SHOULD be in SL install folder yes its the default ones.

47 min to rez one 64x128 texture, and about the same with a 1024x1024 texture,

size matters? PFFF not for rezzing/downloading apperantly.

here ill copypaste why
" Heavy strains on asset server "
just copy this into linden forum in a few hours :>

hirrr... aw i wish this would be able to handle all the new people, sure so slow it feels like im using the pc i had 2 years ago.

I also have been wondering if does have to do with LOD, since the problem first appeared after LL changed it several updates ago (1.10.something). But if that was the reason it would not explain my situation where it was fine for a week till I dumped my cache then the issue returned. I still think the core issue has to do with the cache. Could be a combination of LOD change and cache problem that equals blurry textures.

Well, my texture blurring got a little better after I explicitly told SL the correct amount of video card memory as described in this Linux alpha forum thread:

...but the first time I logged in I just plain couldn't see two avatars that were right in front of me. Everyone else could see them, and i could talk to them, and objects registered them as sitting, but I didn't see avatars or names or anything (I saw a few jewelry particles hovering in mid-air and that was it). This persisted for about 5 minutes, and then I logged off and back in. I could see the previously missing avatars, but my own was invisible for like 3 minutes (not just grey due to missing textures, but INVISIBLE). It finally appeared again, but I'm afraid I am going to be walking around COMPLETELY UNAWARE of other people in the game. Will I bump into them by accident? Seem to ignore them? Ahhh!

So anyway, I've partially resolved one issue just to possibly open up a whole new can of worms....

This is not a Linux client bug but a long-standing problem in Second Life itself. You can work around this by switching over to another group. This causes an update of all avatars in your vicinity, making them visible once more.

Huh. All right. Thanks. Of course, my concern is that I won't even be aware I am missing any nearby avatars. It was only SOME of them that were invisible. How many times have I walked right past someone without realizing they were there? Ick!

And has this even been acknowledged or fixed?

From an unscientific poll of people I know this seems to be a fairly widespread issue in the past couple of weeks, happening on at least two separate machines for me, but with ATI video cards.

It'd be nice if LL would not bury thier heads in the sand about what is not only a very *obvious* bug to anyone affected by it, but also one that seriously impacts the playability of the game for people using fully supported machines. Perhaps, along with all the other serious issues (and not so serious or game breaking ones) they are bothering with, they might try to *fix the visuals of the game so that they actually work properly* or at least, um, *acknowledge that they are broken for at least some users and let us know they are working on it*

The fact that this is being so blithely ignored upsets me more than anything else. This is NOT A MINOR ISSUE.

Aaah! Yesterday I ported into a sim to meet a friend and he said that my avie was really short, about half normal height, even though it looked perfectly normal to me. When we 'ported elsewhere it apparently went back to normal. It didn;t affect my view of my avie, or his view of his own or any others. Just his view of me.

Very weird.
