okay here is my config:

Athlon 64 X2 4200+
4Gb DDR ram
Geforce 7900GTX

latest drivers for everything

since the last SL update, it seems the textures load only half the way, everything look a bit blurry, until i click or edit or interact with the said object, at this moment the textures finish to load.

Does anybody else experience this? is there a fix?

I've had this problem for the last handful of updates actually. This last update, however, all the textures seem to pop back in -a little- faster, but not by much. It's rather annoying having a high speed connection, download the entire area, but everything is grey.

Aye, as I posted in my "pulse lag" thread below, it looks like the texture caching/loading/unloading subsystem needs some serious debugging. This usually happens to me after I have been in a particular area for a while. Textures (especially particles) will go super-low-rez, and I have to focus on them or interact with the object they are on to get them to resolve again.

I'm not sure that the pulse-lag issue is directly related, but it seems to be due to a similar problem in the same general area of the renderer.

Yes to me as well. And to quite a few others I know. Same exact problem (started about 1.10.2 or so). Blurry textures unless you edit the object or put your pointer on it. The band with does not change and it comes in the rest of the way immediately and no change in bandwidth. SO it is a cache issue of some sort. I have bug reported and bug reported and bug reported this and so far not as much as a acknowledgement from the Lindens let alone they are working on a fix. What good are new features if you have to put your pointer on everything so you can SEE. :/

Experiencing this too.

We're on it.

My video bug report: http://s87034983.onlinehome.us/Textures_Not_Loading_Until_Mouseover.mov

I'm also seeing blurry trees not rezzing with full details until long after, and sometimes between teleports and relogging, they get--and stay--blurry again.

Same here Torley. Trees are a blur most of the time unless I am right next to the tree then somtimes it will rez fully. Nice to have confirmation that this IS a known issue and by the sounds worked on in short order.

I can hang out on my sim all day and not have any problem but as soon as I bring up the big map, the trees and other textures go blurry and never come back to normal detail. It has something to do with the big map.

Interesting, I have the problem weather I bring up the big map or not. It use to be only a few textures here and there with the longer I stayed online (after a few hours or so) the worse it got (starting about 1.10.2 or so). Now though I see it almost as soon as I log in. But definitly after the first teleport. The absolute best though is to dump cache, log out, then log back in and don't teleport. But as soon as I start walking/moving around, this problem resurfaces.

ive got double the requirements for video card, and ram, yet i dont get textures to load for a good 20 minutes in most cases. logging in always brings me to a world of grey, unless its my own sim. but trying to look at textures there still takes a good 20 minutes per textures to load..

youd think with a system thats above and beyond the requirements, that the game woulda actually run well, but nooo.....

We've got a known issue with the World Map too--all the textures it uses to represent the region tiles. This is still in-progress.

I haven't seen blurred trees for the last few days. Ongoing... I'll be watching this thread.

Intersting since nothing has changed on this end. Still having problems with textures on prims, and blurry trees. Currently I am mousing over almost everything so that the textures load completely. One thing I have noticed is that sometimes when I mouse over the textures the bandwith goes up loading the texture, and other times it appears instantly without any change in bandwith. So perhaps it is not a cache issue. I never see the "grey" texture for long, so they always load somewhat (hence blurry), but never finish unless I mouse over each texture.

Update: I have been watching this very closely and here are some observations. I haven't been dumping my cache for a few days and when I went logged on and landed in my home today everything was grey for about 30 seconds or so but all the prim textures did load. HOWEVER as soon as they rezed they went blurry. I watched this hapen to almost every texture in my house. Now if I mouse over them, yes they do come in but that is very anoying to say the least.

Then I tried dumping my cache and relogging, and all the textures appared almost instantly! And only one or two did not fully load, and none loaded then went back to a lower rez (blurry) while looking at them. Even more strangely if I do a 180 turn the textures that rezed before are now blurry. Yet if I mouse over to get them to load then do a 180 turn, the textures don't derez. It is no wonder LL is having so much trouble tracking this down, it is quite the evasive bug.

Is there any chance of getting this fixed for avatars, at least?
08-09-2006 15:30
Ok,

This is NOT getting better. Clicking on objects will usually force rez, but this is not an option with avatars. So, for the past couple of release cycles I've been living with either blurry or worse, flashingly clear, then blurry (over the space of seconds) images of all my friends and neighbors. This affects skins, clothes, pretty much any texture attached to an avi that is not my own.

It has been incredibly consistent, and I a number of others have said they are having similar problems. Perhaps, along with the asset server, online presence, and a couple of other show stoppers, all you over at LL might want to serious consider making this a priority one bug. Its not better in any of the previews I've used either. I've been on the 1.11 and 1.12 preview grids, and there is absolutely no difference here.

Fix it for God's sake.. Please!!!!!

I've been having the same problem with texture-rezzing all week, but noticed it getting progressively worse in the past couple of days. Of course since today's patch I've not been able to log in at all so I can't tell if it's any better now, or not.

After todays patch, the texture not totally rezzing bug has got much worse. Ive been playing SL since Feb. and today for the first time tried to do a "clear catch" which did nothing. Before the textures would take a while to rez but when they did, the objects would say rezzed. Now, if they rez, they will de-rez.

You can get avatars to rez if you use the focus tool in the building tools and click on a avatar. They will rez, however as soon as you move and your focus goes back to normal they will derez (usually).

I also have a ATI card and others I have talked to that have this issue also have ATI cards (even the latest ones that are on the "supported" cards list. I suspect the bug only has to do with them (lucky us eh?).

It is "interesting" that more and more people are seeing it now, while I have been having problems with this for months. Perhaps when it reaches "critical mass" it will get fixed. Though from my testing it is a very evasive bug and I suspect that is why it has not been fixed yet. But I think LL needs to put this on the top of the list as if you can't see there is not much point in comming into a SL.

seeing this too

I reported this in various ways. I particularly notice it with avatars; they rez if you focus on them, but then derez again when you look away... I've had this for a few weeks now I think. Oh, and I have an ATI card (not a recent model though).

Hmm...yeah...they're 'fixing' it...whatever...Blurry textures have been an issue since 1.7. It's just getting worse for people with 'better' cards now. I can't wait til even the best card can't load an Sl texture completely. Hooboy, that'll be funny.

Well at least at that point the issue would have to be addressed. It is strange how at times it is better than others. And usually best when I first log in, but after a teleport (or moving around a lot) it gets steadly worse.

I thought I was the only crazy person experiencing this. It's good to know I'm not the only one.

Friends' avatars refuse to stay in focus, sometimes to the point where I'm wondering if they are even wearing clothes at all. Since a major part of SL is interacting with other people via their avatars, this is an especially troubling and frustrating bug. It's makes communicating incredible difficult. Imagine if people in RL refused to stay in focus...

Thank you in advance for exploring this bug and working out its solution.

True, but at least in RL you can get glasses.

I recently switched over to the Windows client running under Wine. It is interesting to note that the performance is actually WAY better now, in terms off lag, smoothness of movement, and the texture issue. When I was using the native Linux client I found out I had to explicitly set the amount of memory on my video card because it didn't autodetect properly (and had to do it in settings.xml because the GUI options are greyed out  ). That helped a little, but it was still a lot worse than my performance is now with the Windows client/Wine setup.

So in short I guess I am saying most of you have nothing to complain about. :p ;)

Out of curiosity what video card do you have?
