From: Tread Whiplash Whether Honey or Dogsh*t catches more flies is irrelevant. If you want help, you'd better not sound like an ASS when people read your posts. Asking a question, or making a statement out of ignorance is not a problem - but arrogance and disrespect are a problem!
Actually honey and dogshit have everything to do with this -- there are 2 ways to ask -- the honey (or civil) method -- and the dogshit (or ranting) method. This is a good example of the 'dogshit' method. Siggy.

Personally I think alternate formatting might make your point more effectively.

Bran, this isn't even a bug. You just suck at math. The Euler rotation <90,90,0> translates to the quaternion <0.5,0.5,0.5,0.5>. The Euler rotation <0,90,90> also translates to the quaternion <0.5,0.5,0.5,0.5>. They're two different ways of writing the same number. Look, here's some example code: default { state_entry() { vector foo = <90,90,0>; foo *= DEG_TO_RAD; rotation bar = llEuler2Rot(foo); llSay(0, (string)bar);
foo = <0,90,90>; foo *= DEG_TO_RAD; bar = llEuler2Rot(foo); llSay(0, (string)bar); } } Seriously, you might as well as write some massive (yet oddly content-poor) diatribe railing against the horrible design the Lindens have employed by having the Size and Position fields append useless, wasteful, oppressive zeros in numbers where the decimal places are not necessary. How dare they waste precious, precious electrons writing "0.500" instead of "0.5"!

take a chill pill, mate. there are bigger problems in the world than your "bug". ask someone in indonesia what they think of the problem youre having with LL.

From: Bran Brodie Many people had good talks with Hitler. Talk is cheap, show me the fixed building bugs!
Personally I think Philip considers the build bugs a large cosmic joke he is perpetrating on the very people he is relying on to provide his content for free! Personally I think you are the cosmic joke God is perpetrating on US. But, oh well.

well despite the questionable methods this post does prove one thing beyond any shadow of doubt. it proves Jeska has saturdays off. have a good weekend Jeska! From: someone From you and monkey boy I get the impression that bug reports from certain SLers are fixed but for most of us they are trashed. From: someone I guess it never occured to any of you that LL could actually fix the long outstanding well reported building bugs. It's all priroities and the person who sets them. OMG! BUG BARONS!!

From: Bran Brodie I basically gave up SL except on rare occasions because of the building bugs, would drop it completely if it weren't for my better half wanting to continue. Seems to me, its your "better half" (who according to mathmatics must be infinitly better) that you should be pissed at. Tell her/him/it to take a hike, then please do the same.

Bran, I really do agree.

I find the building here to be quite miserable. The changing of the rotations may not be a bug in the technical sense that the program is not performing as designed, but if it is not a bug then it is a design flaw. The conversions from degrees to quats and and back to degrees could be done in such a way as to preserve the numbers that weren't altered by the user's entry and to keep from doing things like changing 90 to -270, and they certainly ought to be. The fact the results displayed may be geometrically equivalent to the numbers one enters doesn't make them easy to use. The fact that some people aren't bothered by this design flaw doesn't mean you shouldn't be. This design flaw aggravates me a great deal and makes me curse out loud while using the editor.
Other problems like altering the values by one or two hundredths also bother me a great deal.
Trying to build when 25 to 50 percent of the objects you delete ghost is not a bit of fun either.
I don't know if there is some objective definition of what constitutes a startup company but in my opinion Second Life is out of that phase. Using startup status as an excuse was was lame to start with and not true anymore in my view.
The only way I have found to keep from being extremely aggravated by the build tools is simply to not build anything at all. I occupy myself by writing little scripts that are stored in single prims and the only editing I do to the prim is to customize it a bit so it is easier to recognize.
Again, I want to make it clear that you are not alone in your anger, outrage, and dissatifaction with the object editor. I feel just the same way.

That's a known bug that they're working on. It actually didn't used to show the hundreth of a point error, it "covered it up". They'll probably get to it onec the stability bugs are gone. From: someone Trying to build when 25 to 50 percent of the objects you delete ghost is not a bit of fun either.
That's a result of dropped packets between you and the server. Try lowering your bandwidth settings a bit. Failing that, before you delete something, move it out of the way prior to you deleting it, so the ghost doesn't stay in the field of view. From: someone I don't know if there is some objective definition of what constitutes a startup company but in my opinion Second Life is out of that phase. The company isn't using that "excuse", I am. I don't figure it's easy having less then 30 employees coding something never done before. Assume this program is always in beta. Accept that fact. Pay for it, or don't. Or, move on. LF

There are never any lost packets shown on the stats display. Lowering the bandwidth has no effect. The internet connection appears sound in all other respects. I am not at all alone in having this problem.
This program aggravates people because it so frequently and in so many ways fails to perform as it should. People who don't get what they pay for bitch. Deal with it. Go build something.

for what it's worth i've built alot of things in sl both big and tiny and the only problems i've ever had are unreliability of snap-to-grid, the "hundredth of a point" thing occasionally and sometimes a prim jumping to a previous position if i'm downloading a movie or something while trying to play. maybe i got a high frustration threshold but i've never even considered giving up on building and sulking in a corner.

In reference to the build tools, I suggested TCP to Philip in one instance, and heard it back in another, I believe that... though I am not an authority on what the lab uses, or on what Philip said exactly, that using TCP vs UDP for built tools is in the works, though it won't come out right away. The speed would be reduced but the accuracy would increase. Time to work on the solution to one of the larger complaints is needed, however, and thus, patience is key. Again, I only /think/ Philip said that, watch as others take my word as a direct quote that it isn't, though. >.>

Another more practical angle, I do enjoy building in SL, not as much as coding, however I do consider myself a competent builder, I haven't had any bad problems, but I will say first and foremost, don't build while on wireless, unless your wireless sytem can handle UDP properly. Building in SL is one of the truely amazing things you can do in this truely amazing world, and while it's not perfect, it's what this world is about, we should thank Linden Lab for developing such a unique and wonderful concept, and making it happen as far as it has.
