Where did they announce that? I just wasted a bunch of time trying to figure out if it was my browser or something.

Crap, my "day or two" estimate was off-base and too long!
![]() An optional viewer update has been released to resolve bugs found in 1.8.4.6. The original release notes say that HUD objects are not shown in snapshots. This is no longer true. When HUDs were introduced, many residents wanted the HUD to show in snapshots without having to turn on the UI. When investigating the fix to the nametags and text showing in screenshots, we found that the HUD could be displayed in snapshots without having the UI turned on. We have enabled this feature for now. If you don't want your HUD to show in a screen shot, simply detach it for the duration of the capture. Release Notes for Second Life 1.8.4(7) Mar 1, 2006 =========================================== * Shiny objects are once again selectable from all angles * Toruses with animated textures no longer affect FPS * Snapshots can once again be taken without showing text or nametags Second Life 1.8.4.7 optional viewer update release March 1, 2006 GET IT NOW WHILE IT'S PIPING HOT!!! _____________________

Damn. What're people gonna fuss about now?
I suggest we start a conspiracy that LL put the bugs in there on purpose and had a client ready to release to make them look good when, in actual fact, they've been sitting eating pie all afternoon. ![]() |

OK, thanks for the quick fix, I'm nearly up to my old frame rate.
HOWEVER, textures, bizarrely ones nearby, not distant ones, simply aren't loading fully, I'm still getting a lo rez blur. Even mousing over doesn't force them to load properly. Surely textures 5m away should load in under 10 minutes? Like they did a few hours ago? SO - something's still broken. The remaining question of course is: HOW did such a severely flawed 'update' make it through whatever passes for LL quality control? EXTRA - even LAND textures aren't loading correctly, three sims now and the ground is a featurless blur! _____________________
All very well for people to have a sig that exhorts you to 'be the change' - I wonder if it's ever occurred to them that they might be something that needs changing...?

There was an announcement in the announcements forum saying they were going temporarily. Can't find the post about the specific forums being disabled and that, but I definately remember reading it. Thanks, I'll take your word for it, cause I can't find it either. Glad to hear it's only temporary! coco _____________________

I'm still having this problem, though I was having it before today's update...
FPS drops at seemingly random intervals, often when working with the camera, but not always... Fast Timers shows 'Image Decode' spiking up to ~700 - ~1300 at seeming random, and 'render geometry' up to ~1200 when using alt-click to focus the camera... ...occasional spikes to ~400 for 'network'... I know my specs are low, but it was fine a few weeks ago, and reducing draw distance/LoD doesnt do much to get rid of the spiking... |

Anyone else still having issues?
03-01-2006 20:05
I didn't even get to download the "new" version before the fix (1.8.4.7) was released. So, got home, dl'd the fixed version of SL, and my fps is between .7 and spikes to a high of 4.1
Yesterday I had fps between 20-30 on the ground, 60+ in the sky. Crossing sim borders is wacky (I fly into the ground uncontrollably). I've crashed multiple times.Talked to LiveHelp (a real Linden) who said she doesn't know what's wrong and maybe ask here in Technical Issues in this thread...and email support@lindenlabs.com (umm, they still haven't got back to me on that 1.7 problem I had. My confidence in that avenue is completely shot.) System stats: Dell XPS MX6051 Intel Pentium M processor 2.26 GHz 2.00 GB of RAM Nvidia GEForce Go 7800 GTX MS Windows XP Version 2002/SP 2 I've uninstalled, reinstalled (twice) and cleaned cache. Ran a disk clean and a defrag. Any other advice besides waiting a few weeks? |

sweet. Thanks for the quick fix - oh powers that be!
Everything seems fine on my client now. In fact, the overall expereince seems a little smoother and more consistent now. And thanks for keeping us informed, Torley. I hope that the min-update works as well for the others that are experiencing problems. |
