All that aside, what really is the issue here is the fact that all my customers, and many customers of other designers are left high and dry in this “design” change. It would take me well into several releases of v1.6.x and probably v1.7 to finish fixing every customers skin. By that time the extra skin layer may be out and the issue mute. So, what do I tell them? Wait? I really think it would have been wiser for LL to implement the solution (the extra skin layer) to the problem before creating the problem (no way to remedy retroactive repercussions in an effective way).

I completely agree. I was a bit surprised that the extra texture layer wasn't addressed in this release. Fully 80% of my time in SL is spent adding tatts for people. I long to have that time to apply to new things. Sometimes I get the impression that LL doesn't stop to consider that entire business models can be wiped out by a single change like this. At the very least there could have been a lot of advance notice so people who would be greatly affected have time to come up with a plan B... and I don't mean just having it changed on the preview grid waiting for someone to notice. Hopefully they'll have a fix that can make everyone happy again in short order.

I just attempted to use a No Copy/ No Transfer skin (demo so I didn't pay) and when I went to appearance to add the texture as a tattoo it did not give me the option. Am I dumb or is this what we are talkinga bout here. If so then it is happening.

Well, in Kyra's thread in the hotline forum about her skin being gone, Don Linden said that we will once again be able to use any texture for skins/tattoos (only) - so thankfully there's a fix for this situation on its way.

The only question remaining for me (and it might have been answered and I haven't seen it yet) is approximately WHEN 1.6.1 will be ready.

No we do not know when all we do know is that sometime in the beginning of the week. All I know is that it better change so the skins work right again!

I just posted a reply to a thread in the General forum, regarding the texture picker & these 1.6 changes. Thought I'd link it to this one.

I have no problem with skin makers using the tattoo layer, but I do have a problem with this issue only being worked out to their satisfaction. This "fix" still leaves us tat makers in a real bad spot.

And, most especially those customers that have already bought our copy/mod no transfer tattoos.

This HAS to apply to textures applied to clothing as well!! That's where all of my tats are applied since my skins are "no modify".

i can NOT believe this is their solution to copy theft! I had purchased two make ups not that long ago. It took me a week or more going through the options, and I was so pleased with the results! I saved each make up in a separate skin file to make it easy to just switch between them... THANK GOD I DID!

I can at least use my make up, but now I can't purchase future looks until this is corrected.

Nam and Rose, you won't get a complaint from me, but you do get my heartfelt support for your incredible work. The ability to create my own custom look was why I chose your product over others, and even crippled, it is still the only skin I have wanted or use.

This is just absurd and whoever at linden labs thought this was a good idea needs a swift kick IMHO.

I really hope that 1.6.1 comes out soon. We would like to get back to work sometime like soon would be good.

Unfortunately, right now it looks like (per the response to the hotlined question about clothing) for 1.6.1 that it's only SKINS that are being "repaired."

Things seem to be returning to normal with the permissions fix

There are still some inventory transfer issues that I'm looking into (probably unrelated).

I think we all need to keep the extra skin texture layer promise in the forefront. Let's make sure we get enough time to stress test this on the preview grid! We need to keep asking LL when this will happen to give ourselves maximum preperation time. I will try and keep people updated in this Design & Textures forum.

I asked about it in the hotline forum a few weeks back and was told that it's in the pipeline, but I wasn't given a time frame. Hopefully it's not too low priority and we'll see it before the next major point release (though I doubt it). My guess is 1.7, but then again I thought it would be in 1.6 so what do I know? hehe.

Okay so wait a minute I'm confused here. I don't make skins but I *do* sell my clothing mod/no copy/trans, including my hair which allows people to change the texture/color on the headband. Does this mean that they won't be able to modify the texture or color on the headband? I've been having a few ims a day from people who've bought the hair that can't modify it and I've been like wtf??

I have spent soooo much Lindens on on modifiable hair and hair textures
Some I have not used yet WELLLLL now i can't!!!! Was hoping the new patch would fix this but NOOOOOO!!! This is so not cool!
