Great Tutorial. You are wonderful, Nephilaine. But you know, Chosen isn't going to be happy that you linked to that thread about the alpha channel plug in.

Happy New year!

Gimp

Hello,
I just completed this tutorial using GIMP. And it seems to work fine.
So I can post GIMP Steps, but not tonight, or rather, this morning. It's 4 am and I'm off to bed.

GIMP is a free Image Manipulating Program. Works on Windows and Linux. Works on Mac with X11 installed. If you have the new duo processors you may not even need X11.

It's an awesome program considering you don't have to spend a dime!

Thank you for the Tutorial, Neph! I love it! I have been trying to design my own clothing, but had no clue what I was doing, until now. :D

I can't see the tutorial, I really don't get how to create you're own clothes, i can't find good tutorials, So i see you love the tutorial but..Where is it? :D

Just cut and paste that link into your browser. Natalia's blog has a huge stack of tutorials, and that link takes you to the index page. If I were you, I'd start at the top -- the most basic ones -- and just work my way down. If you skip over the basics and cut straight to making a shirt, you may get frustrated.

making clothes with GIMP
03-15-2009 06:52
Can anyone help me decipher the differences in GIMP and Photo Shop... mostly right now with the layer names. I downloaded GIMP and there is no UV layer, so I'm unable to work through the "make your first shirt" tutorial. I am very much a beginner when it comes to any form of photo program and very obviously making clothes LOL!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

are men and women't tees different?
06-28-2009 11:07
I've seen tees that didn't compensate for breasts, and ones that did, and read somewhere that there is a different way of making them for men and women, can anyone point me to something that instructs on the difference?
Thanks!!

OK, I admit, I am stupid.
I do not see any link to the tutorial this thread is about.

And it gets worse:
I tried to make a simple sweater; nothing fancy, just a red, long sleeved shirt.
I used the undershirt layer, because it was meant to go UNDER a T-shirt I made for the shirt layer.

So I go into Edit Appearance, I make a new undershirt, pick color RED, do NOT use any texture and expect to be able to set the sleeve length with the slider.

But NO: The sleeve length slider does nothing! And the red sleeves cover all my arms, up to and including the fingertips! What is wrong? Has SL changed??

I also tried on a purple jacket I made years ago. (And used to look perfectly, back in those days (2006).) It is on the jacket layer. This one is textured, simply a texture for the print of the fabric, not a fancy alpha texture. This one turn ALL my avatar except the face purple!! Again: What is wrong? Is this normal in the current version of SL??
