This is what I know... which I might add, isn't much, just what I have read on the boards and playing with Photoshop

Alpha Channel defines transparency

It can be white to varying shades of Gray to Black.

Black = Fully Transparent
White = Fully Visible
Varying Shades of Gray = Semi - Transparent (the lighter the shade the less transparent it is)

so... if you want to make a criss - cross pattern (like Fishnet Stockings)

you would have Black everywhere but the legs...

The Legs you would have Light Greyish (partially see through) color with White Criss-Cross patterns

That's the alpha channel.

Then color fill your working layer to ALL BLACK.

The alpha channel defines the general shape, transparency, what shows up.... The Working Layer defines the texture, color, etc.

That is a VERY important concept that took me a little bit to realize... Your ALPHA channel is the important part in the case of transparent - semi transparent - custom shaped clothing, it will define what appears on the avatar and what does not, it defines the shape of the clothing.

Save the file as a .tga (32 bit if it contains an alpha channel, 24 otherwise)

Now... for lining up the seams from the front of the leg to the back of the leg.... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!! LOL

Your alpha channel has to match up with the seams on the front part of the leg to the back part and it is a PITA!!

I hope I helped!

I would like to see a PSP tutorial too -- but I use PSP 7 still (I'm too cheap to upgrade atm). I could do one for PSP 7, though I suppose it would be a bit outdated :).

Zana
Oh, I wish I could find a good tutorial for PSP 7. I really can't afford the upgrade and I want to learn how to make clothes, but the basic tutorial I downloaded with the templates is as clear as mud to me.

Ps Cs

I upgraded to PS CS and this is why im having the alpha prob. See in seven i could just say save as tga and it would for some reason automatically save the transparents as needed. Now its as if i have to litterally make each individual section in the alpha varying shades of grey by highlighting and then going to the alpha layer and filling the highlighted areas with the shade of grey or white or black i need. is there a way to set the alpha save so that it does it for me or do i have to try to down grade back to 7??

Hi Nephilaine,

I read over the tutorial you posted here online, but when I click on the links to see the example, I got a message that says I'm forbidden to access that website. I was wondering do you have any other links that I can try?

Hi Brianna,

We are currently in the process of switching hosting companies for our site- it should be back up and running soon.

i remember the very first time i walked into your store and was in awe of the beautiful art that your clothing is. im still in awe.i used to wear your stuff everyday but now i buy it to learn from it , i ususally only wear my own designs now. sort of a be my own hero thingy. Neph your clothing is such an inspiration. if i dont have any ideas or inspiration i go to your store and look at what youve been doing and how you have displayed your work. its like a trip to the art museum for me... a pilgrimage to mecca. sure would like to see a few tutorials on shading and on how your do your spiral armbands and how you work out your colour schemes, chain belts, how you put togeather your lace patchworks from your earlier designs. look forward to more tutorials and more clothing. hey do some more light coloured clothing again neph, youve been in a dark colour mood for ages. he he ... No thats one but that baffled me. lol

But then I cant get the images either.

A REALLY good PhotoShop training tool is ASAP ( as easy as photoshop )

look for it on the NET theres a free trial and its $20 if u want the full version

It has video voice and text for all the bite sized tutorials altho dont think it has tuts on template training which is what we need here :(

Is this tutorial available or not? Im sorry its just ive written a few times and keep coming back to try and still get ' page cant be found' or taken to some odd looking SL error page?

Any chance I can get some ideas as to keep on trying or not?

finished edges & hems.... a comment
07-24-2005 08:35
HI * smiles*

I hope you don't mind me putting this here. I'm a very detailed kind of person and the ONE thing that stands out to me with regards to SL clothing is that very few seem to know what edge finishing is. Hems?? I know I know . SL fabric's don't ravel and it's a nit picky thing to notice. Let's say you make a Top. It's cute and all the seams line up in the right places. soo you decide to show some skin and cut holes on the side. The whole top looks funny if the holes don't have some attention to detail paid. a hem or a stitch just around the edge or something!

Hi.

erm Ive only ever uploaded a few Tshirts but as far as I'm aware ALL of your designs will be 'textures' when u upload...you just apply that 'texture' to what ever part of the body it belongs to in appearance so if you made a T shirt or Blouse...it loads in as a flat image 'texture' but when u apply it to the 'top' in the apperance mode in world...it will THEN become your T shirt or blouse...then you save it and THEN it becomes your item of clothing saved as clothing not a texture.

Unless something has changed that Im not aware of in some update...lol ..this is your answer..

Maybe I am not reading your problem properly and I am sorry if i have given you the wrong answer in advance

.I i have nvr designed more than a t shirt lol

Hope this helps :)
