My friend, the turtleneck is our natural state of being, as we both still wear God's Turtleneck down below.

I'm the response to the original query, "WTF is Wrong with People!", I've found the thing that's typically wrong with people is that they're human beings.

This post represents the reason why I still bother to read these forums. Every once in awhile, someone posts something brilliant and unexpected that most people probably won't even get, and it makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. Thank you, Siobhan :)

That's from No Exit, isn't it? :)

I prefer Randall from Clerks:
"This job would be GREAT if it wasn't for the fucking customers."

hehehehe, is Kevin Smith a modern day Sartre? :)

It reminds me of what I said to someone who called me for a reference about a former network admin. I said "He will be excellent in the position as long as he never, ever has to interact with another human being". I think I was just supposed to confirm he worked for me lol. I wonder if he got the job? :D

Grrrrr..... time to add another section

Being Offended as a Hobby
You know who they are. Folks who are constantly offended by the most trivial shit, or who spend all their time being offended on behalf of others. Yes, the same ones who jump off the conclusion cliff, assuming that every thread is about them. Do these same people act like this in real life do you suppose? Have they cowed their nearest and dearest into walking on eggshells around them to avoid setting them off? Is that why they are so surprised when people here call them on their behavior?

IMO you need a thick skin to post in the forums. For one thing, text is not the most reliable medium to convey tone, so it's quite easy to be mistaken. Besides, it never hurts to let a post sit for a bit before firing off a scathing reply - cuts down on foot in mouth disease. And, if you really want to irritate someone who is trying to insult you, respond with complete politeness - it makes them foam at the mouth.

Oh... and so what if some anonymous person thinks you're a bastard with the intelligence of an after-dinner mint. How does that rock your world? Are they your family, close friends, employer, are you sleeping with them? What does it really matter. Either you are secure in your own self worth, or maybe... just maybe... you recognize that they just nailed you with some truth (truth hurts). In that case, why not learn from it.

P.S. Constantly taking up cudgels on the part of the "little guy who is too oppressed to stand up for himself" in the forums doesn't make you look like a noble crusader, but instead like a busybody, with a condescending idea towards others, who could benefit from getting a life.

Aww hun, you're making me blush now... (or should that be bush (impeached or otherwise), or push (abuse or self-defence)?) Maybe I'm just being silly.

Quite a lot of it's about you too hun... (and if it's not, it should be)...

In any case, out first avs started within days of each other, you may have been first... (don't remember)... but our currents have a birthday a week apart, and we'll both be celebrating 3 years of SL this August. Everyone's invited to the party of the decade at the "Chav & ASBO". All the Stella you can drink, and sick-bags included for when you get that far.

Seriously though, Sio and I will be having a joint party later this year... and with a bit of the old magic, maybe it will be something to remember... Love ya, hun...

In the newsgroup alt.callahans (yes, the "Callahans" written by Spider Robinson), one of the regulars there coined the term "offense kleptomaniac"; that is, those so afflicted will take any offense that isn't nailed down. I think that applies not only to SL (forums or otherwise) but to RL quite well, for a lot of people.

Offense Kleptomania...
Hah! Classic, and so apt.

How about Offense Munchausen's Syndrome By Proxy? Where people continually feign offense on the behalf of others. ("It doesn't offend me personally, but I'm speaking up for others who may be/are offended!";)

Offense Hypochondria... insisting you feel offended even when nothing whatsoever offensive has been said to you, about you or near you, but you're sure there must be something, somewhere, that is making you feel offended.

These are fun :D
