What would you do if you had an Island/SIM?

From: Leon Ash Are power crazed? What fun would there be in having newbie degrade themselves? Saying that though, the newbie Jail I saw on my travels was hilarious L I saw a newbie Zoo. With 4L$ / 10 minute poses. Sadly it was empty. And, degrading newbies is fun in itself The idea in fact is to have them think "aww, f**k it ; I don't need these 10L$" and proceed to go have fun in the vast SL world.

What would I do
01-09-2006 03:43
Well, if it was all free including the tier, even to just be able to build there........mainly because I can't afford another monthly payment right now.
1. I would build a house that I really want
2. I would build a dance place for ballroom dancing, formal dancing so all the ladies in SL could use those gorgeous gowns they bought.
3. I would put up houses and rent them out for a decent price for the new people coming into SL. Then take the profits and get designers and builder to make things I could give to the newbies to help them out.
4. I am an SL Mentor so would put up another orientation center for all newbies to come and and assist them in getting use to SL.
5. I would have a store (free) where people could come and get all the freebies I have found and saved since I have been in SL and those I would continue to find and add to the store.
But then this is a dream so I know it would never happen.....There is never a free ride.. But we can dream can't we......

From: Kitten Lulu I'd make a gathering place for the Italian community in SL, we miss one. <Cut much> Hey, you've only got one sim remember Nice thought though! L

True ... personally the saddest thing I've seen is the campchair/gambling avs With soo much to see (for free) in SL I just didn't get it. On the other hand I've seen scripts on how to 'farm' these, so maybe they aren't that bad. L

Imagine............. a vast city, physics enabled so it can be demolished, and stomping around in a godzilla avatar, destroyig it........ If I had a sim I'd certainly do this, but I'm sure I'd end up bored with that and do something else after a week or two Its just that right now, I have an urge to flatten a city or two

1. I would build a house that I really want Yep. It is pleasureable creating a house ... would you want to create it from scratch, even importing the textures etc? From: George Flan 2. I would build a dance place for ballroom dancing, formal dancing so all the ladies in SL could use those gorgeous gowns they bought. A ball room. Now there is something I haven't seen yet in SL. Anybody know of one? By ballroom I mean one where the AV are actually moving, not just jiggling about via an animation. From: George Flan 3. I would put up houses and rent them out for a decent price for the new people coming into SL. Then take the profits and get designers and builder to make things I could give to the newbies to help them out. This is interesting, what do you think is a decent price for a house? I mean for the ground, the building, furniture, garden etc? Just rough figures. I've seen much variation in prices of houses etc. From: George Flan 4. I am an SL Mentor so would put up another orientation center for all newbies to come and and assist them in getting use to SL. Nice idea.I have fond memories of the couple of sessions I spent on the orientation/help island. The mentors were great, varied & very helpful. As to the welcome area!? Now that is a different story. Found it dull and lifeless. It was crowded and just plain confusing From: George Flan 5. I would have a store (free) where people could come and get all the freebies I have found and saved since I have been in SL and those I would continue to find and add to the store. I must be honest and say that the majority of free stuff aren't very good? I've been given some fantastic things, but no 'shop' i've been in has had reasonable free stuff. In fact I stopped accepting them pretty quickly. From: George Flan But then this is a dream so I know it would never happen.....There is never a free ride.. But we can dream can't we......
George Flan That is for sure. There is no such thing as a free ride, however places like Neualtenburg have a co-op system going which is very reasonable ... if a little constraining as to what you can build etc. I suppose if you want 'freedom' to express yourself you need to pay that extra bit for it? I suppose you could always 'live' in a public 'sandbox' using a 'basic' account ... that is pretty much a free ride Regards Leon

If I was able to build that I'd try to keep it forever L

I have long wanted to try an experiment in which I play the role of benevolent absolute monarch. Apart from the fun of building a castle and surrounding houses, sheds, and assorted necessities, and having dressing up days when formal clothes are required, I really should like to see whether it is possible to rule a sim in this way and make it a happy place.

That would be a great thing to try. Would you have courtiers and such, or were you thinking more along the lines of having a monacrch and then everyone else as happy citizens? Do you think it would be possible to treat everyone equaly? Leon

I would finally build a gigantic airship home/store which would take up at least about 1/2 the sim. With the remaining sim, I would either create smaller airship homes filling up the rest of the sim and rent them out to help pay tier... either that or dinosaur island...

Dinosaur Island ... actually I'd be very surprised if it doesn't exist already!? 1/2 a sim for an airship? How large do you want to build it??? L

I think the SL engine would be pretty good for this!? Would be interesting to do experiments to see if the prey died out and what effect it would have on the predators? What equilibrium would be reached? L

Whilst checking out Wynx's fine creations I met Noramyr Gullwing and promptly insulted her by asking if Wynx created her AV. If you ever get a chance to see Noramyr's AV please make sure you don't do what I just did. Sorry Noramyr! Leon

*smiles* I'd keep it and let my Kitten run amok and make whatever her heart desired, and just live there and admire her all day long...

From: Leon Ash Please correct me if i'm wrong, but if you buy a bit of land you could still play with the custom land textures, couldn't you? I know it wouldn't be on the same scale though How much work do you think you need to do as a landlord? I'm thinking the maintenance must be horrendous, or am I missing something? Getting a little of topic here, but I'm a curious kinda person. L Nope, you only get to change the land textures if you own a private sim - you get a new menu called Estate Tools or something like that, where you can set the land textures (you can list 4, and as the land goes higher it will gradient to the next texture on your list), set the sun, and some other stuff. Not sure what's involved in landlording, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't involve plumbing or shoveling the driveway, so I'd give it a shot. My best guess would be dispute resolution between tenants, making sure someone didn't go past their prim limits, and taking care of the occasional griefing attack/contacting LL about sim performance problems.
