I can't find the link, it was in someone's sig... but I'm pretty sure I remember a linden saying that if a skybox security system pushes you you should file an abuse report.

Yes, exactly. That's why "Teleport Home" is preferred.

Privacy & Security Issues In SL
12-23-2005 10:42
Several weeks back I posed the question about privacy and security in the forum and received various comments and remarks. Since then I have seen more and more concern over this subject. As mentioned in this present thread there appears to be a considerable number of reasons why people want this type of protection. We already have that in rl so why not here. Since the demand appears to be so great why can't this be accomplished by the Lindens along with the extremely talented people in SL. It is there in almost every other program I have used, i.e., Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ, and a lot of other on-line programs. They have the technology and know how...smile

And again, if there is a need, and it appears there is, the reasons for this need real or preceived is no one's business but there own.

I do wonder if they hold the same position using it on private sims since there is no right-of-way to protect.

Yep, they did say that. lol, personally I think it was a little bit of an unreasonable position to take. I think maybe this would have been more reasonable, "Push scripts should be avoided where possible and you should feel free to abuse report them, So we can go and observe the script in question and take action if it's abusive". But they didn't, and there were instances where an abuse report has lead to instant suspension without any apparent investigation. It's made people a bit gunshy.

Pretty much the lamest comment I have ever read o.o.. did you read your post back to yourself before hitting submit o.O

Yes I have, and it's nowhere near as lame as using 'o.O'.

If "pixel sex" turns you on, I'd say your monthly fee was better off spent on a psychiatrist. It's just sad that so much wonderful opportunity of creativity in SL is ruined by the pornographic content so freely available whether you want to see it or not.

Especially when it's "not".

I'm not sure if you are suggesting that "pixel sex" is my motivation for seeking skybox privacy or not. But just in case ... no, it's not.

While I would never pass judgement or think less of those who incorporate Second Life (or the internet in general) into their sexual lifestyles, it's not my personal preference.

So, you feel that sex is pornographic? I wonder who should be seeing the psychiatrist. :)

Ah, Kris Ritter had an effective method of doing something like this in the ol' Krittannia. Was hundreds of meters up, had a perimeter, and tossed me out of my Hammerhead several times! I don't think it was quite so gentle, tho.

heh, ya, that one wasn't so gentle. Hmm... I could make the unsit depend on if the person is physicall moving or not. If they are, just push until they stop, if they aren't, then assume what they're sitting on is non physical and that they must be unsat before being pushed... That could work.

I heard Amy Weebler even put her name in for the Luna Store Lottery. Will that scoundrel ever cease her chicanery?

Aimee,

I think that putting up a push script might encourage people to try and get past it.
It is a valid option though.
You might also want to set the outer texture of the skybox to the invisible texture.
It won't stop anyone from coming in but it would be really hard for people to see.
You could even put a smaller, visible box much lower but in the same X Y pos so that it confuses people looking at the map.

Just a thought. :D

*shrug* Just because I hold an opinion that seems unpopular to most doesn't automatically mean my opinion is worthless.

I have met quite a few people in game who are also not in game for some cheap pixellated encounter with a stranger, who happen to be grateful that they've found others who think that way.

Whilst of course some skill goes into all the prim nads, functional genitalia, sexball pose scripts and such like.... personally I can think of more creative - and wholesome - outlets for the limited amount of talent that I happen to have.

An irony considering your opinion of other's opinions in another thread.

I have a platform up in the air - I use it to work on projects I like to leave out - theres less lag because there's less to render - its private so I can really concentrate on what I'm working. I wouldn't mind a bit of privacy up there just so I can continue working without interruption by random visitors.

Hmm not about the bumpy grindy at all.
