now i have found, that some interloper into an area of privacy i happen to be in, never leaves having enjoyed the experience, and never returns.
i simply believe that it is good manners to check and see if i can visit someone before i drop in.
its kind of refreshing to get to let my hair down and genuinely let loose on someone who violates my sensibilities in such a rude manner, and i never curse.

I like to explore skyboxes. Lately I've been doing it to avoid getting bored with SL. I've been TP'd home a couple times because the damn security scripts dont IM you directly.

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Not to toot my own horn TOO much, but for Xmas, I've been handing out a little privacy thingy I've made. Basically, when you're online, you can configured it to IM you every "X" number of seconds - or, only when a change happens to the scan - of "Who's Around." You can pick up my "otter monitor" at Avalon Lagoon in Lostfurest dAlliez. The L$1 vendor is in the space station at 500 m, there's a teleporter and a gravity elevator to get you up there, and the script itself is open source.

From: CrystalShard Foo The only real security and assurance of privacy in SecondLife would be a hidden sim with a restricted access list on the estate configuration. Anything else.. it doesnt matter how violant or polite you make your ejector - if someone really wants to get past it, they'll get past it. And those people who really want to get in are the ones you really want to keep out in the first place. I don't know who would be able to keep up with a high speed vehicle travelling an automated randomized course over multiple sims at 3000 meters. Staying within 20m of something moving 100m/s and randomly jinking about the sky is beyond any thechnology *I* know of in SL.

Well if its at 3k altitude it wouldn't be seeing/hearing/disturbing shit anyways..
But if I were that way inclined - I'm sure ye old unseat would be rather funny at 'high speed'...

From: Lewis Nerd *shrug* Just because I hold an opinion that seems unpopular to most doesn't automatically mean my opinion is worthless. unless you can prove you can build better than ingrid, your opinion *IS* worthless. that is the LEWIS NERD LAW OF THE INTERNET (LNLI).

If you want privacy, buy land in a PG sim, set up banana phones around the perimeter, Impeach Bush signs to guard the skys and build a fake Christian bookstore to do your work in.

Or, you can make sure all your friends who are allowed to visit said skybox aren't actually taking pictures of it to give to your enemies. coco

I have generally found that my ugly avatar, sarcastic sense of humor and dour disposition have kept all but my closest fronds from my home, and even some of my closest Sl freinds too.

That reminds me. Now that I have the code to do it with, I need to rig up a hud that lets me know who's around me, who's in earshot range, and if the one of them is the parcel owner.

From: Burke Prefect That reminds me. Now that I have the code to do it with, I need to rig up a hud that lets me know who's around me, who's in earshot range, and if the one of them is the parcel owner. There's a 'who's in chat range' HUD attachment in my 'Essential Gadgets' box, which you can get free from SLX or any of my shops. I'm using it more and more, so it'll likely be getting a usability update soon (like, within the next two days or so). As for the original 'how to protect skyboxes' question, I have a large platform at 700M at the back of an estate island, with little scanner/sensors from Drifting Thoughts that IMs, ejects, and ultimately TPs people home. As to the question of WHY to do it, it's simply that I like to work without people running, jumping, bumping, or talking around me. The fact that it holds a 96M perimeter (far outside the camera-pan range) is just a bonus.

Can I get a copy? I was hoping to make one that sorted by Earshot,Cam, and Max Sensor ranges. It'd just be cooler that way. Maybe if it could tag people in my active group. I have old boy Argent's 'eavesdropper detector', which is just plain handy, but I'm a tard who needs a little more muscle to his intrusion tactics. And yes, I run long timers.

Last night I was tooling around in my new Ajax shuttle <shameless plug for the creator> At 2000 meters i hit one of those scripts. Thankfully I was traving fast enough it didn't get ahold of me. What meat head thinks they can own the sky and isn't just a little on the stupid side? Rox

I find it annoying the people don't just, say, TAKE THE THING DOWN WHEN THEY'RE NOT USING IT. But that would... say, make sense. I know, it takes time to set it up, but if it's not there, people won't snoop it.
BTW. It wouldn't stop me from placing bugs in the skybox, it would just give me an incentive to use automated movement.
