i just arrived from a game that didn't do updates very often, believe me, updates are good!!

I second this motion. I am now replaying a MUD I used to play EIGHT YEARS ago and it's still got the same horrible bugs in it that could be fixed in five minutes without restarting the server just by adding a single word to a single text file.

I've been from a chat program that did updates often as well. Not as bad as SL, but bad enough. I appreciate Andrew's decision. Every week is absolutely horrible, but feel free to disagree. Its all personal perspective anyway.

Doubly annoying since I have a custom keys.ini setup, and I have to reinstall it every time there's a new client, thanks to the braindead way SL updates itself.

From the release notes for version 1.5:

From: someone

Users can create a custom_keys.ini file in the SecondLife/app_settings
directory with their own custom keyboard mappings. This file overrides any
settings in keys.ini and will not be overwritten by new releases or updates.

I personally am getting tired of the constant weekly updates. I know that LL could care less when my day off is but the past 3 wednesdays have been updates, and now this week too. Since it is my only day off, I use wednesday morning and early afternoon to get things done and visit with my Partner whom I don't see much during the week nights. I'm ticked off to the point of just cancelling my SL. Every week I think, ok..they couldn't possibly be doing another update this wed...then baam I see they are. 4 weeks in a row Unfuckingbelievable.

Updates twice a month seems more rational to me, unless of course there is some emergency update or whatever. It would also make more sense to do them on random days so that people aren't screwed out of their time every week...

How about giving us the option of running on an old version.. or not update for say.. 2 weeks?

Shouldn't too hard, really.

EVERY week is a bit annoying.

I <3 Updates. It means that something has been fixed or something added (albeit it might mean that something has been broken as well, but all we need to fix that is MORE updates! MUAHAHAHAA) besides the momentary lag problems on that day I see no problems.

I see the need for frequent updates. However, I am among those who would like to see the schedule rotated, so the downtime is not always on the same day. It's gotten to the point that I expect SL to be down most of the day on Wednesdays.

"Anyone else getting tired of constant updates?"

No, many online worlds/games update daily or weekly. If it helps make the world/game run smoother, fixes bugs and annoyances, ect. Then I'm all for it.

The default target for an update will Wednesdays. I think that means: If it is ready on Monday then we'll wait until Wednesday, but if it there is any doubt that it is ready by Tuesday night then we may slip to Thursday if necessary. We don't like to deploy updates on Friday or Monday, so any non-emergency that slips past Thursday would have to be pushed to next Wednesday."

Or they could update every day!

No seriously, the weekly updates need t end. I don't pay for premium to have one of my two days off a week blacked out by weekly downtime.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that one. Or at least if I did, it didn't register.

Edit: Feh. I'm clearly too sick to be able to read or remember properly. Forget what I said about 1.5 going up after I joined.
