A new message was put into 1.9. And we've already had to deal with it.
Something happened with inventory transfers. Someone bought one of our avatars, and received... pretty much nothing...
When they put on the av, they get,
"Failed to load body part named (xxxx), Please notify the vendor from whom you purchased this item."
Well, that's good and well, but giving them a new one didn't seem to solve the loading issue. But they're getting this message that just -swears- that we can take care of it! So i've got someone who's livid at me right now, and I'm trying to explain to them that this is a new release, and there are bugs... but all they see is that the message says that we can fix it!
... So, don't know what to say about this one. I can't fix 1.9 inventory transfer bugs. And honestly this person is 2 days old and too new to have to know how asset servers work and what's changed from 1.8 or 1.9; they likely don't care.
All they know is that the message says I can fix it; I can't, and that, my friends, is 1.9.

If you're quoting the message correctly, then it does not say that the vendor can fix it. It simply says that the vendor should be notified. Reasonable. But I understand.

From: Michi Lumin It doesn't, but try explaining that to a panicking newbie.... I know. Give the money back until you can fix the problem with LL. It won't hurt your reputation at all. At least, I'd hope not. Newbs are jumpy, but not unreasonable.

Well sure -- got them taken care of and they aren't upset anymore. But I'm not sure if this wording is thet wisest thing, especially since vendors -can't- do anything about it... If it was a matter of simply re-giving the item, superduper. But it iddn't.

If it was a matter of simply re-giving the item, superduper. But it iddn't. I can't think of a better way to word it. I mean how would you word it? "FATAL ERROR: SECOND LIFE IS SCREWED UP YET AGAIN AFTER ITS WEEKLY UPGRADE!" From LL's point of view as well as SL in general, it's probably good to direct them to the vendor. At least, they'll get a quick answer there. Would you rather them e-mail support? It's uncomfortable any way you go. It's a very bad bug. But at least it gives you control over the user experience. As much as you can have given the bug.

It's uncomfortable any way you go. It's a very bad bug. But at least it gives you control over the user experience. As much as you can have given the bug. Well seeing as at this point it looks like it's a problem with either their inventory, or the server their inventory is tied to, they probably should be directed to support. I can't do anything about it, whereas support likely can. Certainly more than I can. Looks like it's more a matter of them even being able to access that content. No form of me re-giving them the item fixes it. I dont know if certain accounts get assigned to certain asset servers, and perhaps that one is flaking out or what... One thing LL did say about 1.9 was, specifically: "1.9 affects things like inventory transfers, so be sure to bug report any strange behavior." With this in mind, maybe the message should say something more to that effect? But either way it leaves me in a situation where i'm profusely apologizing for the behavior of 1.9, something I really have no control over. Believe me, if I could fix it, I would.

Huh, I'm surprised this hasn't hit me yet. I'm still waiting for better llGiveInventory() feedback though... and have been for well over a year, heh.

I just discovered that one of my pirate ships had its movement scripts simply stop running since the update. For no apparent reason, the Running checkbox became unchecked

I take it this hasn't been resolved. A user of my vendor contacted me today and they're getting sporadic delivery of inventory items on purchase. There's nothing wrong with their setup, there's no error message, just nothing delivered. I know it's not the scripts, they've been in use throughout SL for a long time now. I'm not sure what I can do to stop this, because there's no indication if llGiveInventory() has worked or failed, the vendor's quite happy that delivery has happened. Also, it's delivering an item OK sometimes, but not others, so there doesn't appear to be an object-specific issue.

I got it from the demo of Chip Midnight's new ultra skin the other day ... several times in a row.
When I logged in later, the most recent one that I'd tried (unsuccessfully) suddenly worked fine. Strange.
Oh ... uh ... notify the vendor. Hey, Chip. I got that message thing.

Does this have anything to do with the new way in which things communicate in SL? Offline IMs have been very hit and miss since update.

I had a problem like this with a recent update (llGiveInventory failing quietly on some items), except it was with my server, which does all the calls to llGiveInventory.
I had to re-rezz a new server, and hook my vendors up to it, and that completely fixed that problem.

- Jon This isn't a networked vendor that my customer is using. The item's in the contents of the vendor. Everything's there, everything's setup correctly but sometimes it delivers, sometimes it doesn't. There seems to be no pattern to it.

After 1.9. I had an item in my vendor that wasn't being given to the buyer. The vendor would happily take the money though. The problem was fixed by the following rolling update.
It had to be a permissions related bug. I could buy the item myself. Yet when I logged into an alt and tried to buy the item, I'd get nothing.
While under my alt, I abused Starax and tried to get him to fix it, but he just told me to STFU. I'd recommend nobody buy anything from him. He's just horrible.

Na, I don't think he's horrible, but there are rumours that he has extensive conversations with himself whilst dribbling in the corner.

But are the protocols that deal with this the same as IMs? They have been extremely dodgy post 1.9, at least offlines have.

I thought it was permissions myself at first, but that it gives the same item correctly sometimes but not others doesn't tally. I agree on Starax though. But I still need to buy one of his wands. Evil person that he is. How dare he create something so amusing.

Without knowing for definite, I'd think that they would be similar but I don't know if they take the exact same route or not. I've noticed that IMs have been dodgy - especially offline IMs not showing when you login but that hasn't happened since the last rolling update or the one before...I forget.
