I think that the problem today actually may have started hours ago but only got really serious recently in that 8 hurs ago i started having problems buying things, vendors were very slow to respond and inventory was slow to rez starting last night. Whatever the source of the problem is, may date back a few days... just by implication i might suggest to SL staff to look back to the beginning startig right after the update. if its a griefer attack well some of us are lucky enough to make a small living off SL and this is prventing work so, i woudl sue the griefer myself for every penny.

Hmm I was actually rushing home to cover the Linden's speech for the Second Life Times. Its about the last thing I would expect for the entire grid to go down. Hmm well this throws a Godzilla-sized monkey wrench into the Birthday schedule.

If its a griefer then may god help the Lindens when the Grid gets back on. If you think there were protestors before hand....

But let us hope it was just an unforseen error. As usual the Lindens arent telling us anything about what is causing the problem. Still the timing could not have been much worse. :(

Before the errors came up, I was thinking "You know. This would be a perfect time for someone to knock over the grid." Then when I heard about all the protestors... I knew something was gonna happen.

If I can think of something that would get more Linden attention than some quiet, well-behaved protesters it would be a griefer taking the grid down :)

I took off work early to attend, but I'm stuck trying to log in. So I'm reading a book, quietly chuckling to myself that this may be the ultimate in irony -- a birthday party without any partiers.

The website now says:

From: Website

The Second Life grid and portions of the Second Life web site are currently down due to unplanned circumstances. We appreciate your patience and we will re-open the grid as soon as possible.

Of course, this doesn't mean crap as a protest against registration changes. Griefers have been taking down the grid for a long time, especially the night before major version releases. If nobody expected a griefer attack during the birthday party then they've had their heads in the sand for the last couple years. :p

Wasn't the Third Birthday Celebation supposed to kick-off today at 2:00 pm SLT? The grid goes down just before that. Hmmm, coincidence?

Sam, it's obviously not a coincidence. I hope the perp(s) and hung, drawn and quartered with lashings and salt rubbed into their wounds..... slowly.

Of course!

Like I said, anybody who didn't expect griefers to hit this with enthusiasm needs to come back to reality.

As one of those involved in organising the protest against the registration changes, and an officer of the group co-ordinating things, I can categorically say that the grid crash was in no way part of our plans or actions, and if I had heard of anything like that being planned under our banner I would have left immediately and reported it to the first Linden I could find.

Maybe the Lindens shut down the grid to stop all the no-verification protesters from showing up at the celebration. Those that are still in world can't rez their T-Shirts from inventory. :)

The 'speech' area is still up, I'm there with about 30AVs - No Phil though. I don't think he can log in! :D

Can't see te rest of the grid either... IMs not working... We have Hermia and Ethan hostsge.
If Phil doesn't turn up soon Ethan's going in a stew!

Oh, I know. I wasn't blaming the protestors at all. I was addressing the people who were like 'This'll open LLs eyes for sure!' Heh, no it won't. Routine, really.

I was in till not long ago. I was just checking out the birthday stuff when it went down... trying to move with 1 fps. I heard people saying the grid was down, so I tried to stay put. IM, find, teleport all dead. I spent an eternity trying to fly over to where all the people with the signs were... then when I finally reached it, I got dc'ed.

I'd just like to say that Mr Puck Goodliffe has some extremely peculiar underpants concealed in his property. And they should remain concealed, to be frank.
