We all read the terms of service. They did not lie to any of us. This is a work in progress, and we are taking a RISK in order to ride the bleeding edge of technology. Ride the blade, you risk getting cut.

I think this says it all we all need to remember that second life IS the cutting edge of the Internet.

Can someone fill me in as to what "alt" in this context means? I've heard it several times now. I'm assuming it's meaning an alternate identity, but I could be wrong.

Okay, look. I know I'm new, and I also know I can't do much to stop you guys, but take it easy on the Lindens. Linden Labs made Second Life for us, the users. Therefore, we should be happy.

[snip]

the fuck out.

Anger management?

I spend around 40 dollars per month on the game.

I test preview.

I file bugs.

I point out stuff that doesn't help users.

Lindens need their ears cleaned out, cause I feel they don't hear me. Neither do they seem to hear many other testers.

I think it's a communication issue, and maybe someone talented enough in communication (ala Torley) could solve this. Need more Torley's pls.

There is a massive lack of communication between the residents and the Lindens.

First, I propose full and detailed release notes.

From a link on the SL homepage;
Your first Basic account is FREE, and includes access to events, shopping, building, scripting- everything you can do in Second Life. After your first free Basic Account, each Additional Basic Account (known in-world as an "alt" account) costs a one-time fee of $9.95.

Well to the maker of this thread. I have done my part for the game, I done bug reports, been inth helper groups to promoto the game in a + way. Helped and still does help newbies in all conditions etc........I do preview beta testing when thy are around etc.......Hence instead of writing this ugly piece of writing and insulting those that play this game. Get out an doing something about it. I am and i always will for the game. people that write ugly pieces like this just want to cause HARM to those that really enjoy ths game.

Hey, for those that think that the Lindens can do a better job and that you could do better, here ya go: http://lindenlab.com/employment

Most of the job opportunities appear to be either technical or programming based, which is all well and good for those with the qualifications, but there are many other things on all levels where LL could use assistance, both as paid and volunteer staff.

The question is..... does the "future of the 3d metaweb interverse thingy" involve these things, or is it purely the technical side that LL wish to concentrate on, leaving the rest of us to figure it all out for ourselves?

"Cutting edge of the Internet" is no excuse for taking simple things and making them harder; taking something that worked well and reducing the ways it can be used. That is the photo system and that was done on purpose. As for the pie menu - and all the lag and errors it causes - whatever advantage it was supposed to hold (apparently doing an arm movement instead of a click) weren't worth it.

I don't think things like that have anything to do with cutting edge.

And as for all the other bugs, it's not very cutting edge when you introduce an update (which offers nothing to me, by the way) and break 50 other things doing so.

Well... at first I was all over SL... then I got to where I only went to certain places. Then I was hiding out in my own "little world". Now I hardly ever log in. Why? Because LL has things so fraked up compared to when I first regged (a year ago this past April, had to let my premium account go because I could no longer afford it) that it just isn't fun or profitable any more. Not to mention the ever increasing griefers, swoopers, and all the other nasties that come out of the woodwork.

"Your world, your imagination." It definately isn't my world and it most certainly isn't my imagination.

Really, you have three courts. The courts of screamers, whiners, cheerleaders, and nulls. Each court was named by the other two, if you can get the joke.

The Screamers complain about everything and anything. They hate change, they hate it when things stay the same, they hate it when they hear it.

The Whiners ask for things, and complain when they don't get it. They think that SL belongs to them and them alone, and that everything being done should be to benefit them.

The Cheerleaders love everything there is about second life. They weep for joy at every upgrade and defend every bug. They are the natural prey of the Whiners and Screamers, and are often hunted to extinction.

The Nulls just play second life, do what they think is fun, tell LL when there are problems, and try to not get drawn into every little problem. They really don't count, since people never pay attention to them anyway.
'
Very nice summing it up... Now I do have an identity crisis, because I cannot determine to which group I'd lean more forward to...
The least I know, it would be Cheerleaders... But other then that, depending on what the subject is, I could be in any group

Unfortunately that edge is so blunt and ragged, it's ripping us all up.

When they update it, they're not intentionally trying to fuck it up, everyone here knows that. They're trying to enhance Second Life, yet all of you complain when one of their enhancements go wrong, and its down for a while. Just be happy you have the damn thing to begin with, because if we're not satisfied with it, perhaps LL should just shut down Second Life? I bet you'd all regret the constant hateful comments you make, then! They're trying, and I know it can be a huge bother when you're constructing something with all the bugs and stuff, but trust me, they'll get worked out, if you like the goddamn game, stop bashing the Lindens. Otherwise, get the fuck out.

-Aden.

Norn\mally Aden I would agree with you, however I have been in SL more than a year now and seen this constant history of ignoring customers, giving them litle or no suport and when they do it is the kind of support hat would get them fired anywhere else. Also they seem to ahve a toal lack of regard for creating these bugs as a simple longer term time frame for upgrades and proper testing uder high load environments would make them more feasible. Thes "upgrades" you are defending are a horrible fact of life for us, making each new version worse than the one before it. And there is rarely any satisfactory response to issues in SL. They sem to ahve everyone busy working on new bells and whistles and no one working bug fixes. Live Help is not a good resource as they will inherently blame your PC and if you ahve the knowledge to prove it is not your PC, you will emrely be called a liar and ignorant. I know, I have dealt with it over a year. IMHO LL needs to sack over half of it's staf adn get some folks in who know what they are doing and when upper management wants to set an unrealistic schedule for upgrades, ahve the guts to tell them it WILL be a total disdaster that will create a snowball efect on bugs. I know if Iwas the bos there'd maybe be about five people who still had jobs on monday

LOLOL Aden, you sound just like Lewis Nerd did when he started SL last Oct. now he is one of the biggest complainers on this board.

I agree however that the forum has become overwhelmingly negative lately, to the point that it is becoming an unpleasant experience participating in the forum community.

Quoted for the truth. That's the basis of the whole first post. Sure, I dislike the things the Lindens do (especially with the last update because I lost some playing time) but am I bitching about the fact that it's always down and ARGH I HATE LINDENS. No, I'm not. If you don't like to pay, people. Stop paying. Stop being a premium member. You wont have any land to not be able to be built upon because "OMG SL IS ALWAYS DOWN!!1" Your problems would be solved and there'd be a lot less complaining. In fact, I'd like to see Linden Labs play a little trick on us, and say they're closing it for good, just to test us and have a laugh. Because I know that almost every single one of you, the premium members who are complaining, would miss Second Life. I can understand where you're coming from, how you're angry that you have benefits but Second Life is always down so you feel you don't get much time to enjoy them. However, if you don't feel like SL is worth paying for then I think you should downgrade your account.

At the above post: Yes, I know, the updates are horrible, and perhaps some of the Lindens are not very good with customer service, but you know, you can't really pin that on all of them. There are SOME nice Lindens out there.

Im fairly new myself, but im not blind.

I understand how people can be upset, because they are not treating SL as a game or a tool, but rather a way to make money. Some want money soooo bad that if they cant log in or make money to balance out what they pay, they freak out.

I understand, and i pity them. They dont realize that its a risk they have to take with online software and virtual worlds. I might be new to SL, but im not new to online software. All their land is on a server, if that server goes down so does their land. Its virtual and virtual is not a solid mass. They dont seem to realize that such virtual worlds, by their own definition require maintence, bug fixing, down times.

Our technology is not so perfect to prevent this.

Sooo complaining on the forum about Linden labs doesnt solve or do anything. It just shows greed without understanding. I feel the pain because like many, i also like to make a profit. But i wont die from it. If you own a business and its busy durning the summer, but slow durning the winter.. do you complain to GOD for nature? No. You take it in stride, and servers being down occationally is Natural.

Thats just it, the programming quality deteriorates with time. SL is a complex program with the option for many bugs. Your right they probably didnt spent enough time or resources hammering it out, but then what company doesnt? Its normal. I have yet to see a perfect online game without its problems.

Now that is really funny since I was a premium member up until about 2 months ago and now I hardly ever log in under my basic. Do I miss SL? Can't say as I really do. And yes I was one of the ones who -used- to bitch about the upgrades for all the good it did which we all know was absolutely none. And now we have this train wreck that some of us have seen coming for more than a year. Naw... LL shouldn't listen to it's customers. The customers don't know what they are talking about. Face it. LL has really blown it this time. There are people who always backed LL no matter what who are now really ticked at LL for this latest fiasco and are not standing so staunchly behind LL.

Sure there are those at LL who are nice and very helpful but they are few and that certainly does not make up for this train wreck or the manner in which I have been treated by the ones who are not so nice or all the disasterous upgrades since 1.5 or the griefers that LL ingnores or the swoopers or... need I go on? If you haven't gotten the picture by now then you never will. Or at least you won't until one of LL's train wrecks effects you as badly as this one has effected so many more than normal.

Look, all I'm trying to say with this thread is for people to stop bitching about LL, not because I love them with all my heart, but because it's annoying as hell and really makes me not want to even bother posting here in the first place. /Endthread.

I'll tell you just like I tell people on the SciFi Channel forums. If it bothers you so bad then don't read the posts. YOU chose to open the threads. YOU chose to read the posts. YOU chose to be annoyed by it. YOU made the decisions. Don't project your wrong decisions on everyone else.

Have a nice day.

Look, i love this game, or i wouldnt be spending what i do a month on it, we own over a sim, you do the math...but!!!!! BIG BUT HERE..

I want this game to be all it can be...they have some incredible ppl on their staff that work extremely hard, i do give them that, i think and this is just my oppinion, that they lack dirrection. Updates need to be better planned and implimented and i dont think anyone can argue that. Things that used to work and now don't ?? To me there is really no excuse for that, in my real job, id have been long gone after maybe the second mishap of that nature.

I just want to challange SL and its staff to be all that it can be, and do better by its paying customers...call me a screamer if you will...i think the world needs more of em!!
