From: Dnate Mars Yeah, I guess I am somewhat of a cheerleader, but I do believe that LL is for the most part doing what is best for all involved. Linden Lab is doing what is best for Linden Lab. Making the residents happy is a byproduct of making a product that remains saleable and relevant enough to keep the cashflow going. Keeping the company afloat is priority, as with any commercially driven organization. Not all LL employees are as zealous about helping residents as you may think. Some of them are there because its a job, just like any other job the rest of us have in RL. While SL seems like the only thing that LL is involved in, I'm sure they are also busy working on other secret future products of which only some of us may be aware of.

Keeping the company afloat is priority, as with any commercially driven organization. Keeping a company afloat consists mainly of keeping the customers happy. Irritating long-term, highly skilled and enthusiastic paying customers is not part of that process, and does not increase revenue. Simply turning over thousands of free accounts in order to inflate the population does not increase revenue either. Lewis

From: Jonas Pierterson Then they can go back to the old snapshot system. I wasn't aware ignoring bug comments and complaints in preview was for the better of all. And the old function for the "Enter" key, I don't know of anyone yet who isn't annoyed by *that* change. It really strikes me as being the sort of thing that would be come up with by someone who hasn't played SL enough for certain behaviors to become automatic, and thus wind up getting screwed up by a change like this. Personally, I think that that's LL's biggest problem. They don't actually spend enough time in-game *without* using the Linden name to see what regular residents have to deal with in the way of bugs, griefing, inteface, etc. This means that their priorities are different from those of the average resident, and their ideas on what the real problems and player needs in the game are out of touch. And they don't seem very inclined to take the word of the people who actually *are* using SL enough to see what's really what on the ground.

Torley Linden: "Gee, Philip, what are we going to do tonight?" Philip Linden: "The same thing we do every night, Torley. Try to take over the world!" ... Philip Linden: "Torley, Are you pondering what I'm pondering?" Torley Linden: "I think so, Brain, but what if the hippopotamus won't wear the beach thong?" Guess what archive I just found?

LOLOL Aden, you sound just like Lewis Nerd did when he started SL last Oct. now he is one of the biggest complainers on this board.
I agree however that the forum has become overwhelmingly negative lately, to the point that it is becoming an unpleasant experience participating in the forum community.

Foolish, don't forget the population that are neither whiners, nor screamers, but people who have invested not only money but a portion of their heart/soul/mind/what have you, and get frustrated when functionality is stripped from the client, or makes life harder for us (increasing griefer attacks, etc).
We don't whine - we don't scream - but sometimes we just get disappointed, and have to say it.

I was advised to avoid arguing with fools in public as other people cannot tell which one is which from a distance.

We don't whine - we don't scream - but sometimes we just get disappointed, and have to say it. <raised eyebrow> I did. 'Null'. It's a parody. While it does point out that some people take it to extremes, I have little to no doubt that it does not cover the universe of people on the boards. As to having an investment in SL. Everyone has an investment that stays in SL for any time at all. I spend massive amounts of time online, and my time is a VERY expensive resource to me. It equates to money in a very direct manner. I choose to work in SL and take the risks that brings. Am I happy that bugs and changes to the interface happen? Do I feel good when I can't build or complete a contracted assignment due to bugs? No. I report them, I may even comment on them to others as a warning when I see something other people have not yet as a courtesy. I don't club the nearest Linden over the head and scream at them for being a "bloody cheerleader" or failing to apologize about something they may not even been informed about yet. Disappointed? Sure! I'm been disappointed lots of times. I've lost work in SL due to it. I've lost sales as well. I've also made profit. I've also made many friends I enjoy. I also have watched them try and fix the problems as they can. I've seen them have to work all weekend fixing something that the griefer of the week caused on their servers. I've seen them NOT close off tools to make their own life easier in order to allow those of us who use them correctly continue to do so. We all read the terms of service. They did not lie to any of us. This is a work in progress, and we are taking a RISK in order to ride the bleeding edge of technology. Ride the blade, you risk getting cut. Oh, the risks ARE terrible. But the rewards... I don't even know how to describe the things I can see for the future. Sure. A lot of things can be improved in SL. <shrugs> I see it happening.

From: Foolish Frost <shrugs> Really, you have three courts. The courts of screamers, whiners, cheerleaders, and nulls. Each court was named by the other two, if you can get the joke. The Screamers complain about everything and anything. They hate change, they hate it when things stay the same, they hate it when they hear it. The Whiners ask for things, and complain when they don't get it. They think that SL belongs to them and them alone, and that everything being done should be to benefit them. The Cheerleaders love everything there is about second life. They weep for joy at every upgrade and defend every bug. They are the natural prey of the Whiners and Screamers, and are often hunted to extinction. The Nulls just play second life, do what they think is fun, tell LL when there are problems, and try to not get drawn into every little problem. They really don't count, since people never pay attention to them anyway. I personally see that as the ecosystem of not only SL, but every other community on or off the internet. You can look back through a person's posts and see which direction a person leans, and take their comments with the proper amount of salt. Even my own. Regadless, each court will continue to do what they do best, so don't worry about it. It never ends, so just go and do what you enjoy! Oh... And if anyone thinks I'm talking about them especially, I wasn't. Really. Seriously. (Anyone think I should add trolls in there, or are they a subgroup?) You forgot troglodyte.

I come here because it's as close as I can get. <shrugs> I do try to make my posts useful or entertaining, but heck, we all have bad days. Anyway, I grew up liking to debate the whichness-of-why... Forums are just a natural extention of it.

From: Aden Lasek if you like the goddamn game, stop bashing the Lindens. Otherwise, get the fuck out. Nice talk to include in a post that advocates tolerance. When you are here a bit longer, and you create or purchase items that later stop working as a result of a hasty untested update, or you lose items you purchased because of an asset server failure, then perhaps you will find more tolerance for the frustration expressed by many in the SL community. There are some bugs and matters that should take development precedence to the addition of features such as fancy pie menu flashing. No, take it from those who have been here longer, not every bug is fixed and lost and broken items are not replaced.

From: Aden Lasek Okay, look. I know I'm new, and I also know I can't do much to stop you guys, but take it easy on the Lindens. Linden Labs made Second Life for us, the users. Therefore, we should be happy. When they update it, they're not intentionally trying to fuck it up, everyone here knows that. They're trying to enhance Second Life, yet all of you complain when one of their enhancements go wrong, and its down for a while. Just be happy you have the damn thing to begin with, because if we're not satisfied with it, perhaps LL should just shut down Second Life? I bet you'd all regret the constant hateful comments you make, then! They're trying, and I know it can be a huge bother when you're constructing something with all the bugs and stuff, but trust me, they'll get worked out, if you like the goddamn game, stop bashing the Lindens. Otherwise, get the fuck out.
-Aden. Someone really needs to playaround SL when come back later and take all this non sence back. After awhile this person might figure out everything they said is BLA BLA just hot air........ If its just a game and all is so wonderful on yourside then why even post with a alt to stat with? Oh well welcome to the new sl where alts runs the game and griefters get away causing problems. have a nice day.
