Put Fake Green Dots On The Map!
02-15-2006 19:39
An easy way to promote traffice to the area surrounding the former telehubs would be to put fake green dots on the map!
People use green dots on the map to find places where there is action. Just have the map display 5 to 10 green dots on the map at all the infohubs, and people will go there just like they go to anywhere else on the map with green dots. Even better, have the dots arranged in patterns, maybe a mouth licking it's lips and some dot's spelling the words "Got Hub?", stuff like that. _____________________

I still think my idea of a gridwide network of pushguns pushing people to the infohubs was a very efficient and effective solution. Or instead of scripted objects pushing people to the infohubs, one could call on the little used but still serving by virtue of waiting Second Life Militia! Hundreds of people with pushguns and gravity guns, working together to toss folks hubward in a veritable avatar bucket brigade! This would get folks to the hubs and be fun to boot! _____________________

I personally would like to see a developed foundation for information systems. Something functional or presentable on a large scale to draw attention. People fly a lot and with it too low to the ground there won't be much attention. Possibly even some movement within the vicinity. I think stuff moving around, whether it is prims or texture animations, could draw peoples attention. And no, I'm not talking about seizure inflicting type stuff or making everything moving, just a bit is all that is needed.

Okeydoke, it's been good reading what ideas have been presented, altho I can never get enough. So, we've got a lot of Infohubs to play with.
Now, more talk turns to action--if we can dream it, we should be able to do it! Hopefully a diversity of approaches, like how SL itself is full of variety.
Both of these were amazingly planned and executed thus far... and there's more excitement to come from the artistic visions of extremely creative Resis. ![]() SO: if you've got something actual to implement inworld at an Infohub that's of benefit to the community, or heck, maybe you've noodled around and came up with a whole Infohub design and then packed it in your inventory for a rainy day (just 'cuz I know some peeps are like that) or whatever's good+crazy--please get in touch with me. IM, PM, email (torley@lindenlab.com) will all do. Show me how enthusiastic you are, and let's do it. This is open! _____________________

Enhanced and ensured variety of what can and is possible in sl
![]() 02-24-2006 21:37
Depends what the company wants.
If a true cross-section of SL content is desired, a look at what CAN be done and IS done, what can and is possible ..... Have about 10 billboards with different categories. Scripting/Animations. Home design. Landcaping. Real jobs. SL Publications. Avatars. Clubs. Vehicles. Miscellaneous. Education, Art/canvas, Art/sculpture etc. Have notecards in each with landmarks/mini descriptons that CHANGE every 2 weeks. And have those lists further be varied in creator and tone. Stands to reason the infohubs should not be PG or mature, so the info about SL will reflect all of SL. Might want to mark certain infocards 'mature' if you think you might offend. STANDARIZE the info, ie, the same data at each hub so they can be more easily POSTED PUBLICLY IN THE FORUM for a REVIEW by the people who stand to lose if the data directs folks in only certain directions ![]() And UNLESS what you're after is a prim version of the SL classified section, don't allow advertising. This would obviously skew the info. Unless you're after a revenue source of sorts for LL. Again, it depends what LL wants. Variety can still be attempted if you advertise, but you'll see a much more narrowed version of SL. 'Minimal advertising' may not be the greatest compromise between none and mall-like overkill either. because lone ads DRAW THE EYE AND THE ATTENTION of people, much like showcasing ![]() It all depends on what LL wants. A great cross-section of data. Or a showcase for their high revenue customers and/or friends and friends of friends and friends of friends of friends ![]() ![]() |
