So too are many posters here - well not optimistic - but hopeful. They've put a whole lot of "sweat equity" into SL and would like to see some assurance or mere hints that won't be lost.

As Daniel James wrote in his essay, there is far too much of LL ideals getting in the way of pragmatics. While he was lauditory of their vision, he characterized their operating principles as vaguely "religious". That, for me, is the pity.

Unless I missed something, which isn't impossible as I'm up to late (again), did I see not one but two posts in this thread referring to a Linden talking about this problem on their own blogs?

Are they not allowed to post here or interact with the lowly users? Do they just stick with the announcements forum and just throw Torley to the wolves by making her responsible for taking care of the rest of the forums?

Seems a bit insulting that they talk about this issue on their own web-logs as opposed to posting here. Some would say they are afraid to do it. I'm willing to bet it's more of a "we don't dirt ourselves by visiting that place" attitude.

Its more to the fact that a lot of people applied for a Liason job because they are social at heart. They are the types who ENJOY talking to people to discuss and help with problems and would naturally be ones to have a blog somewhere. Hell torley has her own web address !!

Most of them refer to their blogs quite often. Its convienent for them. Simple. Its -their- home for discussing all issues directly and indirectly related to SL. And its not being afraid to post or they wouldnt be sharing their sites with the public.

If there are links on other Blogs where the Lindens discuss this could some one be kind enough to post a list of links. I have yet to see anything that is in the verified words of a linden.

There is the reply from philip linden as an email reposted.

The Vote is now the biggest thing that hit the voting system with in 48 hours
2721 votes/374 voters Ranked #1 on Votes. # 5 on Voters

In 2 days it has rendered the Voting system an embaressment. Find more voters so that it is #1 for voters as well and at least we feel good that we making noise and records. Sad that it is not a new member drive.

No Dwell, Shoppers and members being scammed and griefed. Tons of broke newbies. A sour birthday that will be a griefers parradise. Wonder how many will have to stand security?

We have proposal 1503 under which to stand, rally and feel lil better that we doing something.

The vote count just passed 3000

3003 votes/423 voters to be exact.

It is the #1 most voted on topic on the charts and there *still* had not been so much as an acknowledgement of it by the Lindens.

*sigh*

Sounds like Hear no, See no, Speak no.

I guess users, including premium account holders, are evil.

Quick question.
Is this about age verification using credit cards/paypal?
Or is it about people being able to make more alts?

If its about age then I vote.
If its about how many alts so and so has then I'm sure it's none of my business. ;)

I'm guessing its the first? Because I've notice a lot of hyper active "adults" latly.

Just got an e-mail stating that this has finally been acknowledged.

I won't comment on the "Linden notes" that were included.

I will.

Without comment, good or bad, here is what they said,

Hello,

Feature Proposal 1503: "Bring back identity verification for new registering accounts!!!!" has been marked 'acknowledged' by Linden Lab.

This has resulted in the return of any votes you had placed on proposal 1503 to your account.

Here are the Linden notes: We're currently tracking this situation closely and plan to continue to improve features for controlling griefing, including better mute tools that extend mute beyond the avatar to objects and IMs.

Ok, one comment.

At least they acknowledged it.

PUT IT UP AGAIN.

Take those ten votes that were returned and apply them again.

Keep putting up versions of this proposal until they actually do something about this.

--------

My theory: We know that abuse reporting is now pointless. They know that we know that. They say the levees are holding, and we should just keep reporting steadfastly, and they will take action.

Well, sure they will. And then that individual will come right back.

The Lindens may be counting on us realizing the obvious futility of this system. They may realize that we will quite sensibly stop bothering to AR people, and then they won't have to spend as much time on these things as they are now, or, in fact, ever did before.

Ultimately, then, it will actually be less work for them, and we will live with our high ban walls and various other means they give us to isolate ourselves in our compounds from the hordes of unidentified people, including large numbers of griefers and children.

Some world.
