If you're not bothered about zipping along at an insane speed, I've found Argent Stonecutter's Cyberflight to be pretty good.

Cyberflight is the shiznit. And because it's open-source, I can put it in anything I want to fit my outfit. Like... a rocketpack, or a bracelet.

Just a few things about sky builds

Most people build above the flight range for certain reasons
1. For privacy.. yes say it P R I V A C Y
2. To get away from lag most likely if people do this and want people to come to their builds there is useualy I'd say about 100% of the time if not more that there is a TP or some device to transport you to these areas
3. For what ever reason they wish

Also just because its there doesn't give ANYONE the right to claim fair game and enter a sky build unless its on public land in which I havent seen any that fits that discription, thats just like when I leave my house in RL to go to work and some one happends along exploring while I'm not there and goes inside my house just to see what it is like. Thats tresspassing in its purest form and the same should go for SL aswell after all I'm the one paying the land tier not the explorer!!!

It's more like someone browsing through your pictures on Flickr - you're renting space on a publicly accessible server.

Courtesy should be expected of others, but you're not going to get it from everyone.

Anyway, this isn't the place for a discussion of this nature, I'll say no more.

My goodness, I feel a sudden urge to find your skybox and leave artistic prim graffiti. :D

Actually it my understanding that you are not considered tresspassing in RL unless the land is posted, or you are told by the owner to leave. And its not breaking and entering if your doors are unlocked. It is the responsiblilty of the land owner to secure thier premises, in RL and SL.

I asked the question before in this forum regarding trespassing, i.e. the appropriateness of exploring other peoples builds. /120/f3/36534/1.html

The majority concensus was that it was OK and and accepted practice in SL as long as you were courteous and not interupting people during private moments. There are many private builds in the sky, space ships and such, that are intended to be seen by others. See this post for suggestions /120/6c/53207/1.html

Most private builds that are intended just for private pleasure are not that interesting to see and not likely to attract many visitors. I have seen enough pose ball collections and BDSM devices thank you, I really have no interest in seeing yours. :)

Public sky builds

Skyhook Station (Avalon Lagoon, LostFurest dAlliez, at <100,10,520> or thereabouts) is a public general-aviation airstrip. Just don't leave rezzed vehicles around longer than you need them.

When I want to fly, I have a scripted set of wings called "Angel Wings". I'm on another system right now, or I could give you more detail, like who made them. But they were free, and above a certain altitude they give you an additional speed boost. I think they were in the "30 free wings" set at Yadni's, or something like that. I use them mostly to cover distance fast when traveling across a sim, or from sim to sim.

I've flown to at least 700 Meters with those wings. Funny glitch, though. If I use "Page Up" to rise straight up, I still 'hit the ceiling' at 250 M or so. But if I go into mouselook and look up, I can fly forward as high as I wish.

For going up and down to known sky builds, like my own, I just use the sit-on-a-prim method, described earlier. It's faster and delivers me more accurately.

A trick from another thread, for building in the sky. Rez a prim at each corner of your lot, then move those prims to the height that you plan to build. That gives you 'boundry markers' that you can see up there. Then rez a platform on the ground and ride it up, using the platform to stand on and to rez items on as you build.

I don't know, I built up above the 250m limit for the following reasons:

1. A couple of my neighbors set access permissions on their land. I hated bumping into the box when walking around my home.

2. One person erected this enormous bright pink and green structure, which hurt my eyes. I had to push my home past my draw distance (128m) to avoid it.

3. I didn't stop at 200m because there were clouds there and I didn't want my house always in the fog.

Personally, I think there's a bit too much paranoia over privacy in SL. Like someone is going to hold it against you that you have a sexball in your home. In fact I've decided that I'm never setting permissions on my properties. If people want to come in and look at my work, they're more than welcome. If someone makes a nusance of themself, I'll just eject them from the land and put them in a ban list. I don't see the need to ban everybody by default, it just feels unfriendly and maybe even a little rude.
