While the inventory bug is annoying, what got me worse was how bad avatar's and objects looked due to the weakend near object level of detail bug in this release. (already being discussed in some thread hidden away on the bug forum). What this means for the rest of us is that, any objects, be it furniture, be it prim hair, shoes, xcite thingies etc... would all look not what it was ment to look like. IE. They would look blocky for a bit before returning to their natural forms (happens eventually). You can test this out by rezzing a sphere and then quickly zooming in and out of it. The LOD degradation is too harsh for near objects and the smooth sphere would sometimes appear to be something very blocky, at close up. Observe: http://img454.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lodissue8of.jpgI play with all my graphics sliders maxed, so this is just not acceptable. If I wanted graphics like that I'd be playing WoW

This was not originally being discussed in a thread 'hidden away in the bug forum' - it was on Answers but was moved to the bug forum.
Now that more people are noticing it, I'd really like to bring it to the forefront again....

My avatar has been looking TERRIBLE! And I don't have local lighting on or anything. Is this why? coco P.S. The land where I build has been looking all blurry, and last night I noticed that the sand in Azure Islands not only is gray, but STAYS gray! I had to up the settings for objects and trees to max, then long off and back on, in order for it to look anywhere near like sand! Is this why?

Correct Michi, here is the link to Michi's thread in the bug forum with more examples... coco, your issue might be just textures being fetched from the server, they are streamed first as a low quality then gradually better quality, sometimes if the texture is huge it might not display properly due to various network issue. This bug given here is a prim shape issue. Cristiano, the prim hair thing is this bug, the avatar's not showing is object culling bug. It's happening more often now.

Is this the reason I keep seeing people with prim hair that just looks odd, and avatars disappear from view half the time as I move my camera around?

I've... a bit worrisomely, posted again in Answers, here. /139/5b/112783/1.html#post1082560 I'm hoping it doesn't draw reprimand or get shuffled off again ... but I really think it has to be addressed and not buried.

Yes, and forget about it if you're trying anything with prim clothing, or if you like to zoom your camera a lot. This has to be fixed, as SL is suddenly looking like a 75% loaded JPEG file!
Regards,
-Flip

I've noticed that too - some terrain textures just will not come in fully anymore for me, even after clearing my cache. The grass in Mavericks is just a solid green with no shading at all, it looks ridiculous.

So SL is now like AIM only more resource intensive? Do IMs still work?

Well... Still pushing for a fix (or reversal), but looking at Runitai's response in Feature Feedback, this was done to improve 'performance' (I haven't seen any performance gains) - and this may be something we just have to live with from here on in.

I've noticed this but it only seems to last for a moment. After I zoom in on an object or avatar, the detail returns to normal. It can take a few seconds though.

yeah guys all this feedback is good, but can we direct it to the official thread on this? /142/0e/112445/1.htmlInclude more and more and more examples, take screen caps, upload them here, show everyoen what its looking like. Spread the word too, when you hear people talking about the quality, share the thread up there, with them, get them to contribute too. the new system as it actually works from a systematic perspective, is actually *FAR* superior to the old one, the problem is some of the 'constants' or the variables that are set by our sliders, are just not given a wide enough range. if the NEW lod system, was activated, with roughly the same basic detail thresholds we had with the old one, things in SL would be markedly *MARKEDLY* improved. all we want is the ability to REALLY set quality in the slider already tasked with that job. LL needs to understand that while some people do want frame rate at any cost, other people also do want visual quality and are willing to trade off a little bit of speed to get it. Please by all means help improve the new user login experience/speed... but at the same time, people should be really given choices they can use to present the world with the detail and quality they want to see it in.

If you think it's hidden, please ask me personally first. You know I'm always up for that. Those with reduced LOD experiences, please continue to post to this thread: /142/0e/112445/1.htmlinstead of starting other threads. Or, if you accidentally started another on the same topic, just ask me for a merge so I can combine them all into one for easy reading. From: Torley Linden It's very visible to us. If you think it's hidden, please ask me personally first. You know I'm always up for that. Wouldn't it be more efficient to have LL tell its customers what is "very visible" to them? That way, one person at LL could keep a few hundred people informed and spare the "is anybody else seeing this" and thread merges and "yep, this was answered over here". You may say I'm a dreamer...

Update! From: someone Heard back. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED: Level-of-Detail (LOD) has been scaled up to higher settings in response to all the problems that've been reported. Watch for a fix in a future version of Second Life soon; and I know some, including myself, will ask "how soon?" but I don't know for sure yet. When I do know, I'll be announcing it VERY loudly in this very thread. You have my word. CONTEXT: /142/0e/112445/2.html#post1083401/142/0e/112445/2.html#post1083401

From: Introvert Petunia So SL is now like AIM only more resource intensive? Do IMs still work? I've been having the name of a specific member of a group show up on the tab in the IM window where the name of the group should be. So far as I am aware, AIM puts the correct text in labels, buttons, menu items, etc. So it might be more accurate to say that SL is now like AIM, only more resource intensive, and not able to accurately label screen elements.

From: Torley Linden But dreams can come true. How'd you like to see this done? As visibility or transparency or whatever you wish to call it underlies a vast majority of the customer complaints I would expect that this would make Torley's job vastly more rewarding (or less daunting) and would nip many frustrations in the bud. I know that LL has long held a stance of secrecy as many tech firms do lest someone scoop their best ideas. However, to my eye SL holds a niche market (that's not an insult) that few others would venture into - witness the number of credible entrants in the last few years. Perhaps the "closed" model may no longer be appropriate if it ever was. My personal policy has always to be as open as possible with customers and colleagues, people will put up with almost anything so long as they know what to expect. Let the sun shine in and good luck.

This is very good news indeed because even with the detail sliders at max my hair still looks blocky. and i just tried to make an egg shape and omg no mater how close i looked at it or how close i was physically near it it would not look round the edges all looked square.
