Any negative issue we happen to agree with is a just cause and a valid question/complaint. Any negative issue we happen to disagree with is whining. Thus is the way of the forums. Always has been, always will be.

I don't really give a shit how many issues Lewis has disagreed with lately, or how many he's puckered up and kissed some Linden starfish over.. makes no difference to this particular issue. If you have nothing to say about the issue at hand, why are you typing in this thread at all? There are enough opportunities to take a swipe at people we dislike that we aren't forced to when they raise what they obviously feel is a valid issue.

My personal opinion about the issue at hand... I don't like it. I don't like that I have to wade through the stink that was flushed from this forum in order to read my fellow residents' comments on the issues. I would rather Robin made her posts here, where the forum rules and consequences apply, and where we can respond to her comments without novellas of hateful conspiracies to wade through first. Those were flushed for a reason, and they should remain flushed from all official Linden mediums. The stench is rather overwhelming and clouds the message Robin is trying to communicate.

Edited to clarify: I am not suggesting anyone be banned from commenting on Robin's blog. I am suggesting that the official "essential" announcements be here (also), somewhere in the SL official forums, so that residents can comment on them here without having to read the blog and comment there.

As someone who is rarely able to leave the house through illness, SL has done amazing things for me. It is often the only way I can interact with the world, the only way I can keep on doing what I used to be able to do in RL... create, interact, communicate. It is far more than a game to me... whenever someone says 'get a real life', or it's just a game, it just kinda hurts, it's like a slap in the face. I honestly don't know where I'd be without it, and I know I'm not the only one here in this kind of situation. Consequently, I am overwhelmingly positive about SL and problems along the way, amount to nothing in comparison. As far as I'm concerned, the fact that SL allows me to continue being active in life is testament to the wonder of Phillip Linden's vision. Bring on the metaverse!

Thanks for sharing, Fade. This quote outlines exactly why I get somewhat worked up over the "it's only a game" crowd. That commentary is the height of arrogance, and while it may be just a game for quite a few people - those seeking only entertainment and no more - stating it as an end-all, be-all fact is the kind of smugness that really gets ugly. Fade, your post warms my heart!

I often disagree with friends of mine within the forums, but hey, if we all were perfect clones of each other (as some from the "it's a game" crew suggest), I'd be downright bored. LL's intentions here are genuine - and while I think they should probably develop a decent in-world announcements mechanism, and leave forums to being run by residents, this is most likely a step in the right direction.
