Anyone else notice this new 'click through' on the forums list?

What's the point? These are the official forums. This is where things should be announced, this is where things are discussed. Not some third party blog, even if it is written by a Linden.

Why should they have to repost it twice?

Robin's always put good community-related stuff on her blog. Now its just easier to find it.

The point is that if it is official news, it should be here, not adding to the list of places we have to keep up with just to find out whats going on.

We need one centralised SL information system to keep up with everything. Here should be it, being the official site. Other sites should be optional.

Given the forums here don't scale all that well, I don't blame them for moving things like that elsewhere.

And, being a centralized information system, they have a handy dandy link right to Robin's blog now conveniently available right here, not hidden off somewhere on another page. Click on the link, and the next page is the blog...just like if you clicked on a link in the forums and the next page was the thread. What's the difference?

Please, no misinformation. There's enough of that in the world already. If you have questions, asking is appreciated so we can help you better. :)

* Be The Change is not a 3rd-party blog. It's written by Robin herself, and contributed to on occasion by other Lindens like Daniel and Jeska. We recognize it as official.

* We recognize it as official. Just so there's no confusion. ^_^

* Lotta Resis askin' me, "Where's that blog?" Answer? Make it more visible. Which happened.

* Like the name of the blog itself, it's part of more changes to come. In the future, there'll be better integration into the main website, and SL itself. Too many Linden posts were getting lost on the forums. This is essential info WE want YOU to see, EASILY.

* Forums are crap for searching this stuff. Tons o' things get lost, I find myself having to quote and requote many times. What's my basis for saying this? The many, many emails, PMs, IMs I get about it. Proof? My forum posting history. Consequence? I have repetitive strain injury right now--one blessing in disguise is, I realize how vital it is to make the most of what I've got, insofar as limited resources, to serve the good of the community. That includes making it quicker to find Linden info that's looked for.

We can't be clear enough, ever, in our communication. If we can save your time and make your Second Life easier on what LL is doing or wants to do in regards to garner valuable feedback from Residents, thumbs up.

It never ceases to amaze me what Lewis finds to complain about.

I don't. Blogs are not something I desire to waste my time reading. I know they're the "in thing" right now and everyone who's everyone has them.... yet I don't, so that blows that theory out of the water. I just don't see why we need another site that duplicates up the purpose of these forums.

Saving time would mean putting them on the proper forums so there isn't somewhere else to have to trawl through.

So what you're saying is people who don't go there will end up being penalised and not getting the information they need about changes to the game, and will not have the opportunity to have their input on important decisions.

I hate to break it to you, but you're not the one who gets to decide if it's official or not. Once again, you mistake yourself for the centre of the universe.

Stratics is not "the official forums of Second Life", although they are the official forums of a number of other online games, and unofficial forums for many more.

This blog is considered "official".

Big difference.

OK, really...

You click the link and you get taken to Robin's blog. If they posted the exact same text in the forums, you would click the link and get taken to a forum post. Same number of clicks, easier to read format. What the hell's the difference? You would really not click the link and read the same information on a blog just because its a blog? Because you don't like blogs?

Thats nice dear, however that wasn't really what I was pointing out was it?

...neither really address the official-ness, or blog-ness do they? Rather you question the need for any similar site that duplicates the official SL forums on one hand whilst advertising that exact sort of site on the other.

You seem to be at a bit of a dichotomy in your opinion hon.

Not in the slightest.

If we want to get news of SL, the first port of call should be the official forums. Period.

Sure, there are many other SL related forums that people can choose to read, many of which have their own value as the rules are more lax and theres no danger of having action taken against your game account because someone here doesn't like what you post.

I just don't see the value of someones "personal blog" - even if LL are of the impression that such sites have the potential to be taken as official information - when it comes to informing the community of important things. After all... isn't that what the forums are for?

I'm afraid I do see a direct contradiction in first saying no site outside the SL forums which duplicate information are needed and then turning about saying they are needed and advertising for them all along, while in the same breath protesting one which is being used as a SL forum accessible official information source by a Linden Lab executive officer. I find it extremely contradictory.

As to,

... aren't the official SL forums being used for that exact purpose? You click a link to go to the sub-forum Linden Answers, you click a link to go to Robin's Employee Blog (not personal, it's within her capacity as a official of Linden Labs in which she posts there, not posting the newest recipe for curry blugogi or links to her new favour indie rock band), both are accessed with the same level of effort and ease. No different than linking to a sub forum and is just as official whether you are willing to accept it or not.

Attention LL!

THIS is what happens when you try to give us a voice...not Fade^ but all those 1-2 whiners who think they can bitch piss and moan about every flipping thing you do.

Seriously.......you guys have done well by allowing folks to have a say...but it's gotton out of hand...eventually you have to say....um this is NOT a democratic society. This is a business and if YOU...Lewis don't like it........there's the fucking door.

Now that I think about it, you have said that..........and if not let me make it official...

Lewis this is an OFFICIAL Linden response....or it would be if they could.....

Dear Mr. Nerd,
Your most recent request for fairer terms has not fallen on deaf ears, we at Linden Lab strive to make your experience the best we can. While we acknowledge that all is not how you would like it, we would like to point out to you that while this is 'Your World and Your Imagination' you need to understand that we attempt to make EVERYONE'S SL experience better. But we can only do so much, and when someone whines incessantly it drains our resources.....so shut the fuck up! But thank you for writing and as always come again.
Signed.....................*all the Lindens if they could*

I beg to differ, look at his post count...he thrives on this shit. It's what he was born for.

I think what you mean is that I am an active poster, and wish to be a part of the community. After all, "being the change" requires active not passive?

I could just as easily turn round and say your lack of posts over such a long time shows that you aren't an active part of the community. Works both ways.

There are a lot of people here who would say "thankyou" if Philip posted them one of his turds. I prefer to say it as I see it, and if a LL decision sucks I have no hesitation in saying so.

There's a lot about this game I do enjoy - the socialising and the building for two - but some of the decisions made make it harder for me and many thousands of others who are here for non-commercial reasons to realise our dreams. After all, if we didn't have dreams and imagination, and ideas.... why are we here?

ok, let's see, to keep up with official news from LL, we need to watch the forums, the grid status page, a blog (more than one blog?), and maybe one I've missed.

I don't mind them having official points to give us information through. But they should pick a page and stick to it. Playting hide and seek with important data and splitting it betyween so many places just discourages people from paying any attention at all to LL's official information.
