okay lemme summarize:
-the hair splitters are wasting good oxygen about arrows and math symbols.
-the mac user play their snobbish "we do best" ,as usual
-the gray texture hater are complaing, when they dont know what they talk about
-the lessons givers (usually jobless or student) think they know better than those that ARE working in the thing (linden labs)
that's a really nice meeting of forum whiners
could we go back to a less wastefull subject?

The arrows aren't the only things messed up with the inventory: Since 1.6, these things have been annoyances: - avatar name backgrounds--wastes even more space and clutters up the screen! However, thankfully, LL provided an option to remove this by setting "bubble chat" opacity to 0. Unfortunately, it's not clear "bubble chat" opacity applies to avatar name backgrounds. Stupid.
- inventory light grey open folder backgrounds and white outlines--too bright! Is there a colors_base.ini setting for this?
- GUI fading effects (which slows SL's GUI down even MORE!)--lame! This happens on 3D pane tooltips (mouseover popups) but, oddly, not in the 2D GUI (anymore?)
- can't click anywhere on a selected prim/object to move it anymore; always has a selection box come up--annoying!
Make this crap OPTIONAL, LL!

From: Kyrah Abattoir the mac user play their snobbish "we do best" ,as usual I'm a mac user and I prefer + and -, and at least one other Mac user has said the same. I guess "Mac users support the Windows users" or "Mac users not claiming the Mac way is the best" doesn't make as good a sound bite.

To change the white arrows but, unfortunately, not restore +/- functionality, see this post
