These are too wide and clutter up the inventory even more. Why not go back to using simple +/- characters to indicate an open folder (ON the folder, too). Or, better yet, actually SHOW an open folder for an open folder? The less width the open/closed folder indicators take, the more text can be visible in the narrowest width.

I agree, I prefer the +/-.

I agree, I prefer the +/-. I agree. Why they keep adding silly things like this and the 'Editing Appearance" text under names and not focusing on more important things is beyond me... _____________________

On the plus side, there's the plus and minus.
On the minus side, there's the triangles. By the way, for something used to point to a direction, an equilateral or nearly equilateral triangle is not a very good choice of triangles. _____________________

Why? the animate triangle is good and easy to click, it just too bright and alittle too big.
I like the Edit Appearance though. It look nice. _____________________

Also, the animation takes too long when holding something over a folder. This just makes having to wait for the inventory even MORE annoying! Before LL added the springy/mass-inertia simulation (whatever) effect (I think perhaps in SL 1.6 but I can't seem to find the inventory changes in the release notes--I know it was before inventory searching was added), the inventory's been very slow and unresponsive. I'd like to have the old inventory look and feel back, please. I don't want animation, I don't want highlighting, I don't want cute crap--just give me a fast, functional inventory without all the fluff. Make it optional, LL!

Change the folder arrow image via viewerart.ini:
CODE folder_arrow.tga aa7529a4-178c-033f-d830-08130707b1d1It's about the same size as the +/- characters previously, but there's no way, that I can tell, to add another folder arrow image for the "folder open" position, so this will have to do until we can get LL to implement the OPTION of using the new, slower, animated arrows or the older, faster, +/- on/off indicators. |

If "better" to you means "slower", you must enjoy waiting for interfaces and probably have all of WinXP's stupid UI pet tricks (animated windows, fading tooltips, etc) enabled too. <eyeroll>

Not everyone is Unix Shell users, you know. And not everyone need everything to run fastest as it could be. They need some little beautiful interface too.

Another good reason to remove the triangles.

Not everyone is Unix Shell users, you know. And not everyone need everything to run fastest as it could be. They need some little beautiful interface too. No offence Eep, but I am getting really tired of your constant posts about the interface. - You want the game to run like a first person shooter... Got it. ![]() - You like Unix/Dos/text style interfaces... Got it. ![]() - You think SL should be like WinAmp of Linux and let you skin it ... Got it. ![]() Please... just make a proposal (and let it sink into oblivion like everyone else's proposal), and stop going on and on and on about it in such an angry fashion. Personally I would like to see SL move closer towards the "gold standard" of OS-X. Not everyone wants the same things. And before you say "That's why is should be skinnable!"... not everyone wants that either. Again, *personally* I think skinnable interfaces are horrible and actually detract from useability. They work okay if your just talking about a couple of volume controls, but that's about it. That's the point. Not everyone wants what you want (and some of us are tired of hearing about it.) _____________________

I'm getting tired of posting about SL's inept interface.
No, Dianne, I don't want SL (it's not a game, incidentally) to run like an FPS. I simply prefer BOTH 1st- AND 3rd-person views with FULL GUI in each. Active Worlds does it. There's no reason SL can't do it. I prefer FAST interfaces. Windows' GUI can be fast, but all the fluff crap that slows it down obviously needs to be removed. SL can be fast too but, unfortunately, doesn't GIVE the option of removing all of its fluff crap that slows IT down. Yes, I believe SL's interface should be completely customizable/configurable ala Firefox or something. It should at least have OPTIONS for many GUI elements (and it does for some but not enough). If you can't see that GUI customization benefits everyone, you're clueless, Dianne. OS-X is hardly the "gold standard", but a completely customizable interface IS. You can still mindlessly accept whatever a developer spoonfeeds into your gullible, Lemming-like mouth, if you prefer, but *I* would rather be able to configure how I have to look at something day after day to fit MY needs. I don't care if you or anyone else is tired of hearing about it. Mute/ignore me if you want--I don't give a shit. |

I'm locking this thread. All the useful discussion has already happened; all that seems to be left is a flame war. I have submittied it for Linden review.
If you want to talk about Eep's posting habbits please take into private, as per forum guidelines. _____________________

This thread remains closed. As has been mentioned, there are already a couple threads on the same topic, should productive conversation about the "arrows" and "+/-" want to be continued:
/142/24/93888/1.html /108/5d/93517/1.html I'm also going to strongly advise that the SL Forums is no place for belittling or attacking the personal preferences of others. One of the fundamentals of Second Life is tolerance, and that means respecting other people's beliefs, even if you don't agree with them. Insulting someone else's intelligence is a personal attack and absolutely unnecessary. Please review the SL Forums Guidelines and the Community Standards if you are unclear on this. _____________________
