In other words: don't care.

The arrows are easier for me to see, altho my first impression was that they were rather large. They're more consistent with general computer GUI conventions, tho. So, I like the arrows. ^_^

Cool torley, i was just curious about peoples opions about them, and the couple of comments i heard, was that people thought they are to big and didn't understand the change.
They seem a bit out of place to me, but that is probably because i'm used to the + and -.

I am still used to the + and - too. To be fair, Windows XP does use the + and - convention with its tree explorer.

Damn, those are big.

A bit smaller, perhaps, and I'd be impressed. Always better to give the user a bigger area to click, but... damn.

I like the way the current system reflects my positive and negative feelings about the sheer volume of crap in my inventory.

But I'm flexible. The new system of rotating arrows continues the theme of my Mac OS X system, both of which continue to point out the sheer volume of crap I've accumulated.

Oh bother...

I think the important question here is what's a Global Kid's Translation Ring?

I really dislike the white arrows. For some reason they just stand out when I look at the inventory window and attract much more attention then the actuall items that they are pointing at.

It really makes inventory navigation actually harder for me, rather then making it easier.

Looks like i'm going to just start using the Search feature more often to avoid it.

Frankly, I wish that we could choose the icon set involved.

How about something other than a flat gray background. :D
SL has this DOS feel and I hate that.

Actually, Sean, it's a wonder we can't play with the client like an operating system desktop. I wish I could change the client fonts, colors, transparencies that STAY transparent, and inventory window background textures.

I'd like to see the view be it's own window (can be maximized like it is now). I also wish we had a primitive modeler in it's own window that only you can see, so you can get work done even in situations and places in SL where you couldn't otherwise.

The arrows as implemented in 1.9 are not only too big and extremely ugly they are a very poor implementation of a recognisable and well documented UI widget.

"Disclosure" controls are meant to hilite when the mouse is clicked over them and to un-hilite if the mouse is moved away. The disclosure action is only supposed to happen if the user RELEASES the mouse button while the mouse cursor is over the control. The point being to give the user a chance to NOT use the control if it was clicked on accidentally.

Simply to implement the shape of a recognisable control is not enough. This is just another of too many examples of half assed UI implementation in SL as a whole. The triangle isn't even well rendered.

It's not even an improvement to the poor usability of the inventory :(

Kim Anubis and I designed the Global Kids Translation Ring. It allows coded chat between ring users. The ring also translates the speech of talking animals and enchanted objects on Global Kids Island.

No way! I thought it was a secret FIC communicator. :(

Fool! You thought the FIC would disclose the name of their secret communicators? W... They won't even admit to having them! Infact, they don't exist at all, stop looking. >.>;

I never studied HCI but I know whatever it says, SL isn't doing it!

I really wish the UI would get overhauled, I think it gets really overlooked because the current interface "works" and it's hard to sell as a feature, which really sucks because the interface is something you will spend 90% of the time dealing with when you use the program but has only had 0.01% of development time devoted to it. Hasn't Apple managed to wake people up to this yet?

That's funny, I've never seen an arrow like that in my whole life, while i'm pretty sure 99% of computer users can easily recognize the + and - that are present in windows explorer, and were present in windows 3.11 file manager.

It's a Mac thing. Way back to System 7. And I think they got it from David Dunham's Acta outliner, oh back in 1988.

mac os uses them since like 7 or 8 i dont remember, probally before then (looks around for his os 4 disk)

ill save my wiseass comments about macintosh, and UI standards

but it is true ever since the dawn of gui applications + and - have been used, mainly becuase most of the early ones are done in text mode (norton commander for ever!)

do i personally care ... no, but i think they do look alittle goofy due to the fact that they are larger than any other icon in the menu

Well if it's a mac thing then we can hardly call that "standard", can we? :p
Can anyone post some mac screenshots for comparison?
