No that is not the American way of life, it is a selfish way of life. Some may think it is worth defending, but not all of us choose to sacrifice the rights and needs of others to make our own lives more comfortable.

It is the American Dream. Yes it is.

And you wonder why everyone outside our borders hates us.

It's a sad day when we can't feel secure in travelling the world to see all of the wonders it offers because we're 'American'.

Bah. There's no need to leave America. We've got everything we need here. Where I live, there's a mall not 5 miles down the road.

I have no idea why some people feel compelled to leave America to "see the world" when we have everything you could want - and usually within 10 minutes driving distance - AND with parking available. In most other countries, you can't even drive a car.

As Hunter documented - the 'American Dream' is dead. He spent most his life documenting its death spiral before killing himself.

You're right.... and for that matter why would anyone ever want to learn to read when the tv is so entertaining? Why would anyone ever want to try a new exotic food when steak and potatoes are perfectly filling enough? Why would anyone ever want to try anything in life which might require a shred of intellect, interest, self sacrifice or hell even just getting off the dam couch?

Again your statements lead me to wonder how much of what you say here are your true opinions or you are simply roleplaying these extreme points of view.

Then I feel truly sorry for you. (erased the rest, qualifies as personal insult)

I don't know if you've read the Moonflower Manifesto, but it clearly has a higher ideal. Now, whether these IW insurgents are abiding by/for it is another question. But to say there is no higher ideal is poppycock.

I'll reserve judgement until after I get to read it. As of now I can't locate a copy of the MM.

Two different concepts

patriotism: love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it

nationalism: the doctrine that your national culture and interests are superior to any other

You're right, patriotism is not wrong, nationalism is.

Allana well said.

And I have to ask: what kind of patriot (of any country) advocates sending the sons and daughters, parents, of their countrymen to die so they can drive a SUV? Surely you should value your fellow citizens more than that, and have more respect for their sacrifice and service?

Its not a question of right and wrong. Its a question of national security and the American way of life.

Now, as much as I respect my fellow human being, when it comes to maintaining my welfare (or my nation's) or theirs.... well, I'm going to pick mine. Nationalism gets a bad rap these days, but its not wrong to be patriotic. I'm proud to be an American, proud to own an oversized house, and proud to drive around a fairly large SUV that gets 9 miles to the gallon. Like it or not, this is the American way of life and I damn well intend to defend it.

And hell yeah I want to keep it.

I have to admit... it is nice to see someone come right out and say it.

The ones that get me are the oblivious hypocritical types that feel they're doing their part being earth friendly because they drive around in a FOREST GREEN SUV... you know... green is a very eco-friendly color!

Of course... push comes to shove... and the "American Way" of conspicuous consumption makes us our own worst enemy, resources become scarce, gas prices skyrocket. (I swear, the U.S. must be buying oil with L$'s the price at the pump and the L$ are oddly similar!)

When our own needs and desires exceed what can be met... how do we preserve the "American way of life" then? Nothing lasts forever.

OMFG! This is was written by a sociopath and/or psychopath. Reading it, I could only think that this is the same justification a bully uses to beat on another school child or to kick over someone's sandcastle. Civilized society should completely reject this sort of behavior. If they don't like what people are doing here, fine; no problem. Don't play here. To destroy someone else's enjoyment "to teach them a lesson" is wrong.

The title and original post in this thread makes me wonder if Jamie got turned down for a job at Fox News.

Other than that, I am laughing too hard to comment.

.... but if I had the strength to go over the rest of her posts again I could make the same comments..... "Civilized society should completely reject this sort of behavior."

And Fade, true. It's selfishness not patriotism. Patriotism is the convenient excuse. I have to wonder how "patriotic" some people are when it is their own child who is called up to go protect their way of life.

Dropping little Junior off at the army base in the decked out SUV.
Junior: Ok Mom, I'm off to war.
Jamie: Good boy. Bring Mommy back some oil.

Just a note, I do not believe in the Moonflower Manifesto, I'm just saying some insurgents may use it as their basis. Thats all.

The manifesto is one of the funniest things I've read in days. I still refuse to call griefers 'insurgents'.

A griefer is someone that takes baseball bats to mailboxes for fun.

They may be armed, but they're not revolting against authority...
they're revolting against their own boredom and futility, trying to
find something... anything... fun or thrilling for a few minutes.

Insurgents may fight boredom and futility while persuing their rebellion
against their oppressive authorities... but are more likely to die for their
cause than some punk vandal griefer.

You do griefers too much credit by calling them insurgents.

It would be interesting, at some point, to have a troll-free conversation with you Jamie - but I'm willing to bet that is beyond your grasp.

California needs to secede from the union. I'll bet Oregon and Washington will want to come along. Probably Nevada too. I wonder who else?

I had the same problem. The server is checking the referer field your browser is sending. Just copy paste the URL into the browser's location field and go directly there, rather than using a link. That worked for me.

Tell me about it. Think of it... a new world superpower lead by the governator... a fashionable military force without all that "don't ask don't tell" nonsense... it'd be daunting. Sign me up!

Thank you that worked. :)

But I'm sorry, I don't see "insurgents" as Jamie does and I don't see a physchotic bent on destroying the metaverse. I see a very creative writer having some twisted fun in his own head while sitting in the dark in mommy and daddy's basement being the exact "zombie" he describes in his writing. I see someone who probably wreaked some scripted havoc to see if he could and then while suspended wrote this little essay because he had nothing better to do.

"I'm proud to be an American, proud to own an oversized house, and proud to drive around a fairly large SUV that gets 9 miles to the gallon. Like it or not, this is the American way of life and I damn well intend to defend it."

Speaking as someone who was born in America and lives in America, this is why I refuse to refer to myself as "an American" and is why I sometimes view Americans (many, not all) with a certain amount of disgust and loathing.

At times like this, I reflect on the fact that oil appears to have finally peaked and just think, "Good. Let it come."

Its been a relatively quiet 4 days. We've all been able to enjoy SL without any major insurgency interruptions. As you may recall, insurgents successfully brought the grid down twice last weekend. Hopefully, LL has been busy rooting out the insurgency and developing contingency plans to maintain order should another attack occur.

Any predictions on when/where/how the next insurgency attack will take place?

My guess is that they will try to strike again over the weekend. From an insurgent's point of view, its probably the best time to strike because LL is probably the least staffed on the weekend. Sunday seems especially vulnerable.

I'm not sure what the next attack will be though. Most likely some lame self-replicating, pushing attack.

What say you, the community?

I would say that unless LL gets this completly under control, their game will fail as a result. Who wants to pay to be griefed. Perhaps some employees should be working weekends? Just a thought.
