everything else pretty much doesn't work and is restricted by the server.

This is part of libsecondlife, which has been allowed to develop by the Lindens.

Also, it is claimed that the Lindens were asked about it, and don't mind the release.

Personally, I'm quite happy to be able to support the development of libsecondlife by buying this tool.

It supposedly utilizes libsecondlife and the author claims you're supporting the project by buying it, but am actually quite curious if this release and the association was approved by Eddy Stryker (who seems to be main person behind the project) ... or if the profits go anywhere but to the author, for that matter.

If you want to support development of the library, the option to send people L$ has been there as part of standard client for a while ... no need to spend it on shady tools -.o

It's approved Joannah. I would actually like to see more of the stuff in God Mode turned on for all users, like the ability to dump your avatar's appearance to an xml file. Loading appearance from an xml file would be the next logical step.

No one is really talking about the macro mode (recording options), I think this is one of the best parts. Imagine creating an alt, putting it in knight's armor, and then recording a macro to pace back and forth along a castle wall.

I see ^^ the way it was announced seemed a bit strange, so wasn't sure about it.

To be honest am more concerned with the idea of making 40 alts, logging them all in and thus completely locking people out of their sims at will. Which seems like perfectly plausible way to grief using just one machine, given you don't need the 3d client overhead to maintain connection that doesn't even idle you out with addition of god mode... :/

well this "god" mode to me looks like a little client hack that allow to pop up a linden only ui page , but popping the UI doesn't give you the acls to use the said functions anyway, so its really moot

i guess the few functions that work and are not client dependant will be patched out anyway

but it doesn't surprise me SLexchange don't do a thing about it, they always proved to be quite "lax".

Map-Stalking: doesn't work, if they're not in your buddy list you can't warp to their spot. This is apparently blocked via the server.

It does work, if anyone wants me to prove it, IM me and I can tell them their location. :D

Macros would be useful for some situations, but what I'd really like to see is scriptable av movements. Instead of taking over controls, you can activate the real controls. (You can do quite a lot with animations already of course.) If you can record macros I don't see why that's not possible.

Paparazzi and peeping toms everywhere, REJOICE! 200m ban lines? I scoff at thee! There shall be bomb rezzing from a SIM AND A HALF AWAY! Next step, reduce the number of bans allow by island estate owners to 5!

Ok, I managed to grab one of these for testing and here's what I've found:

Scanned it with 3 different Anti-Viruses and Trojan scanners: clean

I'm sure that *you* realize this, but just for the record.. no commercial anti-virus/trojan scanner is going to let you know if this piece of software silently makes payments on your behalf, bugs your conversations, etc.

After looking at the libsecondlife stuff, it appears like a start at a library to speak the client-side of the protocol that the SecondLife client itself speaks. What this means is that any security precautions that are part of the client itself, may or may not be included in any piece of software that uses libsecondlife. So if, for instance, the "Your are about to pay Joe Schmo 500L, are you sure you want to do this?" is entirely client-side, then there's the potential for someone to write a libsecondlife program that does something useful, but also silently transmits one or two Lindens from your account. Of course, this would show up on your transaction history, if you ever look at it.

This MAY OR MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE depending on what extra security the Lindens have built into financial transactions, but the POINT is that until such things are hashed out, I would be wary of running executables outside of the SL client that access your SL account. One would expect that in a system such as this where you're tranisitioning from a closed client to some open-source versions, there will be exploits uncovered that will have to be closed server-side. This is not a bad thing, however... those exploits were always there for the most clever, determined, well-funded, and ill-minded. Now they'll be exposed and, hopefully, closed.

They should give us all unconstrained camera, since it's limited by avatar position anyway (i.e. you can't just walk your camera halfway across the grid without moving your av too), so that everyone is on a level playing field. They should also allow anyone to see the top scripts on a parcel and in the simulator, so that we can tell who is wasting the most execution resources.

You all don't know what you're talking about.

It's up up down down left right left right select start.

Good things never change, see?

you forgot the B A after the second right :D

oh, and select is only for 2-player mode.

I was worried about this but apart from the map stalking it seems fairly unexciting.

The whole making profit off a reverse engineered client part is very strange, as the last time anyone did this anyone who used it got banned, although that one had an exploit that let you steal scripts.

It seems the unique setup of some people's computers causes a problem with SL + the add-on during login. If you make sure SL is definitely installed in C:\Program Files\SecondLife\, then try running the add-on after you are already logged in, and teleport somewhere to activate the features. You can close the add-on after the menu shows up.

From what I hear from two people who work on it, libsecondlife in and of itself will be open source. Probable applications the devs are looking at include controlling NPC avatars and a telnet-like mini client that would allow a text-only (or minimal still pictures) connection into SL.

Will people find ways to abuse it? Probably. But so far it's been going ahead with LL's blessing.

This is exactly why the Lindens should NOT allow reverse engineering of SecondLife's viewer.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

It crashes the second I turn it on in game.

For the record, yes, I'm an Alt for an older account, and people should be very concerned about this God Mode. Here are the facts that I have determined so far:

1: The camera panning works past draw distance, but not past the constraints of the Mini-map, which covers about 4 sims. Selecting objects (if they are visible) at these distances also works.

2: Within the God Mode "Object" sub-menu "Delete" works on any object in SL. The objects are permanently deleted from thier location in SL. They don't get returned to the lost objects folder, or show up in the trash folder of anyones inventory. This includes locked objects, so nothing is really safe any more until LL patches this with another update. Possible proof of this exploit being abused might be here.

3: Mapping anyone that is logged in works without a hitch.

4: It is also possible to copy objects that would otherwise not be copyable. This is a tricky one because not all instances work. Possible reasons may be the permissions settings on multiple linked prims.

5: Transfer owner permissions does not work with objects. Neither does transfer of ownership with objects.

I have stayed away from messing with the land and terrain exploits mainly because I don't want to mess up other peoples stuff. Apparently these features, in God Mode (if they work), affect entire Sims.

No, these are NOT true. I have the god mode, these features do nothing. Please do not try to spread panic unless you have the item. If you still insist that these work, IM me and we can do testing. Everyone I know, including me, that has this is not able to do anything in the objects sub-menu. Feel free to IM me.

I am all for the grid coming offline until this is corrected. There is absolutely NO reason something like this should be available. No one but myself, or the Lindens (if in violation of the TOS), should be able to delete or copy items which I am supposed to own the intellectual property rights to.

I am beyond angry with this.
