Has anyone tried it? Seems kind of expensive to find out it doesn't work or is a scam.

Apparently if you manage to kill Philip you get to own the company. It's in his contract. He's really tough, you'll need to power up a lot. You don't get much loot from killing other Lindens though.

Well, except Torley. But she has a 90% chance of summoning 1d8+1 (noncombatant) residents to come to her aid with buffs and cure spells. She can do this every 1d6 rounds.

I wouldn't recommend trying to take on Torley. =)

There is no god. Philip Linden died like the rest of us. Lindens are not gods but humans, a cute bunny and cat.

Where do I turn for salvation now?

There is no god mode.

The giant hand currently grabbing you and dropping you on the factory to start production?

That's, um, lag.

Yes, it's real. Spoke to 3 lindens on it last night, there are copies floating around without buying it, and yes, it's real.

So, now, not only is everyone anonymous, anyone can be a linden, too.

It's real, but most of the functions are server-side and cannot be accessed by normal people. (I tried it myself.)

The only ones people might find eyebrow-raising are the untethered camera (no limit on range, like an estate manager), silent snapshots (already had those if you used a non-SL method of screenshots), and... the ability to map-stalk anyone.

That's the one that annoys me.

I would presume then that the 'stalk anyone' function also allows you to teleport to anyone?

One other note though: This certainly may be a keylogger or password grabber. Even if it works. Any sort of 'popularized' runtime item like this would be a great vehicle for such malware.

I'm not an alt, really... But if I was, I'd get a bunch of my friends together and abuse the hell out of this, perhaps map-stalking Lindens themselves if you can map them, and then switching alts if they ban you from the land they're on or the game itself. It's the nail that sticks out that gets hammered down, right?

This seems to pretty blatently violate the ToS
06-24-2006 09:11
I noticed that MC Seattle is selling the apparently new clientside god mode exploit/hack on slexchange. This isn't just "out there," it's been commercialized, too. I'd post a link, but all you need to do is go to slexchange.com and click on the 'marketplace' link-- it's the number one item shown on the default page.

Let's look at the SL Terms of Service...

Section 4.1:
"...you agree not to ... (v) take any actions or upload, post, e-mail or otherwise transmit Content that contains ... computer programming routines that are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information...
(viii) interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of networks connected to the Service;

Section 4.2:
You agree to use SecondLife as provided, without unauthorized software or other means of access or use. You will not make unauthorized works from or conduct unauthorized distribution of the Linden Software.
... "You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any software programs, utilities, applications, emulators o, or tools derived from or created for the Service..."

"...you may not charge any third party for ... access to and/or use the [sic] Service, and you may not modify, adapt, reverse engineer..., decompile,... or create any derivative works of the Linden Software or Srvice, or otherwise use the Linden Software except as expressly provided in this Agreement."

Okay, Linden Lab. Do your part, and throw the books at MC Seattle. He's brazenly violated several sections of the ToS, which you apply fairly to all users, past and present. A tool to do this came up before, and you acted swiftly, banning folks associated it. Because some users may have been trying the hack tools just to verify they were real, I'd suggest clemency for them, though definitely not the folks commercially profiting from ToS-violating tools.

Where does SL Exchange fit in the scheme of things as a distributor of said piece of software?

This is part of libsecondlife, which has been allowed to develop by the Lindens.

Also, it is claimed that the Lindens were asked about it, and don't mind the release.

Personally, I'm quite happy to be able to support the development of libsecondlife by buying this tool.

Yeah, the irony here is that I defended libsecondlife to friends of mine as a great learning tool, a chance to develop some extra things SL had been missing, like bots. Boy am I eating my words now; they were apprently correct to take a more pragmatic view-- opening the SL grid technology has clearly led to folks with no sense of social responsibility running amok.

I'd rather not turn this into a debate about libsecondlife's potential to be a good and positive contribution to the community, but allowing user stalking (see location of non-friends on map) as well as voyeurism (floating camera), beyond the fact that it's fundamentally unfair to give some users more client access rights than others, is hardly some positive ideal being realized. It's an exploit tool, no better in nature than a rootkit. It's also an unambiguous violation of the terms of service. The libsecondlife developers have made a huge mistake by being associated with this, and done great harm to their cause.

I was looking at it on slexchange the other day, and it seemed quite horrifying to me.

I'm so confounded by it that I have to put my hands over my ears and say, "LALALALALA."

Ok, I managed to grab one of these for testing and here's what I've found:

Scanned it with 3 different Anti-Viruses and Trojan scanners: clean

Map-Stalking: doesn't work, if they're not in your buddy list you can't warp to their spot. This is apparently blocked via the server.

Grid-wide Estate Camera: works, but is still limited by your draw distance just like normal Estate Camera requiring a huge draw distance and uber setup to handle the high draw distance (192 - 512 depending how far you're trying to look).

God Tools: non-functional, sat there and tried it nothing works unless you're the estate owner. Estate managers can check Top Scripts in this menu, thats it.

Obect sub-menu: only affects objects you own

everything else pretty much doesn't work and is restricted by the server.
